5 Easy Backgrounds to add to Your Art, Drawings and Sketchbook: A Few Ideas and Tips

- Today I'm talking about 5 easy art backgrounds and sharing a few ideas and tips. These are some fun backgrounds that I often use in my drawings and sketchbook. Adding a quick background is a great way to complete even the simplest doodle and make your sketchbook pages feel cohesive, plus these ideas are a few more ways to fill up your sketchbook:)

Hope you all find this video helpful - backgrounds (even if they are simple like these) are one of my favourite ways to add a little something extra to my sketchbook doodles:) Which of the pages did you like best?
Windy Iris Art my favorite was the flowers with the circle background. :)
I had a hard time coming up with my favourite. I think it would be variations of yours, like the circles, but I'd do spheres (like you described as the gradient from dark to light, in the centre, or in the case of a sphere, sometimes somewhat off centre) or stars, 3D or regular.
And I love the flowers, I'd probably theme the background around the character I had drawn. And if their "theme" wasn't apparent, I'd make up enough of a storyline in my head, and give the character likes and dislikes ^-^.

@paranoiaprincess The sphere's sound like a great idea and themeing the jumble pattern would be a excellent way of incorporating the story-line and character together. I love that:)

This is super helpful. I always feel like I have to make these really detailed backgrounds for my characters, but I don't want them to get lost in it. Now I can start adding simple backgrounds to my characters! Thank you so much for sharing these!
Very glad you found the video helpful:) I defiantly agree with you there, I find that simpler backgrounds work best with my character drawings - otherwise as you say they just get lost:)
The cluster of flowers is by far the best. You have a very striking and attractive style of drawing!

One of my favourite ways of creating a background is to mask off the focal image, and stamp an image in a pattern.
Hard to describe without showing.

Awesome! I need more, or a Pinterest or Instagram page of these or something . As a traditional artist, I sometimes don't have the patience for colouring the whole background with coloured pencils

watercolour blob is the quickest. And you don't waste that much of a marker for big background spaces.
Watercolor backgrounds are always cool looking - however this sketchbook does not handle water so that was not an option for me here. I like the look of marker backgrounds and I never worry about using up the inks but if you do then you could make a background with any other medium: pencils, inks, paints etc. The varieties are endless😀

Hey, love the video, the techniques are really helpful! Also, I don't mean to be criticising or anything, but I noticed all your characters have very pointy chins! It might help to look at Pinterest or something for references, as face shapes really vary and it can help create more diverse characters! (or just ignore me, your choice) Great video :)
