- On Wednesday, June 19th in the early morning, I headed west to catch POVA's Sandpoint Turn. POVA was started on October 1st, 1979 after acquiring Milwaukee Road trackage from Newport to Metaline Falls. The railroad was originally managed by Kyle Railways. However, in 1984 management of the railroad was fully turned over to the Port Of Pend Oreille who owned the line. On March 3, 1998, the Newport to Dover segment of the railroad entered into a lease agreement with BNSF. POVA also acquired trackage rights over 3 miles of Union Pacific trackage into Sandpoint.

Was That 2nd Locomotive On Lease
I would assume you're speaking of the black and yellow unit. The black and yellow unit is WRIX 9917 (Ex PRLX 9917) it recently received a rebuild from Western Rail inc. From what I understand it is headed for a 5 year lease and is currently in testing before being handed over to the a lessee. I have seen this a couple of other times on POVA.
Most ask, is there a set schedule or what, I was originally planning on spending the weekend in Helena but I might have to work Friday so if I do I’m going to take a day trip to Spokane and Sandpoint tomorrow.
@@signaltodeparture POVA operates on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, tri weekly operation. Hope that helps.
