Two lessons learned here: 1. Don’t take yourself so seriously (I struggle with that too, truth be told); and 2. Whatever it is that you want to do, have fun with it or don’t do it! Nice pep talk, doc!
You’re such an inspiration my man! I’m a premed in undergrad with a $H!tty GPA (3.0) and I have about 1 1/2 years left , I heard your story and it truly showed me there’s still hope ! Keep up the great content 😁
As a Brit about to start my career in med school, I applaud your bold attitude. You are the closest American I've seen to having a British personality. I take pride that we are SO sarcastic and never take anything too seriously. X
I was literally talking to my friend about this when I saw the notification for this video come up 😂😂 Love you and your vids Dr. Buck, can’t wait to see more!
You, Sir, are HILARIOUS! Your surgical subspecialties video was SPOT ON! Guessed them all by your description! Very funny! I also really liked your medical specialty by personality videos. Great stuff!
The more I think about it the more I realize surgery couples the medicine component with the medicine part. Surgery is basically both the medicine and hands on part bc surgeons prescribe meds similar to an internal medicine doc but also puts hands on to solve it. That is truly the only part about surgery that I like
Dr Buck you need to lower the price on the study course i was about to buy the 300 a year one and now it’s 1000 dollars! I get that it’s a good course but that’s insane!

After that random question about your first name...if I could have a do-over in life, I definitely would have been a surgeon. I think transplant surgery would be very rewarding, or working in a level one trauma hospital. I would imagine with the latter, you would have to be extremely stoic because of the odds of losing more patients. If you are the surgeon, your patient is bleeding internally, and you don't see them within the "golden hour" , you may not be able to save them. I would need a minute before telling their family. What was your most exciting case, so far, where you jumped in and saved someone's life?
Do you know of any ways to be able to shadow surgeons as a high school senior or college freshman? I'm really interested in shadowing but I have absolutely no idea of how to get the opportunity especially since there's no actual hospital in my town.
Hey man! I am a 3rd year med student and i still have not decided which area of medicine i should go into... I dont want to be a superhero, i ride motorcycles and i love speed, i have sense of humor and i love all kinds of jokes even tho my jokes suck most of the time lol, im an average student, i cant concentrate while reading for more than 20 mins but i liked topography and doing dissections, i just found it relaxing. Any tips if i should become some kind of surgeon or not? PS I love sleeping!
Yo Dr. Buck. You said video games help you become a better surgeon. May I ask what type of genre specifically that really help you in your opinion? If not a genre specifically, then what is it in video games that help you become better?
Eyo buck, I just finished my country's high school equivalent, graduated top student, so I wanna know is there a way I can go to an American college then med school, or should I finish med school where it's more financially feasible like Germany? Btw man, you're an inspiration, and the reason I want to pursue surgery, love your videos, keep it up!
hey bro can i ask where are you doing your residency now and how long did it take for u to get into and what is the process you went thru?? could u be kind enough to reply

@@drbuckparker All I hear about is the negatives within the industry (mostly due to insurance/mal practice) and many people both in and out of the industry say it is not worth being a doctor anymore
Is it harder for a female to become an orthopedic surgeon? I’m very interested in the skeletal system and have been since I was in kindergarten. I have never seen or heard of a female orthopedic surgeon so that’s why I ask. And thank you for the study guide!
Paige Kirkland You should watch some of Antonio Webb’s RUclips videos. He is an orthopedic surgeon and he has a series where he will interview anyone who work in the medical profession. One of the people he interviews is a female sports medicine orthopedic surgeon.
You rarely see women as high-powered surgeons because they’re not insane enough to do 20 years of schooling to get there. Women have equal opportunity. But that doesn’t mean you’ll get equal outcomes.
Whos JBPeterson? You should definitely go after surgery if it resonates with you. I'm just not sure one needs another woman (or whoever) to show them that they can do it. Go after it! Blaze that trail yourself!!
How compatible is a surgical residency/life with having a family? I’ve been told it’s not really and it’s made me lean more towards a medical field rather than a surgical one although I really enjoyed surgery in Med school. HELP 😭
Charlotte Joanne Welch Ill tell you what I've been told by numerous doctors when I asked that. "It is possible, I have a wife/husband (and sometimes they say kids)... the relationship just takes commitment on both sides" Hope this helps somehow ;)
Can we please get another one of those “medical specialty stereotype-ish” videos? Those are hilarious, and please include anesthesia if you can lol

As a board certified anesthesiologist. We do have it made.
There's quite a bit of physiology in anesthesiology, which makes it pretty challenging at times. What's your relationship with the surgical staff?
