Finally gave this game a chance last night, and as a souls player man was I having a hard time understanding why I couldn't parry mini bosses. Legit got stuck at the first one for an embarrassing amount of time. Thank you for really explaining in detail im so excited to go home tonight and use what I learned..... or lose my sh**. Cheers Cowboy!
how is it so far??? Once you have master this game combat and learned all skill and shit and play again new game with everything saved. you will destory everything
The hardest thing I have trouble with in Sekiro is having unlimited stamina. I know sounds, weird, but having it in sooooo many other games, and then coming to this is just...weird. Like after blocking for a while, or dodging, or attacking, I instinctively back off to try to regen stamina....and I'm like wait I don't have stamina, then I die cause I let my guard down
Im new to your channel. Currently loving the game and hating some boss fights at the same time. Your content reflects high level of professionalism and the depth of knowledge you show is incredible. Keep up the good work!
I learned the aggressive tip earlier today. But the trick is to know which enemies to be aggressive on. The common swordsman you can be aggressive on and be done with them in seconds. For the bosses you have to be alot more methodical
I love that this video is still applicable in'24; I'd started Sekiro a while back and it just wasn't clicking. Gonna have to give it another go tonight to try these ideas. Thank you!
tip for players struggling to deflect: u can use setups, there are 2 reliable ways to set up for a deflect: 1: R1 spam untill ur enemy deflects you, then they will launch a counteratack and for most bosses this will always be the same counteratack so the timing will always be the same. so u can manipulate their moveset by keeping them pressured. usefull for if you dont want them to use their strongest moves. setup 2: for strong atacks with a large windup and a fast slice: block once while they wind up, then time your second block for a deflect, this way you can cover some of the windup time (the usefull part about this is that you dont have to count the seconds in your head but u can use ur block animation as counting time.) this one is really usefull for bosses like the headless ape and Isshin.
I 100% agree with getting in the ninja mindset. I tried a few different playstyles and it wasnt until i started essentially actung like a rat that it clicked. I was flowing through the battlefield like water, picking off enemies here and there and going “gotcha!” When id catch one guy in a trap then scamper off to loop back around and find my next victim. Embrace the shadows. Dont fear the enemy: make them fear you
Really loving the double ichi strike. I use it to jump forwards towards the enemy and start it in mid air. As the range isn’t huge jumping towards the enemy really keeps it a lot quicker especially with the larger bosses.
I recently got this game on my birthday. Yes I have played other from soft games before( dark souls 1,2 and 3). I was having some trouble with the combat because I was doing the dark souls combat style. This video help me a lot with understanding the combat better and I like how you go into details. Thank you man been sub to you since your ds3 100% walkthrough.
"You're a Shinobi, you're a ninja." You are correct! That's why you should go for deathblows. You want to be aggressive because if you were to fight a trained Samurai they would have better posture/stance then you. So by staying aggressive you would break the form/balance of a samurai for a single lethal stab (deathblow). You never need to fight for honor because a Shinobi doesn't fight honorably.
cowboy thank u for all ur hard devoted work u put into making content. Sekiro is trully a masterpiece from "from software" u make the experience 100 times better
I hope From Software makes a new improved Armored Core game at some point. As good as those games were, I feel like the developers have grown as game designers and could improve upon the old formula now.
Loved the comment at the end about playing the game like a Ninja! If you werent meant to fly around the map using the rope then it wouldnt be in the game. Nothing to me was more satisfying in Sekiro than flying from point to point with the rope getting behind and enemy and back stabbing them. Oh so much fun.
I love how you said stay aggressive. Even early on, the game explains “breaking enemy posture by overwhelming your opponent”. Very accurate and realistic.
Great video Cowboy. I played until Ashina Outskirts very early on and instantly came to mind that passive play gets you nowhere. That first mini boss wiped the floor with me 5 times and then i tried the aggressive approach... much better. It is finding the perfect balance between deflecting and attacking
it's really true ... I was way too cautious with the Shinobi Hunter and he killed me quite a lot as a result. At some point I got kinda pissed off and just rushed in and pelted his ass, throwing in a Mikiri whenever the opportunity arose. Fucker was dead within like 15 seconds ...
the bosses were so easy for me to understand how to kill but minibosses kicked my ass every time. this really helped now I do most of them first try by just being more aggressive. just keep hitting them until they die is how i live my life now
High monk in Temple Art's is super good against bosses. Very underrated. You can deal tons of posture damage just by using this art alone as it just keeps on the pressure and forces bosses to deflect. I beat isshin just with this alone, no mortal draw or nothing. Just keep hitting and let the art do like a 10 attack combo with akos spiritfall and you're golden 👌
This is a great guide and you've really taken the time to demystify Sekiro's combat, especially for Souls players. Ineviably though, if you aren't good at deflecting attacks you're not going to get far in this game. That's the bitter truth that can make enjoying the experience difficult. Unlike Dark Souls or Bloodborne, there's really just one ideal way to play Sekiro with little wiggle room. I think that's the wall for me.
2:00 this third combat type was perfect. I was struggling on a early boss because I was focusing constantly on only deflecting but just managing to incorporate attacks in I beat him first try
so I just bought sekiro after beating bloodborne (I’m late to the party lol) anyways I’ve been watching tons of guide videos to help me out but no one does it like this guy…..quick, to the point and very, very helpful……thank you cowboy
isn't the point of the temple arts kicks to counter perilous swipes? it does massive posture damage. none of those attacks do much vitality damage but they do a butt ton of posture damage compared to everything else, except some of the skills that cost spirit emblems.
Dude I remember watching your videos back when HotS first came out. I just got Sekiro today on special, and searched some beginner tips and a familiar name popped up. Still, your guides are just to the point, no BS and as always, super helpful. Thank you man! Could listen to your voice all day lol x
Watching you parry these purple guys is blowing my mind right now. There's something about this game that I'm not grasping and I'm finding it incredible difficult. So far I've only beaten Lady Butterfly in the first memory and I'm at the Blazing Bull which feels like a fairly simple fight. It's like a rhythm I need to fall into but, I'm just not getting it and as a result my character feels VERY unresponsive at times.
Cowboy! I never got a chance to tell you how much you helped my out with you videos...a huge thanks!! I beat Sekiro a while ago, twice! I stopped playing when I got to the end of the third playthrough. I unlocked ALL of the special moves, including "One Mind' that you get from the Shura ending. Fantastic game! I would say that the Senpou Leaping Kicks from the Temple Arts tree is the Mikiri counter of sweep attacks. It smashes posture and you can immediately follow-up on it with two spinning kicks that won't be interrupted. Get it, you won't regret it.

With deflection, I get mixed results between a button tap and a press and hold. I can't quite find the sweet spot. Do you tap to deflect or do you like hold and pulse? I know holding guard reduces posture build up and it seems like you're supposed to flex on and off while guarding to deflect but I can't quite get the response I'm expecting from either method.

@@poomhcg544 If you get ALL minibosses you get max vitality.
That makes 2 of us lol.. can't get past him.
The hardest thing I have trouble with in Sekiro is having unlimited stamina. I know sounds, weird, but having it in sooooo many other games, and then coming to this is just...weird. Like after blocking for a while, or dodging, or attacking, I instinctively back off to try to regen stamina....and I'm like wait I don't have stamina, then I die cause I let my guard down
I believe that's the beauty of it
I was justing thinking this
You have stamina
But just in real life
I thought it just wasn’t showing my stamina and it was tripping me out cause I was doing the same thing lol
Imagine being a trained shinobi and being able to sprint for only a few meters
These types of videos are part of why I subbed. Quality content, thank you.
Exactly he never disappoints
Im new to your channel. Currently loving the game and hating some boss fights at the same time. Your content reflects high level of professionalism and the depth of knowledge you show is incredible. Keep up the good work!
Kristinn Hjorleifsson i think your surname is harder than the game, no offense: D
@@diaznuts5947 your name is funny 😂
"What ninja walks into a room and is like....I'M HERE TO KILL YOU ALL?" love this...
LMAO
Well.. he is... just in a slippery way.
Thank you!
Been struggling with Sekiro, your tips have been a big help, sub earned.
tip for players struggling to deflect: u can use setups, there are 2 reliable ways to set up for a deflect: 1: R1 spam untill ur enemy deflects you, then they will launch a counteratack and for most bosses this will always be the same counteratack so the timing will always be the same. so u can manipulate their moveset by keeping them pressured. usefull for if you dont want them to use their strongest moves. setup 2: for strong atacks with a large windup and a fast slice: block once while they wind up, then time your second block for a deflect, this way you can cover some of the windup time (the usefull part about this is that you dont have to count the seconds in your head but u can use ur block animation as counting time.) this one is really usefull for bosses like the headless ape and Isshin.
The dedication of this guy... oh boi !!! Great vid CB. Thank you
Love your no-bullshit commentary. It makes you my favorite youtuber for walkthroughs. Thanks :)
"You're a Shinobi, you're a ninja."
You are correct!
Ikr all the hate is just salty dark souls players
I hope From Software makes a new improved Armored Core game at some point. As good as those games were, I feel like the developers have grown as game designers and could improve upon the old formula now.
Loved the comment at the end about playing the game like a Ninja! If you werent meant to fly around the map using the rope then it wouldnt be in the game. Nothing to me was more satisfying in Sekiro than flying from point to point with the rope getting behind and enemy and back stabbing them. Oh so much fun.
"Almost just like playing an instrument it starts to flow a whole hell of a lot better."
Me: "Aw, fuck."
I've been playing really defensive until I faced Owl - Father. I then proceeded to learn how to be aggressive to fight Papa Isshin
I just beat Isshin today. Was so satisfying.
Smashed that like button because you deserve it, man! Obvious how much time and work you put into your content. Respect.
@@rogthepirate4593 frick ya 🤌🏽
the bosses were so easy for me to understand how to kill but minibosses kicked my ass every time. this really helped now I do most of them first try by just being more aggressive. just keep hitting them until they die is how i live my life now
High monk in Temple Art's is super good against bosses.
How do you know when to attck
As hard as the fighting is in this game the overall mechanics are very forgiving compared to previous From Software titles. Love it so far.
honestly, sekiro have lot game of the year potential for me. is fun, rewarding, and the ambientation is awesome
kaffaj well it is good predict
Lol ambientation is that a word?
so I just bought sekiro after beating bloodborne (I’m late to the party lol) anyways I’ve been watching tons of guide videos to help me out but no one does it like this guy…..quick, to the point and very, very helpful……thank you cowboy
Just beat Lord Genichiro! I don't know why I had such a hard time but goddamn beating him is SO satisfying 😁
great video i like the way you emphasized that you really have to get into that ninja mindset.
isn't the point of the temple arts kicks to counter perilous swipes? it does massive posture damage. none of those attacks do much vitality damage but they do a butt ton of posture damage compared to everything else, except some of the skills that cost spirit emblems.
This guy is so helpful. What a legend. Got me all the way through Bloodborne too
Dude I remember watching your videos back when HotS first came out.
It's like a rhythm I need to fall into but, I'm just not getting it and as a result my character feels VERY unresponsive at times.
honestly you can really just spam deflect and you will be fine
The key timing with your block button
Honestly the game just does that. I'm holding the block button but im not blocking shit. Even when i parry attacks it's not working

Thanks!! I feel ready to jump straight on to Sekiro (last tip was the most valuable for me)
Omg dude you said everything I would have recommended and your right your a shinobi I love running then picking em off especially the big guys
I know this is old, but I still feel like I should be paying for it. You have such high quality content. Never change cowboy.
I really appreciate that you took the time you needed to release this guide. Really looking forward to you walkthrough.
One of my favorite games of all time. My first from software game and I got the platinum I loved it so much.
"Boom! Its that easy" :-D Nothing about this game sounds easy :-D
God even after reaching Genichiro , i still find this guide usefull , well done sir ♡
It was given the honor of Game of the Year, so I hope FromSoftware makes a second one. Until then, I'll anticipate "Ghost of Tsushima" which comes out next week. :)
after my 3rd attempt of playing, the game has finally clicked. It is so incredibly satisfying breezing through enemies that used to give me so much trouble in my first few attempts. loving this game
I am about ready to start my first play through. I love this guide. Thank you!
I’ve been watching you since Nioh 1 and 2. And I’m so glad that I checked out this video. You’re one of the best streamers out there and I appreciate everything you do.
Welp, as a musician myself, I loved how you explained in a sense of rhythm and beats. This is my first souls related game that I've played and I absolutely love a challenge but could not grasp the fighting very well. Once again, you putting it in a way I can relate with rhythm and beats has helped a whole lot. Thank you. Subscribed
I entirely attribute my skill in this game to Rockband and none of it to Souls.
@@FightinCowboy I like that a lot. I'll try to incorporate that mind set, as well. Thanks again for the video and especially thank you to replying to my comment. Lol still having some terrible but getting better, I feel.
Hi, I've bought the game and been struggling a little bit, been watching guides to improve and found out that this one is the best of them all, explained nicely and with accuracy, excellent topics and opinions with visual support, nothing but congrats to u and this guide 👏👏
Me coming from BloodBorne feeling prepared….. oh how I was wrong
I just started this game after 300 hours of Elden ring (my first souls game) and this is so helpful! The combat is so fun
The other souls games are fun too. Might wana check them out at some point.
Bigpapa 😍
15:48 That's what I'm telling my friend but he just doesn't listen! In this game, he is a shinobi with a heart of a suicide bomber :(
Just found this game now. With my pc with visual mods and wow. Literally a stunning game.
Thanx so much frnd i was jst installing this game now i feel like its going to be way more fun then it is already!!
Cowboy I been following your videos for about two years now. You were there with me for DS3, then DS:R, and lastly DS:Scholar. Thanks to you, I am a proud member of the Soulsborne fans. Now I tackle Sekiro. Naturally, it is buttering my ass for me. Thanks for your well made and informative videos. I’ll be subbed forever. Thanks Brother.
May I stress the importance of mid-air skills though. Starting an Ichimonji airborne is invaluable to my style
I would say that the Senpou Leaping Kicks from the Temple Arts tree is the Mikiri counter of sweep attacks. It smashes posture and you can immediately follow-up on it with two spinning kicks that won't be interrupted. Get it, you won't regret it.
Finally playing sekiro 2023 😂Ik late as ever huh. Thx for the vid
Just barely started playing the game for the first time after owning for about 2 years, this guide was extremely helpful!
Going over the skills: This is one of the most important skills!! I'd consider it core!!
Me: Which one?
Guide: *YES*
But he calls out each skill's name and shows it on the screen...
Memorizing bosses have become second-nature to me, I even know some cheeky ways to sneak in attacks in the middle of powerful, chained combos on Lady Butterfly, but i still can’t beat her, these tips are going to be really helpful tho, glad I found your channel!
I cant even defeat the tutorial general💀😭

Your deflecting skills are so good! I was in awe watching you just standing deflecting as if it's nothing special
Have already broken one controller over this game, but i love it none the less hahahahaa
Lady butterfly fucked me up for hours 😂😯

Maybe you'll learn some anger management because of it.
Here after Elden Ring! 1500’s Japan is such a vibe, thanks for the tips :)
Beating lady butterfly was so fun I can't believe I did it
How??? Im stuckkkk ffs. Did you have base vitality and 1 Healing Gourd? All videos I watched, I see they have 4 Healing Gourds and they say it's easy ://
@@Random131_ you should have more than one gourd and base vitality! I'm not following cowboy's guide to the t I'm just doing my first playthrough. There's another really good video by someone else where it shows to use shurikens when she's in the air, there are also other bosses you can do first and skills you can unlock! Good luck man
@TOMORROWVEIL Thanks, it turned out I was doing the Hirata Estate before going through Ashina outskirts. I found a Gourd seed but General Tenzen Yamauchi is giving me a hard time. God damn it I suck ://
I played this game the day it game out, as I’m a huge FromSoft fan. Thinking it would play similarly to the souls games, I struggled my way through the beginning of the game until I came across the Red-eyed Ogre. I died around 32 times and put the game down. Fast forward to now, I’m finally playing and enjoying the game. Your play throughs and guides are an enormous help. Thank you, Cowboy.
Already beat the game 2x already lol that is crazy I probably never will beat the game
Global Saturation same. It’s because we are so fast the game feels short.
@@globalsaturation7333 hi, i heard there r 4 endings on sekiro. Does it means it requires 4 playthrough to get all 4 endings?
Global Saturation same. I play games on the daily but it was even worse in terms of nonstop playing. I played till 5 am and until anyone said to chillout I would’ve kept going. It’s addictive and fun.
Global Saturation lol I lose track of time so easy with sekiro, last couple times I’ve stopped playing because I started hearing magpies outside in the morning 😂

Itachi would clear a room without a sound, and no one would bat an eye. It's fucking Naruto who would announce his presence and charge in like a dumbass...
After 2 yrs, I have picked this game, and your vids are as always top notch. Keep being awesome
the only listen is Hesitation is defeat, face those difficult bosses and enemies because if not, how will you succeed?
Sword Saint Isshin gives the players the best advice. "Hesitation will get you killed"
Fr nice picture bro I got the same plus good username
This is one of the best tutorials I've ever seen. Thanks so much!!!! Keep it going!!!
I tap almost exclusively. The only time I'll block is if it's a huge multi-attack I don't know the timing for that I know I can't deflect.
Daaaaaaamn Cowboy..... I had barley started the lets play and the walkthrough is going up already lol. I look forward to playing this with the best guide maker on RUclips. Greeting from the UK.
Hey Cowboy! Thanks for the tips man. I just have one question left, what do I do about dragonrot? I know I can cure it, but when should I, if at all?
Dragonrot affects NPC sidequests so just cure it as you feel necessary.

DUDE! I started pecking away at this game 3 years ago, off and on during my Apex obsession.
I decided last week I would go all in and start over, having never beat Lady Butterfly 😱
Started by watching some random's walkthrough with no voiceover and no text advising why they were doing anything. As I am now approaching Lady Butterfly again, I felt I must learn wtf I'm still missing. So, of course, I search "how to play Sekiro" 😂 and find this!
As I'm watching and getting pumped, I'm thinking "God I hope he has a game walkthrough!" I was pleased to hear at the end that there is one!! 🥳🥳🥳
