    "Money doesn't make you happy" is the biggest lie anyone has ever told you. I can promise you that I am substantially happier now than I was when I was paycheck to paycheck. I am not rich, but I am without debt and with a safety fund and a good amount of investment. Nothing feels better than knowing that you boss can piss you off, and you can quit on a dime. Or, that you can go on vacation if you want and not go underwater with debt. Money does not = happiness, but money DOES give you the ability to be free. And freedom = happiness.
    This comment is not meant to brag, I am simply speaking as a person who was conditioned by a poor family that "money doesn't make you happy"

I have a pilot's license and can't enjoy my hobby because of rising cost of living and avgas prices going to the moon. Working on trying to change that though and Mark is a great help, wouldn't know where to start without him. They say money doesn't make you happy but, money=time, freedom and fuel in the planes tanks= the joy of flight, so it does in indirect ways.

      What's a mobile bar business?

    • @ggrocketleague9098
      @ggrocketleague9098 2 года назад +7

      It's a business with drinks bars, and they are portable (mobile) so you can bring them to places to make money. Two main ways are selling drinks (usually need an alcohol license and permission at the palce you want to sell) or renting the actual bars themselves e.g. for someome's party (maybe in their garden at home, or someone's wedding). There will be more variation beyond this but that is the general idea.
      To start a business like this you need to buy or build some mobile bars (portable bars), pay/do for some basic marketing like website, business cards, leaflets, and start trying to make sales (call potential customers/businesses who might want a bar) I hope that helps.

We have lots of money in our IRAs and 401ks, but since we aren't 59.5 years old, we can't draw most of that money out without paying the 10% penalty. I don't want to give the dang govt my money for drawing it out. What a rip off the gov does to us. Smh.

    If the house prices now is 10 times more than 40 years ago, then the $1 million we get from index fund 40 years from now is worth $100,000 now. That's just enough for an average family to live for 2 years or less. We're screwed 😢

    Not sure I agree with not buying a house. Within the last 2 years of my financial journey, I have profited £35k from moving from a basic 2 bed house, to a all singing and dancing detached 3 bed. Meanwhile my diverse index fund is -£5k. Sure living costs are now higher, but I'm 10x happier and can focus on investing. Also, we now have a spare room to sublet for £600/month. Paying rent or a leasehold is a bigger social trap than mortgage debt

    I have to disagree that people only have 4 years. I mean, these big market swings generally happen every 8-10 years. The only reason why this one is so dramatic is because fiscal policy pushed the last one out to the start of the pandemic, and then the pandemic money printing pushed it until now, so we have an extra 4 years to make up for in this crash compared to a normal one.
    And to really cash in on it, I would say that people have closer to 2-3 years to really get in on it. Beyond that it starts making more and more sense to simply save up assets for the next bubble pop, and then jump in super cash heavy.
    But most of the audience here is pretty young and will have 3-5 more market cycles to jump in on. If you aren't ready for this cycle, you have about 7.5 years to get in a good position to jump on the next one!

    So if we put 200$ in S&P 500 index funds, within 45 years that would be a million. Buuut, taking the same info regarding the house prices from 1940 which was 3000$ and today, which is 375000$. That is a 120x increase in price. So within the next 45 years that same house could end up costing around 15-20 million. That million dollars you get out of the index fund would will still get you very little in the future.

    Your home CAN be an asset depending on the circumstance. If you purchase a duplex and live in one / rent one. Your home is an asset. If your home sits on a substantial plot of land, you can lease your land to someone. If your home has a dock, you can rent the dock. If you have extra bedrooms, you can Air BnB them. Your home CAN be an asset

    If you dont buy a home you either need to rent or live with mum and dad....
    .
    But at current interst rates not worth paying it off, better to invest that money.
    I paid mine off early though because interest was at 17.5% and stocks etc were struggling returning negatives and quite difficult to invest in anyway.
    Bought a second house and rented it out for 10 years, was a hastle and sold it but nearly doubled my money doing that, though if I'd invested that money in the sp500 if have made more ...

    I will be 35 this year. I largely lost my 20s to invest due to university/living abroad etc. Great life experience though, but financially mediocore.
    Since working in my first professional job at 27 I managed to increase my net worth from 40k€ (early Investments..) to roughly 500k€.
    It takes/took a Lot of resilience, consistency and Patience when investing. And luck ;)
    Besides stocks & ETFs, I invested in Crypto and rental properties. Additionally, I hold some investments in Cars & Watches.

    I see gold as the only real metal you should be interested in for protecting money. Because out here in my country the prices for the last several years have jumped like at least 30%, meanwhile silver was jumping and falling around because its price also depends on the state of the economy, because it's used in the industries.

    A home may not be an “investment”, but a lot of people have used it as one of those “ladders” to get a big jump start.
    Every dollar I put into my previous house over 3 years added up to ~$60k, and the value of the house increased by ~$120k when I had to sell to move.

    • @JB-hy8gl
      @JB-hy8gl 2 года назад

      Yes that did not make sense

    • @chrismason7272
      @chrismason7272 2 года назад +1

      @@JB-hy8gl It makes perfect sense, when you buy a house you might make £50,000 on it over 5 years from the final sale but that £50,000 is a lot less when you consider the amount you spent on the house in those 5 years. If you put that money into an index fund instead, it will still rise in value over those same 5 years but you don't have to spend any further money on it either, the index fund will be paying you dividends too.
      What Mark is basically saying is other real estate is an investment as it gives you income through rent, your own home does not.

    • @TurgayBirand
      @TurgayBirand 2 года назад

      “Have used it” is right, it was a thing of the past. But with the ridiculous prices of today, I think it makes little sense to live in the house you own. The opportunity cost is simply too big now.
