Hey Uncle Dave. This controller series is a gold mine of knowledge. Thanks for your effort. I know this is and old review but the current version of Icon's DAW controllers are really special. I'm talking SSL UF8 special for a fraction of the price.

The SSL UF8 is the best in its class although its the most expensive for sure

I've been using a 25 fader (24+master) Icon Platform control rig since January. I agree with you. The only control surfaces on the market that are potentially even on par with the Icon lines are the exponentially more expensive Avid S series controllers.
The Icon Platform series, the smallest in their lineup, retains all of the build quality and most of the functionality of even the flagship Qcon Pro X series. It's amazing! If I had the desk space, I'd have the Qcons.
There have been some similarly modular controllers in the past. Mackie had one back in the day that, I'd guess, Icon took some design ques from, as well as the extremely popular Avid Artist series controllers. On the lower end, there was Behringer with a decent modular offering some years ago as well.
Currently, Icon is indeed the best on the market for non-Pro Tools users and the best under $20K.

Dave! Just stumbled across your channel, it looks like the studio’s come a long way since my lessons.

I’ve had the Pro and three extenders for three years. The jog wheel has a mind of its own sometimes and they STILL haven’t found an actual use for the bottom LCD strip ( in logic) but aside from that it’s been a cracking investment.

My bargraphs never worked well, faders became noisy besides many other issues. The tech support couldn’t fixed after many tryings. So I got rid of them, bought a Behringer , and it was plug&play… not so beautigul, but reliable for pro use

I 100% agree with you on the issues with banking on a surface control...if I have 16 faders in front of me I want my DAW to bank in groups of 16 so I know if I'm on bank 2 I'm looking at tracks 17-32 on my controller AND my screen...anything else means I have to take time to calculate out which tracks correspond to which faders...
If I were to suggest one physical change to this controller it would be to separate the main fader from the other 8 on the central unit...I could see myself grabbing that fader by mistake all the time...
But in the end, for me at least, my ideal surface controller would be a single fader, the basic transport and channel controls (solo, mute etc) and 12 assignable knobs for plugin control...give me one of those and I will be in forever...

Hi Dave, I am using Luna with a UA X16 interface
and a satellite. Would the QCon work with my setup?
And also which DAW is the QCon setup for from the factory right out of the box? I would appreciate any advice, thank you 😊

I like how everything is a bit more compact.
If you put 3 S1's next to each other, half your room is gone.

Can you run the Icon QCon ProX in tandem with an SSL UC1 and would they snyc? i.e. if I changed a channel on the Icon would it change the channel on the UC1?

Hey Uncle Dave! Thank you for these videos! I'm just curious because I've watched the Qcon Pro X and Behringer X-Touch video series'. I have the X-Touch and only use Cubase. Which one did you feel worked better with Cubase?

    • @HomeRecordingMadeEasy

The X-touch is what I would go with.

@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy Just wanted to let you know since it looks like they haven't put this on their webpage yet. I had written to Icon just to ask them to clarify the differences between the G2 and Pro X and if they were planning to update the Pro X to be a bit smaller. They answered my question and actually sent me a RUclips video showing they already produced a new replacement line for all their controllers. You might want to see that video! ruclips.net/video/ZyCE8GenH8o/видео.html

Can you use layers like they use in digital livemixers? I mean modus1 is channel 1-16, modus2 is channel 17-32 etc.
