As an FL Studio user, Ian Walker created a script to model the layover plugin perfectly. The script is even pushed by Icon. He's even got info going into the 2nd screen! I'll be picking one up at the beginning of the year, I've been eyeing it for a while now.
ian walker has a ssl uc1 in his vids , have u ever thought of using it with fl studio ?, wonder if it would work , i wanna get the prox aswell with fl studio
Hey Dave and everyone watching. I have been using a qcon pro x and 2 XS extenders for a few years now, I love mine for my workflow but yet I wouldn’t recommend these to anyone looking to buy a midi mixing board. The support from Icon is not very good and requires major improvement. (check their Facebook user groups and you’ll understand) and there are major issues with updating the firmware, people destroying their boards trying to do the updates. I’m willing to bet Dave that Icon sent you those 3 units with the latest firmware 2.07 installed so you won’t have to experience the firmware upgrade procedure from hell first hand! Also and I can’t stress this enough….if you are using a mac studio with m1 max chip or ultra, there are issues with connectivity, causing boards to freeze. I have recently encountered this issue since upgrading while never having issues previously with intel IMac 27” model or my M1 Mac mini. These are new issues and Icon seems to be keeping this issue very low key. I have vids posted on my RUclips channel demonstrating the issues I have run into and some solutions I found on my own without help from icon support so buyers please beware before purchasing. You’re basically buying a board with little to no support from Icon. If I could go back I would have purchased the SSL UF8 boards. At least you will have a proper support system if you encounter problems, these are very expensive units and there is potential to destroying them with firmware updates leaving you with essentially a brick with a blue screen on your desk. That you will have to send back at your cost to icon for them to repair which can take weeks or months depending on where you live. Functionally they are great to use, but if you ever need support or repair, best of luck. Lessons learned here. Not trying to slag the company, just a real world user who has experienced these first hand and ultimately wants improved support form Icon. I have been helping frustrated icon users with troubleshooting problems over the past few months as so many are feeling lost and helpless with their issues. Cheers
Thanks for the info. I watched your videos prior to the Icon showing up here in my studio. You did a nice job! Thanks for the info about the "lack" of support from Icon. I don't know the company all that well and I have not experienced any issues to this point. However, it's good to hear from users who own this unit and have used it for longer than myself. I appreciate you sharing your experiences
Can you help me man? I've got an M1 & its not working at all - I still have my 2016 Mac Pro in the cupboard with overheats. - hence the Mac mini upgrade . . cheers dude . .
To solve for the clunkiness of plugins use on the qcon, you can use a smaller and affordable touchscreen display or touchscreen overlay on a 21 in display. Slide the plugin window into the TS display and tweak any plugin setting as desired. Think of it as a smaller Slate Raven solution as it pertains to plugins. Qcon for tactile, TS display for plugins.
Good idea. However, most plugins have very small controls and I dont think would work very well with a touch screen. However, I think some plugins may work well. I would have to try it.
Thanks for this review! I realize it's a lot of work to put this stuff together so it’s appreciated. I watched twice and didn't notice an answer for this, or I missed it. 1.Does this controller use "banks" or "pages" for tracks? Meaning, if I have 1 Master unit and 2 Extenders which is 24 faders, will it scroll through say 92 tracks that is in the DAW?(Cubase) 2. This seems like a great option in concert with the Console 1 to control plugins with hardware. However, I still don't like the idea of taking an "Insert" slot for the Console 1 even though I never use all the slots. In any case It was a great review! Thanks again!
Thank you Terry. I appreciate the kind words. 1. yes, it uses banks and pages just like most controllers 2. Yes, you'll have to use an insert slot if you are planning on using console 1 with the Qcon
Hi, I'm wondering about banking. If you're using a fader Port 8 you would have to bank over to Channel 26. Could this possibly be the case of the QCon for Studio One and the QCon to match up?
We were at a concert last night. I have been waiting for this one. The BEST thing about this unit is the midi mapping for me. You can't reassign midi CC numbers on the Fader Port 8. Kinda a joke for a $500 unit. There are days I regret buying it.
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy hey Dave. Yeah, I saw that as I went thru the video but I’ve been considering trying Cubase for about 3 months now. I feel as though I need to learn a second Daw to expand my capabilities. Studio One is great, but it can’t do everything. Plus the midi integration with the Presonus gear (or any other midi devices) is how you put it, “clunky”. The Icon is cool but is more of a mixing surface. I’m in the market for a more generic, fully programmable midi controller to help me production of music, not mixing. We will see what happens for me by years end.
Plus upon further research, the thing is huge. Even one unit. Another thing I don’t like about the Fader Port 8. Generic, fully programmable and small. That’s what I’m looking for.
hey. i would like to see your review of novation remote zero sl mkii. any version with/without keyboard. i found it superior for plugin control over any other device. r1 - it has automap software which specifically exist to catch plugin window which you open in DAW, so switch between vst's should have less problems... (need testing) r2 - it has ability to assign more than 8 params of vst to controler and this is HUGE! you can use banking to select next page of 8 params of your vst Synth for instance, which allows you to Really turn off the monitor and customize your synth preset . thats what i see from youtube anyway... so if youll have chance to grab that novation device i would do 100% watch time on that video of yours :)
If you only use your mouse for plugins knowing that that method works perfectly then that's probably the right balance for workflow or like you say get a Console 1. Thank you for the video, I've been waiting for you Icon review. 😎
Thanks for covering this, I bought the basic fader port about £200 UK and all the lights are on bit I cannot get it to talk to logic? I'm hoping it's an M1 Chip problem or I'm dumber than I claim! I heard you mention logic i/o so I'm going to look at that... Incidentally there's more than 1 vid out there about non compatability issues in several DAWS.. So that's a club I guess I'm in... Alls well in life beyong this.. Thanks HRME 👍🌐

Dave new Win PC build 4 drives Studio One 5 where do you suggest what drive to install plugins too? Thanks man
Install your plugins on your main C drive with the application
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy I mean like 3rd Party ToonTrack ETC. Or use like a D: drive? Thanks Dave
The selected channel is always visible on the left side of the mixer. Why do you feel the mixer should shift down?
I like the screen to mimic the hardware. Just a workflow thing

Yea, plugin control seems to works best with the mouse.
killin it brother.
🥋
Thank you
How did you setup the mixer so the Pro X is in the middle its not in the manual to set it up like that....its either lon the left or the far right..
Just physcially put them together any way you want and all the setup is done in the DAW. That video is coming next week
