@@obscure.reference Nah, not really. Just make the first deathblow on Juzou a stealth one, quickly talk to Nogami to make him enter the fight and just help him out by stabbing the drunkard in the back and setting him on fire. Extremely easy, do it all the time and Nogami never dies either lol.
Lernos Rotosch it’s an easy boss yeah. we’re talking about first playthroughs though. most people don’t play this game fifteen times. even twice. plus this thread is about not using nogami, which isn’t what you’re implying.
If I may, you missed an interesting tip for Juzou the Drunkard. At the back of the boss area there is two shield wielding enemies. It's usually wise to not kill them, simply because if you keep your distance and attract the boss far enough, they won't follow you and do you no arm and can provide an easy resurection if you happened to die to Juzou himself. Just run to a shield man, pop their shield with your axe and land a Deathblow for a guaranteed removal of the smear covering your second resurrection. immortal9922 I actually loved the battle with butterfly. Like most bosses in this game she’s so annoying but once you beat her you realise the beauty of the combat and know you could do it again.
The "Floating passage" skill actually really helps with isshin, the sword saint in his sword only stage. His dialougue states that "hesitation kills". If you use this skill in his sword stage to its 5th blade slice he will almost (i think it glitched a couple times) always take a step back from you giving you space and time to get ready for his next move. Since the move shows no hesitation, i tried it and it worked. But i encourage others to try it and see if it works for them.
Floating passage is great for the Emma & Issin boss fight. They can’t interrupt it when you use it as a counter attack to any of they’re strikes. Facts! It made the fight so much easier once I found that out
The bell Mother Nogami holds was originally Kuro's. Its likely that Kuro, when retreating from Lady Butterfly's room, passed by her and saw her scared and trembling. So he gave her the bell as a way to calm her down. Hes a really nice kid, after all. Thats why she is so bent on trying to return the bell to him, as thanks.
@@ArstotzkaEmpire He gave the bell to Mother Nogami, not to Lady Butterfly. Mother Nogami is right outside the door that leads to the boss fight (the door kuro goes to in the cutscene)
Also it’s possible to eavesdrop on Juzou the second time you fight him in the game and he talks about how easy it was to invade the estate and how the Owl’s info was right on. Clearly showing that he was responsible for the raid.
In my opinion, Floating Passage is amazing if you're having trouble with Nightjar ninjas. It pressures them hard and they rarely ever break out of it. Two of those are enough to posture-break them.
Its also very clearly the same sword he runs along Wolf's cheek in the opening cutscene. Its a very obvious, and disappointingly predictable, "Top 10 anime betrayals" moment.
@@dan240393 I don't think most people are going to remember the shape of every sword in the game. Especially when they only appear in two short cutscenes.
@@Healermain15 Its more that the first cutscene takes a long moment about showing you the tip of that particular sword, as you are introduced to Wolf. Its the sword that gives Wolf his scar and introduces him to his teacher. Who also happens to be the guy who introduces him to Butterfly. And its a pretty distinctly shaped sword. Its a nearly straight bladed katana, that is about double length, has an extremely deep blade and a very square tip. Its the only sword you see that looks like that (at least as far as I've gotten in the game). Its the kind of thing that, having played previous From Soft games, was a clear tell that we were going to see that sword again.

@@Crazelord91 It is pretty straightforward for a From Software game, but it still holds many many secrets, just like a From software game. Besides, we all know that Vaati is the best story teller there is. I just want more!
There's a few things that are very vague but I won't mention them bc they're late-game spoilers, I'm assuming the DLC(if made, don't want to jinx it) will answer a certain storyline that's cut off in the lore which will probably answer another seperate question.
Floating Passage does vitality and posture damage even when the enemy is blocking, and an enemy parry is almost guaranteed on the last strike, not before, not after, allowing you to manage your own parry's timing effectively. Best combat art against bosses IMO.
The fact that it's pretty much the fastest combat art also helps, the first strike comes out faster than a regular R1 attack if I'm not mistaken, and your opponent is most often forced to block the following strikes
@@pudimverd3 Indeed, I forgot about this detail. Where an R1 combo will give you a single strike of pure vitality damage, floating passage will get you two. Thank you for mentioning it.
@@owendrungle I disagree. Spiral Cloud Passage will use 5 spirit emblems per full combo use, meaning you can use it 4 times (without ceremonial tanto on a fully upgraded character) in a single boss fight for what is in my opinion a very small upgrade.
Helped me a ton on both Owl fights. During his sword slam on Great Shinobi, and during his firecrackers attack on Father (just dodge to your right side, use only the first two attacks of Floating Passage. Easy damage)
List of things you will say while playing a from software game: -Wtf is that -how did he hit me!!! -a one shot!!! -o cool a item O JESUS CHRIST IT WAS A TRAP!!! -i think im getting gud *one minute later* i regret saying that
Everything minus the "O jesus christ it was a trap!!!" on the item thing. More surprised when it wasn't... And more surprised about the boss-surprise-traps when you dive into an area and can't get out anymore, but you weren't prepared...
Floating Passage's strength is that it actives quickly, and it can catch and interrupt certain enemies during some of their attacks. Its other strength is that it is available without using any skill points. I personally like to follow up attacking with the Sabimaru with Floating Passage, not always, but on quite a number of enemies. I love fast, blinding flurries that somewhat penetrate an opponent's guard.
Regarding the "where were we during the attack" - I was under the impression that the eavesdrop through the window in one of the houses that's quite prominently marked for you to not miss it is basically you listening to your wounded past self arguing with someone that you must go out there and fight.
Floating Passage is the best technique vs High health enemies and bosses, it deals good amount of damage and posture damage to bosses even while they are blocking, the fact that it deals damage when they are blocking is really game changing for me.
@@iKiNGCoLoR you can keep using it with zero spirit emblems btw. Not sure if it's a bug but it works in my game with 100% consistency. Also not sure if the damage is lessened but it doesnt look like it. It still does a fuck ton of damage with zero emblems. Try it
@@mrfister1234 you can use all weapon arts/skill without the proper amount of spirit emblems, it just uses a weaker version of the attack. The mortal draw does a bit less damage and has a lot less range without the proper amount of spirit emblems. A little trick tho, if you have enough spirit emblems to full power the first hit, but not the second hit, the second hit will spend no emblems, but still be at full power.

I’ve never been so hurt in my whole life! I love floating passage and pretty exclusively used it for the whole game. It comes out quick and its multiple strikes can help you deal fast posture damage against temporarily vulnerable enemies that you’d normally only be able to hit once or twice in that amount it time. Plus, the strikes happen in pairs (2+2+1) so you don’t have to commit like you do with something like ichimonji.
apparently they buffed it sometime after he made this video so its a lot better now. although your comment is 2 years old now so. you probably already know that lol
Floating passage is meant for lore, it's the same technique used by Genichiro. The description of the passage states that it is taught by the Tamoe and is said to be a heretical sword art.

Floating passage is pretty good against many bosses like owl or genichiro, for whenever you intend to do vitality damage to them. If you can get behind them, and get it in, you will usually be able to get through the whole combo before the enemy blocks, and it offers more damage then if you were to just hit them twice normally before they block.
I've seen a few say it, but floating passage is great In the late game. It's fast, damages through guard, and leaves Sekiro in a good position to deflect attacks. Very useful against opponents that are quick but tend to block all strikes (Owl, Isshin, O-rin, etc.)
I agree with this entirely. It being fast is the best selling point, and it does a LOT of hits so if they guard they take a lot of chop damage. It's great for any block-heavy boss.
Using the mortal blade ninjistsu along with floating passage dices up even the toughest enemies in the game, it became my go-to after messing around with the blood blade
@@sal3845 Nah it's not mortal blade. It's a ninjutsu that extends the range of your sword attacks and makes it looks like they are a weaker version of mortal blade hits. It works together with regular attacks and skills.
@@ToveriJuri I wouldn't say that Bestowal isn't amazing on its own though. Like everything in Sekiro, there is some specific situations were this ninjutsu is bash insane. For example, Mibu village, cut through any wave of enemies (even the bell weilding fatties) at safe range. Another example, which might be even better, is in Ashina castle when the interior ministry invade the place. You can fight large crowds of enemies like it's nothing with this ability. It's not as flexible as puppeteer or bloodsmoke and you're probably not gonna use it as often but it's usually good in every situations where the two others aren't very existing at all, which I found being a huge advantage.

5:49 I think it is a devastating or at least a traumatic illusion to sekiro as when he was young he was left by Usui (Owl Father) in Usui's forest to survive amongst the illusions. As he would be very unskilled in young age, the illusions would have been a very traumatic experience for him.
one more thing is when u kill the bandit that hints u about the pagoda he remains dead in present time (he's disappeared from his actual place before the chained ogre) this makes me think that our actions 3 years ago are actually affecting the present (even though it was supposed to be memories). so if u planned to kill him, u should buy his wares first, not like me where i didnt get any kunai lol
I'm very late to the party, but one thing I noticed about Floating Passage is that it's pretty good at building up Burn status on enemies when used in conjunction with Living Force.
What impressed me more than the secrets is your ability to understand and explain the little stories within the game and make all the connections that I dont pay attention to when I play haha
What achievement is that? I’m a huge achievement hunter myself but I don’t see what achievement this would pop. I got the Lady Butterfly achievement just by defeating her, I haven’t got the idol yet

I liked that ambiguous nature of the past games more tbh. My most memorable experience i had was in Dark Souls and randomly finding the secret passage in blighttown to the underground beach area (I'm tired and can't think of the name right now). I did this after beating it and thinking I found everything big. This game feels like it's lacking major secret areas like that, which is a bit of a let-down (to me). Still love the game though.

When I am farming those elite ashina douchebags in Ashina Castle for divine confetti, I like using the sabimaru to poison them, dodge back out of their range, and then immediately use floating passage, dodge back again, use floating passage again, then rinse and repeat, using sabimaru when poison wears off and you can keep those piece of shift bastards stun locked to death. Floating passage is definitely one of the best abilities in the game. Not game breaking like Ichimonji: Double, but plenty useful for many situations.
On the first health bar of Lady Butterfly I just right dodge attacked repeatedly until her health was gone, she never fought back until the second bar. I found the drunk guy harder to beat but I did forget to remove the demon bell curse.
Hey vaati you have done such a great work in the Soul series that has help me understand and More apritiate the games from fromsoft. Also I was waiting just for this video from you and ceap on the awsome work
A quick note about the 3 pagoda, you dont need to kill the guy to open the door and get the prosthetic. he wont damage you during the door opening animation, and then once you go inside, his pathfinding has issues getting in himself. You can then grab the prosthetic and run away like the coward you are. (I was very very early game when I got to this area, and stumbled upon here by accident.
I really struggled with Lady Butterfly's second phase at first till I realized the summons are whats turning into her floaty tags attack. Honestly once you know how she works she isn't all that hard but I will admit it took me quite a few frustrating runs before I actually figured her attack pattern out :D
For anyone struggling with lady butterfly, she's easily exploitable by dodging fromin front of her so that your facing her shoulder, and then doing the counter part of the dodge. Just spam this, and you can get the first deathblow in a minute, no damage.
You can combine floating passage with the ninjutsu that allows you to use the mortal blade (kind of) so you can shread large groups of ennemies i used this to farm a lot
That second 'secret' boss fight in Hirata estate is seriously hard as hell; it's the only boss so far that I've truly felt frustratingly stuck against.

Floating passage is great for roaches and dog packs. It is highly situational and honestly once you get the cleave type spear prosthetic that is way better for large groups of any bigger type enemy's.
The Owl when you first meet him in Hirata Estates says "The Master is absolute". 3 years earlier When you start the game Owl says "Your father comes first and your master second" Did he become a Shura? Did he become engrossed by the divine heir blood? Hmmm
"I didn't find this on my first playthrough" That...surprises me, actually. I remember thinking "huh I wonder what's down this way, since we can swim and all in this game" got my ass handed to me a few times by that kicking shinobi guy though. This is my game of the year 2019 for sure.
Yeah im always looking for hidden ways so i found the kicking ninja easly but couldnt beat him at 1st So i just ran and got the mist raven and run without killing him lol
4:02 i forgot about him and went on ahead to kill Juzo the drunkard and it was funny for me to see him ran in an empty yard and said - "Looks like this place is clear." good observation sir! LOL
Floating passage isn't really meant for crowds, it's more meant for burst dmg'ing either posture or health on single targets as most enemies will try to block if they can causing a fairly large jump in their posture bar or decrease in their health bar. This becomes compounded even further if you combo it with sabimaru, as you can chain the combo until sabimaru depletes your spirit emblems meaning some tougher enemies may never even get the chance to attack. For example against Isshin Ashina I was able to burst him down entirely before he could do anything by chaining floating passage with sabimaru.
I LOVE floating passage, you do need to be careful initiating it like all arts. And it's a three stage animation. First button press is only two strikes, second adds the jump. Third adds the final slash.
I did not know about that last fight... Spoilers ahead... I did however think to look at where Owl "died" and the body was clearly replaced (there's no beard and his arms are super skinny for instance) with a normal bandit or some dude. Surprised that wasn't on the list.
@penalcrack I'm outside the last boss fight (haven't tried him yet). I ran back and checked, I don't think his arms are that skinny. Regardless there is no beard (you can move the camera around and see his face decently well). Also, looking now there's no sword on him, which I don't know about the beginning of the game but seems weird.
@@naidoelcam1215 It's at the end of the game, when you go back and he's "Dead" not breathing or talking. There is clearly at least no beard and I doubt they would forget it.

Not sure if anyone commented this, but the Bell is on Kuro's Belt when you talk to him. I think when Kuro exits the bossfight room, he drops the bell near the grandma, who recognizes it? Or maybe the grandma gave it to Kuro as a way to give him additional "divine protection" (taken from the bell's item description). It seems like Inosuke was also tasked to protect Kuro. During his dialogue in Hirata Estates, he laments that he couldn't really fulfill his duty and that the Hirata line is now over. (not sure if that means Kuro is of Hirata descent either; still piecing together lots of things)
Technically Owl uses the hidden technique, Shadowfall, which is a hidden technique you gain access to by learning the ultimate techniques of both the Shinobi text and the Senpou text (available near the Demon Bell) which may indicate that Owl trained at Senpou Temple for a time, possibly before he became a Shinobi
For anyone who may be struggling with Lady Butterfly, I'll give you a small, subtle, huge hint on how to beat her: when you first get to her area you'll see text about the sidestep/dodge mechanic.
Do people really struggle against her? I found her very easy. Shuriken staggers her when she's in air. Her range is shit, making it easy to bait and axe her some important questions.
@@bruhder5854 She whooped my butt repeatedly! I think it's a testament to how varied they are, especially because Sekiro is distinct from most FromSoft games in its lack of RPG classes.
The Floating Passage combat art does have some usages. It can be used to manipulate certain boss AI into playing more passively. I used this on Owl, Genichiro, and O'Rin of the Water. It was particularly helpful with O'Rin, as it forced her into using two moves. One where she jumped back and then did an easy to parry maneuver, and an immediate follow up strike that you could i-frame through.

@@joshbrasch9070 it has also been buffed since he made this video, so that might be why ;)
The second phase of the floating passage can actually be used to hop over sweep attacks, the bleed through damage on block is nice too
It depends, floating passage is really good with bestowals ninjustsu combination and clear up group of enemy at once
In my opinion, Floating Passage is amazing if you're having trouble with Nightjar ninjas. It pressures them hard and they rarely ever break out of it. Two of those are enough to posture-break them.
The only person I see possibly luring the wolf away during the hirata attack is the owl.
That's what I thought too, since it was all to fake his death

The Spiral Cloud upgraded version of it is even better.
@@owendrungle I disagree. Spiral Cloud Passage will use 5 spirit emblems per full combo use, meaning you can use it 4 times (without ceremonial tanto on a fully upgraded character) in a single boss fight for what is in my opinion a very small upgrade.

Nah it's not mortal blade.

Long shot, seeing as this Sekiro post was 4 years ago but how do you get Sabimaru?
It helps a lot!
Thanks for these awesome things! 🙏
What things? Everybody would've got at least 90% of everything mentioned here.
Sekiro: I can't say I know much of The Hirata estates, It doesn't RING A BELL!!!
Booooo!
I LOVE floating passage, you do need to be careful initiating it like all arts. And it's a three stage animation. First button press is only two strikes, second adds the jump. Third adds the final slash.
Floating passage was incredible for Lady Butterfly. Slash away, side step, repeat. Works well with Living Force as well.
This is the most calming Sekiro video I've ever watched, thank you!
I did not know about that last fight...
Spoilers ahead...
I did however think to look at where Owl "died" and the body was clearly replaced (there's no beard and his arms are super skinny for instance) with a normal bandit or some dude. Surprised that wasn't on the list.
Ugh, Owl's such a prick.
Go watch the cut scene with old owl. His arms are skinny, it's actually him that you see "dying". He just fakes you out.
@@naidoelcam1215 if you try to attack him at that point he gets an invulna shield, like some other living npcs have.
@@naidoelcam1215 It's at the end of the game, when you go back and he's "Dead" not breathing or talking. There is clearly at least no beard and I doubt they would forget it.
I WRECKED guardian ape during his post party stun with Floating Passage. He would have gone through it otherwise. But on a stunned boss, it does work.
If you ever fight him again and haven't tried this yet, make sure to use the Spear prosthetic on his 2nd phase when he falls down ;)
Really appreciated the advance major plot point warning; considerate and classy, and only adding to my crush on the man behind youtube's most silky voice. You are a gem, a gentleman, and a scholar as always Vaati. Keep doing God's work.
I can´t believe I missed the second battle against Owl in the Hirata State, I guess gonna play the game again
I discovered everythinng!!!!
Vaati: “Hold My Beer”
Vaati: Hold my Sak... Tea!
The combat art is very useful against bosses that you stunned with fire or the firecrackers
Or on slow moving or distracted bosses like Juzuo
Vaati, you're a life-saver with that tip about the shinobi walls having scrolls also. I'm sure there are others i've missed now.
I love this comment. Mainly that you gave the Senpou location
(Says floating passage is bad)
Excuse me? Sorry, I couldn't hear you over the sound of Owl's posture breaking.
*Giggles in Double Ichimonji after Owl throws his bomb*
Sorry mate, I can't hear you over my Posture resetting
@@Shiftinggers fair point.
I just never used that move because I can never trust myself with the timing on the slow startup
If you kill the thief he wont be there in the future
WHENS THE LOREEEE?? Ive been waiting for the lore videos!!
Vaati said he doesn't even play games anymore, this stuff is just a quick voiceover job. So I'd expect never.
@@BasedGiant88 lol no shit?
check out creepling, he has some good lore vids
For anyone who may be struggling with Lady Butterfly, I'll give you a small, subtle, huge hint on how to beat her: when you first get to her area you'll see text about the sidestep/dodge mechanic.
Do people really struggle against her? I found her very easy. Shuriken staggers her when she's in air. Her range is shit, making it easy to bait and axe her some important questions.
@@bruhder5854 She whooped my butt repeatedly! I love Sekiro because what makes one boss challenging or not to a given player largely comes down to that player's style and skills, not their character's.
