He was in the right, calling someone that word is obviously wrong but context is everything and the teacher said it in part of a discussion about use of the very word.

If you really think your argument is worth fighting about, go pick that fight with someone who’s saying something relevant to the conversation. I made no comment on the state of the slur, just how the student reacted. I’m not even black, and I don’t even listen to rap, so I’m not even sure where you were going with that.

No. Respect is not something you give to fearful people who bow to societal pressure. Respect is for people who do their job properly. If this kid was raised to think the number 4 is racist, and he cries when the math teacher says four, the kid is wrong. When the kid says "I'm black so I have this right, and you are white so you don't have this right" the teacher that tells him that is racist deserves respect.

the entire reason most black people are here is from their family being dragged here in chains, beaten, raped, forced at gun point to work while spat on, and within a big portion the worlds lifetime population, segregated into groups and building with media still being made comparing them to animals. my grandmother talked on how she remembers sharing a seat with a black person on the bus was seen as evil. these are people who for a lot of them their entire ancestral lineage and possible current location, income, and treatment is still not as great, such as black women being 3x more likely to die in the hospital from pregnancy negligence. the word hes pressed on was a key one people white people used in enslavement, torture, and when assaulting or treating them like their lower human beings. the entire thing is that blowing it off is not reading the room and not having empathy. its a word saturated in so much blood death and hatred from white people and still occurs now, such as people going to well known racist areas and simply holding a black lives matter sign and getting yelled threats and just fucked up racist shit. they reclaimed that word after hundreds of years of people seeing them as object to be destroyed, who am i to look at the history and their ancestors and family and possibly my ancestors and their current issues and evils they gotta deal with head on possibly daily and just be like "im gonna say this anyways". its weird and shitty. i get him being mad about it, especially from someone whos supposed to be like a parental figure too, its horrible

From other comments I deducted that this was a history lesson that branched into talking about Huckleberry Finn and some other books. Not sure why that conversation took place, if the teacher said it by accident he should had apologized. That being said, it seem he was trying to point out that if we are all the same and equal, a word that has a negative history shouldn't be said by no one. The kid probably said the word 4-5 times, and cursed a lot, but only gets triggered when the teacher said it. Again the teacher is wrong and if was by accident he shouldn't have pushed that sensitive topic in school.

You can't deny that it's a positive word in some communities. Since it's a slang word, every community can give it it's own definition. In some communities it's synonymous to a friend. If you don't want people to use it then stop being racist and stop considering it acceptable for some set of people to say it. The teacher from a strictly technical perspective is correct but might not be so from a ethical perspective because many communities still have a negative definition to it. If a black man can say the N-word; and he holds a double standard that states a white man can't say the word on account of his skin color; he clearly doesn't have any idea on how logic works.
