    Punctuation is very important in English. Let me show you why:
    I want to cook dad.
    I want to cook, dad.
    Using or not using a comma in the examples above have changed the meaning of the sentences! Right or wrong use of punctuation can lead to misunderstandings. Therefore, it is very important to know how to use punctuation marks in English.
    In this lesson, we are going to learn the correct way of using punctuation marks, including period, colon, semicolon, comma, question mark, exclamation mark and quotation mark.

    I still don't get the meaning of this sentence, I mean the idea ;
    "I like cooking, my family and my pet."
    Wouldn't it be more correct to say ? ;
    "I like cooking, FOR my family and my pet.".
    If I'm wrong, please explain it to me Maddy, thanks in advance for the answer and the video lesson.

    This video explains the proper use of English punctuation marks, including commas, periods, colons, and semicolons, and how they can affect the meaning of a sentence.
    Key moments:
    00:40 Punctuation plays a crucial role in changing the meaning of sentences. Using punctuation correctly can alter the interpretation of a sentence, emphasizing the importance of proper punctuation rules in writing.
    -The importance of using punctuation to convey the intended meaning of a sentence. Correct punctuation can clarify and enhance the message being communicated.
    -Different punctuation marks such as periods, question marks, and exclamation marks have specific roles in ending sentences and indicating the beginning of new sentences.
    -The varied uses of the period (full stop) in abbreviations, academic degrees, time notations, and initials in names showcase the versatility of this punctuation mark in written language.
    05:06 Using punctuation like colon, semicolon, and comma correctly can enhance clarity and meaning in writing. Understanding when to use each punctuation mark is crucial for effective communication and conveying relationships between ideas.
    -The importance of using punctuation marks like colon, semicolon, and comma for clarity and meaning in writing. Knowing when to use each punctuation mark enhances communication effectiveness.
    -Differentiating between independent sentences that require a full stop or semicolon and adverbial clauses that enhance the meaning of a sentence by providing additional information.
    -Exploring the role of adverbial clauses in providing context and details to a sentence, such as adverbs of place, time, manner, opinion, and degree, to enrich the reader's understanding.
    10:13 Adverbial clauses are dependent clauses that need to be paired with a basic sentence to convey meaning. They can describe time, place, manner, reason, or purpose within a sentence.
    -The importance of using commas with adverbial clauses based on their placement in a sentence. Comma usage varies if the adverbial clause is before, after, or in the middle of the main sentence.
    -The distinction between defining and non-defining relative clauses, with a focus on non-defining relative clauses that provide additional information about a noun in a sentence.
    15:18 Understanding the use of commas in English grammar is crucial. Commas are used before and after non-defining relative clauses, with conjunctions like Fanboys, and at the beginning of sentences with Wabbits.
    -Non-defining relative clauses require commas before and after. This helps provide additional information that is not essential to the main sentence.
    -Commas are necessary with Fanboys conjunctions like 'for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so' in long sentences. They help separate clauses connected by these conjunctions.
    -Wabbits conjunctions ('when, where, while, after, before, because, if, though, since') can start sentences and require a comma when used at the beginning. This aids in clarity and proper punctuation.
