I am not ashamed of what I haven't done and I am so damned tired of people looking for reasons to take offense at EVERYONE and EVERYTHING.
My white father picked cotten starting at 3 years old. He almost died from having had a log roll out of the fire and left huge scars on his legs. He fell out of wagon as a crawling baby, the wagon ran over his head. He was bleeding out of both ears and his nose. But, the doctor charged $3 a visit and my grandparents didn't have it, so again, he wasn't taken to the doctor.
He was attacked by a ram and had several ribs broken and his sternum cracked. No doctor. Whooping cough, no doctor just a few drops of coal oil sprinkled over a teaspoon of sugar. For his rickets, only having the crop come in before they starved saved him.
My father hated picking cotton, but was grateful that there was something that they could do to put food on the table.
Please, people, Americans, quit being used! Get over your white guilt, it shouldn't exist. Get over your constant state of victimhood, it's crippling you and keeping you down.
Stop listening to people who spread negativity, to news organizations who refuse to simply report the news: you do not need the news sanitized and censored in such a way to try to make you come to a conclusion that you should be able to reach on your own if simply told the truth.
Weak, negative, angry, resentful, pathetic and finger pointing people will only make you more dividing and your country a weaker place.
Be strong, stay calm, be the change not the screaming angry voices being pushed from behind by billionaires trying to push their agendas by brainwashing the masses

Austin is one of the most liberal cities in the USA. It is NOT typical Texas. When you go to Austin you see iconic symbols EVERYWHERE integrated in their art. Longhorns, guitars, the big lone star, spurs, cowboy hats, sombreros, hot peppers, and cotton happens to be the number one cash crop in Texas. So, yes, it will be used by Austinites to represent Texas in an artistic way. Very common in Austin. I am certain People magazine did not really look into this. Did the people arranging specifically put cotton in the room of these two? Have they never used it before?

Charley Pride recounted in his biography the story about his first concert. The record label didn't put out any photos of Pride so fans didn't know he was black. When he came on stage, Pride said there was stunned silence. He made a joke about getting a tan or something to that effect, the audience laughed, and the rest is history. Charley Pride was one of the biggest stars in country music in the 60s and 70s. He won CMA Entertainer of the Year; I think he won twice. Pride didn't incur overt racism during his career way back then. As with now, if you put out good music, the people regardless of race will come to the concerts and buy the music if they like your type of music. I don't believe one thing this duo says. I do believe they were paid by Woke, Inc. to get some sh*^ started in country music. How old is this woman? Her grandfather was a sharecropper and he bought a plantation? If she is 40 or even 50, I doubt her grandfather was a sharecropper. Girl, please. Sit your behind down. You are saying this mess because someone paid you to do so or you are hoping to cash in by playing the victim card - as so many are cashing in on such today. Sidenote: Just what kind of country music are these two singing? Something tells me they, like Beyonce', jumped on the country music bandwagon because it is trendy and sales of pop and R&B are sluggish. I haven't heard them but I am sure their music is crap (like Beyonce's album) - bad pop like a lot of country music has become in the 21st century.

    My father in law
    (now deceased)
was a son of a sharecropper and share cropped at a very young age in Peach Orchard, Arkansas.
One of THE MOST truly Christian men I have ever known.
God's grace and that hard work seemed to have help shape him into a stellar human being.
Two bad that those two country "stars" haven't experienced such hard work, they've certainly been offered God's free gift of Grace.
You can't share what you refuse to accept in the first place.

I'm Chicano, and my family and I were invited by my buddy's family to dinner last week, right, so we show up, play a few games, and when we sat down ro eat, they served tacos. Can you believe it? They didn't stop there. They threw another blatant racist attack and called it Taco Tuesday. Wtf?! Who does that? I think they made that term up just to offend us. Regardless, my wife and I felt humiliated, so we each angrily made a plate, and four more plates for the kids, and took them home, never to return.

When a woman came to the foyer and seen the cotton in a vase with flowers. She refused to enter the house.

Jason you are making me laugh to point of tears....OMG there's a cotton plant in my room!!! I'm in my 70's and my grandparents rode in a wagon from one field to another to pick cotton in the 30's to earn enough to live. Living with my grandparents was wonderful times. I picked fields of peas, peanuts and cotton to earn money for trips to town. In Texas cotton plants are decorations now. Oh, and I am white. It's sad to hang onto hurts and look for opportunities to relive the hurt. Let it go folks, don't cling to the past. You keep looking back and you're going to trip over the first rock on the path.

    My great grandparents were sharecroppers
They had 11 kids the oldest two, one of which was my Papa, had to quit school at 8yrs old to pick cotton for other farms. He and his brother helped support the family. Papa raised 5 kids and 2 grandchildren owned his own brick home and retired nicely from the city of Dallas. Poor kids picked cotton in Texas.
