really dig the rawness and emotional sound of BM, but not really a fan of the tryhard edginess of regular BM. DSBM is really nice because I feel like it's one of the most authentic genres of music out there.
I would also include melodic/death doom as one of the most authentic genres of metal. As for black metal, I think it depends, I think crafts “terror propaganda” has tones of genuine hatred rather then being “Satan Satan!!” But as for myself I am a writer of a fetal state project by the name of “Dysthema” has some DSBM influences but it sure feels cathartic to have whatever lingers from your past to be released in a physical form whether that be trauma/abuse/Heartbreak/dereliction, etc you get the point but I only half hearted agree with the edginess, you could usually tell from the ones who are portraying that facade.
I think the occasional happy moment is an essential ingredient to well-done DSBM. the flicker of hope one latches on to before getting inevitably washed away into oblivion. also... what's the deal with that telecaster!
Slow, cold and emotional... the essence of dsbm and you nailed it! Very cool. Good gear is essential for a nice clean part, unfortunatelly I can't efford a 1000 € guitar plus amps an effects... So my dsbm soloproject will be in a very darkthrone kind of vibe.
Marshall DSL will get you where you need no matter what you’re doing for less than $800 US. You don’t need a super nice guitar, just some decent pickups in it. Reverb is essential for this type of sound, but Delay and Chorus are totally optional. I recommend the Wampler Ethereal, it’s both a Delay and Reverb for $200 US.
Good morning Simon, congratulations on your Black Metal totorials, I love this genre for its fascinating tactical technique and melodic, rhythmic and lyrical virtuosity, my question is which band is the introductory DSBM of this tutorial and if you could subtitle your tutorials to Spanish , Thank you. Greetings from La Paz-Bolivia.
I can't remember if I already ask for this song, but if you can make a lesson on The Great Old Ones - Antartica... THANKS ! (maybe too many guitars...)
I'm bald because...well, my hair doesn't grow any more. In terms of the Sowilo rune, I just tell people to do their own research rather than jump to incorrect conclusions. www.ifate.com/rune-meanings/what-does-the-sowilo-rune-mean.html
Do many people complain about it? Over here, if I looked like you I'd be labelled a neo-nazi. I'm actually impressed that you can wear the rune on your arm so proudly. I just want to be able to wear my heritage with pride instead of having ignorant people attack me.
@@ItsVikVaughn Nobody says anything in person. I get people on the internet tell me I'm a Nazi without knowing a single thing about me. I just ignore them. Might I suggest a guitar tutorial regarding DSBM? It's Wolf and Weapon, by Advent Sorrow. I think you'd enjoy the amount of excitement in the atmosphere of that song!!
I did make a sound that kinda fits in this genre you have to put your ring finger on the third string, then you first finger on the the second string, then put your middle finger on the first string. Can’t wait for all the bedroom DSBM albums coming out in the next few months thanks to this lockdown. My own included... hahaha
You can check out mine if you please but where can i hear yours?
Been working on dsbm, and atmospheric ambient black metal during the whole lock down
Lol, I just recorded my first song ever yesterday.
I will hopefully make some bedroom dsbm sometime soon. If I remember to, I will come back and comment. could always use an open ear to give opinions
the drummer must be really happy when the band decides to make dsbm
And the bassist even more
What about...funeral doom?
@@honttorum1203 in funeral doom are happy all members but bass player xd
Until it’s Ellende and you actually have to be good at drums
@@EverlastingLife_Band in atmospheric BM you need to be really good, but im talking about DSBM
Feel like you can't really make the best possible DSBM without being utterly depressed
Yes
that's why it's called dsbm.
You could go the Silencer route and just cut yourself while doing vocals lol

shit, that was a really good song ! Really simple stuff harmony wise but it's beautifully done
I misread the title at first...I read BDSM Guitar Lesson and was like ok..cool..let's check it out..lol!

that would be better than dsbm which is really just pathetic.

Idk man, I like my DSBM (music in general) as hopeless and miserable as possible. Like Trist, Xasthur, and the lot of Carissa’s Wierd.
I agree, there has to be a reason to listen to it, a lesson learned
Badass Simon!!! Another great one by the one and only!!!
Awesome video. Not only great sounding. Also very informative
Sounds super amazing man... like it a lot
Another great lesson!!! Thanks, Simon!
Thank you so much for uploading this!

Thank you teacher, were it not for your lessons these days of quarantine would never pass...
Neat! Has a very strong "Imperium Dekadenz" vibe
That's awesome bro. You should make a whole song out of that.
It's 2 am here in middle Europe and I'll have to wait to try it
middle europe u mean Poland?

Major thirds are actually very common in DSBM.
Major third dyads are common, chords with major thirds aren't.
great video!!

When lesson on NSBM?
To me Bethlehem out of Germany were the first DSBM, though they called themselves dark metal
Early Mayhem and Strid take that, Tears of a Tortured Skull is so ahead of it’s time its crazy.
First riffs of first song reminds me of Alice in Chains with extreme vocals
Is this your "coming out"? Nice, I like that fact that the scene opened up for people like you.
To bad there isn’t a xasthur lesson
Scott is too unique to be mimicked
