Literally makes me smile to see another generation hearing Led Zeppelin with the same amazement I had so many years ago. As I get older and older its tougher and tougher to find common bonds that make me feel some type of connection to a younger generation. I try my damndest to keep up with whats considered cool or trendy or popular but its really cool to see younger people go back and appreciate the things I grew up liking. Great group. Great song. Great reaction.

The problem with your account & explanation about the drum reverb, is it actually belongs to another (earlier) song - 'When the Levee Breaks', which was recorded in the stairwell at a place called Hedley Grange - all of which produced more reverb than Kashmir. I'm not sure that there has ever been a similar statement made surrounding the recording of Kashmir.

Two great bands with totally different objectives.
Pink Floyd wanted to take you on a journey into outer space and then safely return you to planet earth.

Robert Plant and Jimmy Page have both publicly acknowledged Kashmir as their crowning achievement and the song they are most proud of. It took them 3 years to get the song just the way they wanted it. The song was started in 1972 and completed in 1975. John Bonham used the heaviest drumsticks he could find for the pronounced effect on percussion. He said it was the most exhausting song to do on drums of any Zeppelin song but also the most enjoyable. John Paul Jones keyboard part gives off the middle to far east tinge to the song. No doubt a masterpiece.

This is done in 3/4 time for the whole band EXCEPT the drummer, who plays 4/4 time. The time signatures match up every 12th beat. That is what makes this great, aside from incredible musicians!

John Bonham, the greatest rock drummer ever! These drums were recorded in the staircase of a castle with only three microphones, which is why they sound so huge with the natural reverb, along with a tape delay. What a band! Don't get me started. Fun to watch people react the first time!

The most technical part about his drums and what makes this one stand out, is he is playing 3/3 measures while the rest is in 4/4. Only 1 in 12 beats hits the "strong" band ones and it's all the more mesmerizing. He is, without any doubt, the best ever.

@@applesaus395 OK - Most of the times this thing comes up is concerning When the Levee Break and not Kashmir. So anyway, why does this happen? It's because Jimmy Page reminisced about it on the "It might get Loud" documentary when he went back to Hedley Grange and he was in said stairwell. Since that, a lot of theories have spun out out concerning the "natural" reverb of the drums - but the reverb wasn't natural. Don't take it from me as I'm not an musician or sound engineer and have no idea about drumming, rather you can hear it from the actual people who set up the microphones in this great video from Rick Beato where he features the engineers: ruclips.net/video/XZYDDX1DHDU/видео.html . Rick also did another great video that explains the John Boham sound, great watch for any Led Zep fan. You see, the three mic setup was a genuine thing used by Led Zeps' band - check out the vid especially 09:40, ruclips.net/video/KjSgXZHBkhg/видео.html, but while they did use the three mics and they did use Hedley grange, it's not what gave the echo as he explains in the first vid. Anyway, hope this helps, not trolling, just wanted to share some great details :)

No, because Zeppelin has a STRICT policy of guarding their songs on YT, or any other forum from illegally recording them. They even make sure Hollywood pays them handsomely if they do use a loan of their songs (Thor) and they don’t readily give them up for soundtracks. Cadillac had to pay them millions just for a 15 second background snippet. So sorry

What a great reaction. And you so picked up on the arrangement factor of their music. Now they got you!!! Now you have to go down the Led Zeppelin rabbit hole. . . .THIS SONG WAS RECORDED IN 1974!!!! . Led Zeppelin was together from 1968 to 1980. When their drummer, John Bonham died in 1980, they broke up. They are the GOAT!! Each member possibly the best on their instrument. Way before their time and influenced so many artists that followed. They explored all types of music - rock, blues, folk, funk, soul, reggae. Their studio recordings are one experience - you can hear their talent both playing and in production. Their live performances are a total different animal - you can hear their talent still but you can SEE their performance qualities and they always do amazing jams live. They arranged their music specifically so they could jam in concert. I always say to listen to the studio version and watch a live performance, if possible, to get the full effect of LZ. PLEASE PLEASE REACT to Since I've Been Loving You live at Madison Square Garden from 1973 - it will take you to another place Here's the link ruclips.net/video/_ZiN_NqT-Us/видео.html ALSO for Kashmir, the surviving members got together for a reunion concert in 2007 (and for the last time probably) - with Bonham's son on drums. 16000 seats were available for the one night concert - there were 20 million requests for those tickets. That's Led Zeppelin. THE CONCERT WAS FABULOUS - here's the link to that performance of Kashmir - 33 years after the one you just listened to and still tight

Mr Genius, you made the comment about talent, techniques of old school vs today's music. Is this why I see so many younger people reacting to the music I grew up with? I truly enjoy watching these reactions. And in watching these it makes me appreciate so much more what I took for granted in my youth.

This song is from 1975 and it still sounds fresh . Besides all those amazing songs, the way this album was recorded makes it totally unique. Zeppelin on a good sound system is something every rock music lover should experience .
I also have to say that it's really cool to see young people appreciate this band . Even if you think you don't like classic rock , you probably haven't heard anything like Led Zeppelin. They had good songs on every album and each album was totally different than the previous one. They were so versatile that you're bound to hear something you like if you listen to all their material.

Yes, if you like this you really have to try Dazed And Confused -- a spooky blues in 3/4 time, with some truly iconic special-effects guitar sounds in the middle section. In these little rock bands, everybody has got to be working to carry the song well, and these guys are all standouts individually - back in the day when we were all stoned and listening with full attention to every note, and the musicians knew it and gave us everything they could :)

Everyone loves Stairway to Heaven (including me) and most people think of Stairway when you say Led Zeppelin. For Zep fans "their Stairway" is Kashmir. I have too many Zep songs as favorites to name them all as they are my favorite band. I have seen Plant in concert 12 times and while I'm just a few years too young to see them in concert I had the pleasure of seeing Plant and Page live in Atlanta '95 for the No Quarter tour.

    D. Mont The Genius, watcching your reaction reminds me of my first time hearing Kashmir. I bought the album the day it was released in the US. When I got home after work I had to play it immediately. My girlfriend was making supper, I put it on, turned it up and starting doing some cleaning.
When this tune came up, I turned it up a notch and was bopping like you, and then was dancing all around the living room and into the kitchen, grabbed my girl and we danced like two butterflies on a slight summer breeze. It was great.
