As a visual artist, I find so much value in this channel because I'm a fan of music and entertainment. Also, listening to conversations about branding for musicians helps across different extensions of creativity.
In most cases I would take the promo. However, there are some circumstances where an artist may need to take the 100k. If the artist is near homeless, 50k could cover rent in a decent spot for 2 years, and they would use the other 50 k for promotions. However if housing is secure, I would take the promo.
"If you're a rapper working a regular job, it's over for you" Yeah if you rap about cliche street life and brand yourself as a thug or whatever, I don't think it matters if you're an artist and talk about other things and if you produce / are a musician too .
If I get $100k im giving that to Wendy day lol or create some type of informational product with different price points to build an asset to have plenty $100k's
I feel like most people just look at me as a producer and recording engineer for their favorite local upcoming artist with major placements so it has been a struggle getting the STL audience to respect me as a rapper even tho I see myself as more talented then most of them its like when I write songs for artist those songs get hella views likes and engagement but when I make a song I don't get that much I guess cause they fit the rapper image mold more I gotta really figure out what I gotta do brand wise to separate the two and get more listeners and engagement as a artist.
Start singing and experimenting with different genres. Get as far away from that "rapper" mode and attract different types of fans and people who really enjoy HIGH FUNCTIONING music and will truly support you. Rap fans are the most fickle fans in all of entertainment.
@@jasminedtucker Thank you Family, thats makes a-lot of sense I guess im glad ima Multi-Genre musician so this should be super easy for me! #EachoneTeachOne music appreciated!
This might be the most conflicting episode I’ve ever watched of ya’ll. On the one hand I hear the perspective of how B Simone sharing details which clearly came from an educational and innocent stand point, and some how it effected people to think “oh she got it, she don’t need my $10” but at the same time if her brand is talking to the people as “close friends” essentially it’s like a small village she created and the genuine people in this village would have no problem supporting. Peoole assume Beyoncé has millions, and some I’m sure don’t purchase because they have that attitude, but there’s plenty of people ready and willing to spend $1,000 a ticket just to see her. My conflict is, if the people support you, they should just support however they can, it shouldn’t really matter if you have a 9-5 job and somehow that’s career ending or if you make $600k on a “close friends” subscription. If people wanna see you win, why can’t it be just that? Also: free unlimited promo is way more lucrative if you already put the work in. That’s worth more than $100k that you’d have to payback with interest. If you’re in a position for free promo you continue to do whatever hustle your doing currently to feed your family or lifestyle for that moment and allow the promo to really boost you in a whole different bracket of artistry and keep it all!
I respect these guys but it is really bothering me that they and others keep using the term "brand." I get the terminology but I'm sorry, I'm a human being. I play in a band not a brand.
Those two are not the same. You are a human whether you like it or not, but you also have a brand whether you like it or not. If anything, simply being a "human being" homogenizes yourself and doesn't acknowledge you as an individual. A brand is merely your reputation and the collective of your unique traits as it translates to others. Brands are not confined to companies and commodities. You can either be intentional about your message or leave the interpretation of you, your message and what you represent up to others. However, if you leave it up to others, then you should not be befuddled if people do not connect with you art deeply enough care.

Thank you! Glad you enjoy the channel!
This is good advice because we do share too much of extra stuff, everything but the music.

Thank you for the insight
I spend most of the money I make on marketing 😭
Organic and content marketing is forever where it's at. If you're paying to get seen and there's no retention, you're pissin in the wind.
At least all the music money

This was needed.
Great convo
Great episode- I’d also take the 3 years of free promo
How you successfully make money aka techniques and paradigms is more valuable than how much you make. That’s not ever bodies business.
Khory just start a go fund me and I’ll donate 7$ to get you a hand held mic
Lol the way it broke last episode and they didn't acknowledge it 😂
Lmao chill out
Great music DONT need much promo it’ll promo itself
Sounds like she’s need to pivot to teaching others how to get it.
