We have used that Stihl MS200t with 16 inch bar to take down some really big trees. Normally we go to a Husqvarna 346xp with 20 inch bar for cutting the main stem in 4-8 foot sections, sometimes with rigging and zip lines depending on the landing zone.
We are not professional arborist, but have taken down some very large trees safely. One was a 110 ft double-stem giant Poplar Tree on a slope between houses that had to be rigged and zip-lined. We had an estimate from a tree service for $4000 using a crane. His technique might not be perfect, but has worked for 10 years and not one accident or injury.
David amazes me every time I work with him. Wish I could be of more help, but just don't have the stength or energy he has. This tree was a challenge for several reasons. First it was rotting at the top, which is always a dangerous situation. We tried to avoid shocking the tree as little as possible to avoid branches falling on David from above. Second, the top of the tree had several branches almost vertically above him when cutting, which was very scary. Third, we had to drop it up hill to avoid hitting the street or driveway, which would have caused major damage to the concrete curb and driveway. Just glad everything worked out as planned and I was able to document the event.
Not horrible but everyone can learn and improve. I think what a lot of people are trying to say is that this work is dangerous and there were a few mistakes that with a little knowledge of certain cutting/ climbing techniques you would be a lot safer. Hey man good job on removal but keep on learning. We all can learn. Thanks for the vidwo
Just a tip bud, when you're snap cutting like that always unclip your saw, especially if it's not a breakaway lanyard. Those logs can get pinched and will rip your saw out of your hand, which will either throw you from the tree or just smash your whole body against the tree with hundreds, and sometimes thousands of pounds of force. Otherwise, send it.
Er no he's not doing what 'every arborist would do'..He's obviously not that experienced, the saw is blunt, he's not standing in the right positions and he's cutting all wrong.
Yeah I hope he's a better climber by now...seemed really green. His under cuts never lined up with his top cuts. Lol . I do this for a living. He did alright but dosent seem like he has much experience
Alright he got the right spirit now learn how to cut of branches whit a wedge and a hinge it whil save ure life Ure dam lucky u lived this long if u work like this
Dude this guys Gunna hurt himself or get someone else’s hurt if he keeps working like that. Absolutely no notch or back cuts, one handing the saw on every cut, and what the hell was that last cut? That huge piece easily could have rolled back on him and killed him. Also that saw is too dull and too small for a lot of that work. Hope this guys still safe as I type this but I need to learn the proper way to do it or not do it at all! This is the most dangerous job in North America so you can’t be ducking around doing this as a hobby or a fly by night guys which this guy seems to be.
wow no face cut be for a back cut.dull chain and sounds like dirty air filter or needs carb adjusted that is an ms200t.saw should never sound like it falling out of the power band like that.look up muffler mod and do it the torq after is amazing but take a file to the chain first then blow out the air filter and do mod.climber needs to learn to face cut omg.rigging ropes are nice to lol.
what a joke. defiantly self taught. very poor technique and dull chainsaw. I believe you are skating pin thin ice working with this fella. the way he leans in while he's cutting. all it takes is one off his spikes to slip and he'll cut himself or worse his line and fall out the tree. if he's nite licensed and insured I'd re-think hiring him again. out he get injured on you property, he could sue you.
Buddy, you need to file that chain.
...maybe a bigger saw.

Yeah but the first thing we learn is keep your chain sharp lol
I only have a T193 with a 16" bar. It whips through branches twice as fast as this one. Of course, I sharpen after every use.
