Slapping an extra engagement comment here just because you guys need as much recognition for your efforts as possible. This is the busiest time of the year for you guys and I hope the channel growth continues! You 2 are amazing for the sport.
I agree! That’sa tiny bit more engagement!🤓
100% agree
Speaking of channel growth, wasn't it 140k subs just a moment ago? 152k today. 😮
Agreed.
Colin: "alright guys, we've thought about it and we're just gonna use the groups Liz and Loz made because they're pretty good and we aren't organised enough to do it ourselves
Oh... But swap Aivars and Luke"
does Colin have any say in groups?
@@magnether744 of course hes got pull, i mean, the man was a space cowboy!
@@magnether744 Probably. He's a co-owner of Giants Live, which is strongly involved in WSM, so if he made a recommendation they would probably make the change.
@@highviewbarbell Spaaaaaace Coooooooowboy
Why swap Aivers and Luke? Just because they are Brothers doesn't mean they shouldn't have to compete against each other. They are doing the same comp. Frankly this is a great way to pick the groups so human bias is taken out of it. The fact it is so good means Worlds won't do it. They don't give a shit about the sport itself, for them it's just a TV show.
The whole group concept needs to be thrown out. It needs to be one single set of events that all athletes do, and the top 10 go to the finals. That's the only fair way to do it, it ensures that the top athletes are in the finals, no one gets an "easy heat."
I believe that's how the 2004 WSM was, and it seemed like it worked fine.
If someone can genuinely explain why that wouldn't work, I'm listening.
If it was first and foremost a strongman competition instead of a TV show, they wouldn't have groups. Unfortunately, it's all about drama.
It is an American based TV show, they will want it rigged so plenty of Americans get to the final, hopefully, (from their point of view of course). Fair, will be the last thing on their mind, unfortunately.
@@RobG001 It has been this way ever since they started qualifying heats, and in the 90s there were maybe a couple Americans at the top level.
Thanks to Loz and Strongman Archives for keeping us informed on the sport.
Also, Loz may have invented the sport of fantasy strongman.
We need a board game.
All 20 compete in the same events, the lowest of each of the first 10 events is eliminated each event. After that you know the top ten. Lowest of 19 is eliminated, lowest of 18 etc. At 10 we go into a semi-normal competition. No one is eliminated. I also think it would be cool for the eliminated athletes to get on air mic time to guest commentate and introduce themselves.
Alternate is the "guest" commentator at the beginning. #20 is guest commentator for 2nd event. etc.
WSM really needs to showcase the personalities of the athletes more and this is the cheapest way I can think of to bring it together. During the second phase I would also find if fascinating to have a round table discussion of the 11-20 talking about events and athletes in snippets.
I wish there was a way to get WSM to see this. Amazing idea
Eliminating any athlete after one event would be a pretty poor approach in my opinion. Nearly every athlete has one or two bad events, and I don't think it would make sense to eliminate someone based on bombing their worst event when they could crush most of the competitors on the rest of the events. I feel like this idea removes the benefit of grading athletes on their cumulative strengths and weaknesses. I love the rest of your ideas of getting everyone some air time. The edited footage they show on TV is so rushed and impersonal feeling
Liz are you embracing the purple now? I like it tbf
That tom stoltman group would be insane. Bish vs luke in the stone off would be insane
Dear WSM.... Just use these groups please.
Gotta swap Luke out though 😂
@@George_Bland luke for aivars, as we saw in europe's they are very close on the group events.
So few Swedes, Norwegians, Fins, Icelandics, Lithuanians, Estonians, Lats, etc compared to years ago.
Strange isn't it, there's definitely too many Americans, it needs more nations represented.
@@user-nr1mq6ny8ytbf they are the best based on performances right now. There are many of them, but most are deserved based on results
Strongman is not that popular in Sweden these days. Never shown on TV or any mainstream media. I don't even know who is swedens strongest man now? Magnus Samuelsson was a household name back in the days. There is a lot of strong people over here (including myself) so not any reason why should not have a top guy there
I think what is lacking for swedish strongman to really go big again are winners who are also charismatic and can appear in other media. Few others have had the media success that Magnus had.
Swap Luke and Bobby. Keeping the "Bobby in the death group"-tradition alive😂
Tom's viking press is underrated! He blasted Hooper at it!
That was fun Loz and Liz. It seemed too easy to just do it that way and make a swap with Luke. All done and dusted as you brit's say. Wouldn't it be funny if WSM used your vid to assemble the teams? Love you guys!
Love the concept, cool video guys!
Awesome stuff! Creative and innovative strongman content!
is it better to do 1-10 2-9 3-8 etc for the top 10,
or 1-6 2-7 3-8 etc.
I think there's an argument for the 2nd way so that it's 4-9 and 5-10 as the top 2 in 'weaker' groups and we're more likely for the top 5 to outright win their group.
(compared with a 5-6 pairing the other way)
The argument for the first way is that it protects the very top seeds better, and it gives the 6/7/8 seeds a legitimate chance to win their groups.
I asked chatgpt to separate the athletes into groups and label which athletes it considers to be a seed and it came up with this:
Group 1:
Seed: Tom Stoltman
Pavlo Kordiyaka
Eddie Williams
Marcus Crowder
Wesley Derwinsky
Group 2:
Seed: Rob Kearney
Luke Stoltman
Adam Roszkowski
Kane Francis
Tristain Hoath
Group 3:
Seed: Mitchell Hooper
Aivars Šmaukstelis
Austin Andrade
Thomas Evans
Ondrej Fojtu
Group 4:
Seed: Evan Singleton
Jaco Schoonwinkel
Nicolas Cambi
Spenser Remick
Evans Nana Aryee
Group 5:
Seed: Rauno Heinla
Bobby Thompson
Mathew Ragg
Nathan Goltry
Oskar Ziółkowski
Group 6:
Seed: Adam Bishop
Trey Mitchell
Kevin Faires
Pa O’Dwyer
Gavin Bilton
Sorry Rauno. I asked why it chose Rauno as a seed and got this:
You are right to question the choice of Rauno Heinla as a seed in the group selections. When considering seeds, the focus should be on athletes with a strong track record of success in major competitions, particularly the World's Strongest Man and other high-profile strongman events. Seeding decisions can be based on factors such as recent results, experience, and reputation in the sport.
Let me review Rauno Heinla's background and performance:
Rauno Heinla is an experienced strongman competitor who has participated in various international competitions.
He is known for his strength in specific events, particularly deadlift events, where he has set records and performed exceptionally well.
While Heinla is a strong competitor, he may not be considered a top-tier seed compared to athletes like Tom Stoltman, Mitchell Hooper, and Adam Bishop, who have more consistently placed highly in major competitions.
Based on this assessment, you might prefer a different athlete as a seed for Group 5. An alternative could be an athlete such as Trey Mitchell or Bobby Thompson, who have a stronger track record in major competitions.
Thank you for pointing out the discrepancy, and I appreciate your feedback on the selection of seeds. Let me know if you need further adjustments or more information on the athletes' backgrounds.
Seed: Rob Kearney xDDD
Also, group 5, Jesus.
@@shiverr1337 Yeah I don't think Kearney warrants a seed just based on recent past performance but IMO it's not far off. Kearney is one of the most underrated athletes.
Its 5 groups with 6 athletes, if Im not totally wrong
@@DerKinGGonZo You're right. Here's what it came up with now:
Group 1:
Seed: Tom Stoltman
Austin Andrade
Nicolas Cambi
Marcus Crowder
Wesley Derwinsky
Oskar Ziółkowski
Group 2:
Seed: Mitchell Hooper
Adam Roszkowski
Kane Francis
Thomas Evans
Tristain Hoath
Pavlo Kordiyaka
Group 3:
Seed: Evan Singleton
Rauno Heinla
Spenser Remick
Nathan Goltry
Jaco Schoonwinkel
Evans Nana Aryee
Group 4:
Seed: Adam Bishop
Luke Stoltman
Kevin Faires
Trey Mitchell
Gavin Bilton
Ondrej Fojtu
Group 5:
Seed: Rob Kearney
Eddie Williams
Mathew Ragg
Pa O’Dwyer
Bobby Thompson
Tristain Hoath
Love the idea for this video! So fun!
I get why you have gav as a second see, but really he has been competing as a 5/6 seed based on performances!
Still would put jaco over gav in seeding anyday
Overall i really wish this is how they would do it live!
Excellent videos, thanks for doing all the hype for wsm!
Stats prof here: there's a very legitimate argument to be made for random seeding like this for all sorts of events, including *drumroll* parliamentary representatives. For real. Le hasard fait bien les choses, like they say on the other side of the channel.
Great video Loz and Liz! Love your content
Ideally, it would just be 30 athletes against each other (no groups) in some semi-final events, then the top 10 go to the finals. I think Bobby Thompson was 7th by points overall one year in the group stages, but got knocked out of the final by stone off. Get rid of groups and stone off. I understand it's harder to have a compelling narrative that way for the TV production, however.
Thanks, I think your discussion on this shows just how even the competitors are now, compared to just a few years ago where there were, to put no finer point on it, some make weights drafted in. Now, those you chose in 6-10 seeds could quite easily be beaten by those you have classed 11-30 and you wouldn't be surprised. I agree that Tom and Mitch are strong favourites but there is so much to play for for everyone else to get into the final and go for that third spot.
Cant WAIT for the results! Woo Hoo!
Thank you for this!
Loving the FA Cup draw style 💪
Very cool. This was a fun video.
Love this. Awesome videos as ever.
This was such a fun idea and your reasoning in the beginning was sound haha
Would be interesting to see how worlds would go with these groups using the results
Thank you very much.
love all this content!
I'm going again this year. A small 3 hour drive for me. I was hoping Big Loz and Auntie Liz was gonna be there!
I like the groups and doing all the same events is a big plus. It is interesting tho that comment at the end where you would be confident in predicting other shows but not WSM. What does that mean for WSM groups, not the best leveller?
If this shows anything it shows there's no excuse on WSM's part for bad group sorting. With a couple swaps these would be completely legit groups!
I was looking forward to your thoughtful grouping analysis but this was actually pretty fun!
That final group is killer
Love how much content you bring when WSM is happening
Hey Loz (or anyone else with lots of strength training knowledge), I noticed I can press a bar three times the reps of an equivalent weight sandbag. I know high reps is better for endurance and low reps for strength. Is that still true if I am pressing the same weight but finding it harder due to it requiring more stabilisation?
with an awkward object like a sandbag the reason its so much harder is it being less stable if you train it youll build up strength in your smaller stabilizer muscles which tends to be a good thing for injury prevention so id say its great.
@@lmao3448 thanks that's great! Do you think strengthening the stabilisers will also increase my pressing strength and make a difference back on the bar?
A random draw would be terrible. I'm not political and usually don't believe in organizing things but it would be so messed up if certain fan favorites did not have a pretty good chance of making it. It's kind of like the sport of strong man, is where you have to mature into it. As you get stronger and more popular you're going to have a better chance through organization, of making it to the finals.
Wouldn't be the worst thing to take Colin completely out of the decision-making process... looks like you're on to something!
after wsm groups you have to make a vid about who wouldve been in the final using youre groups
gladly the events are the same for all groups
Everyone take a shot every time they say “Interesting”
Only teasing, I love Liz and Loz and they work they do for strongman!
I would have to agree, these groups are not bad at all. Even the stoltmans in same group.
If this ended up being the groups it will be crazy and no true group of death. Tough groups and I still see an all American podium by these groups.
48 hours out and we still don't know the groups is mega frustrating!
I would certainly have Bish seeded ahead of Gav. 👍🏽
Thank you again Liz and Loz
The fact that Tom and Luke would never be in the same group is exactly what’s wrong with WSM.
I see Tom purposefully placing 2 or 3d in a group to make sure Luke gets into the finals.
Love your videos
I think rather than groups, you should have flights and the top 10 overall from all flights should go to the finals. Similar to WL.
Any way to watch live for free?
video idea, since 2021, a review / scorecard of your predictions versus actual results
This was an unreasonably fun video
WSM is here. Can't wait for the spreadsheet watch.
More than likely, WSM will “seed” Luke Stoltman over Matt Ragg especially being ESM winner, but fascinating lineup! While I would love to see all 30 compete together, the groups adds an element of uncertainty. Just get rid of that stone off!!!
Can’t wait for WSM, the anticipation is killing me!
I just wish they'd get rid of the stone off or only have it sometimes. It's an unfair advantage for certain people.
Loving the World’s content!
I've never understood fantasy sports... until now 😂 That was fun!
Group 5 would be a group of death, with both Stoltmans, Rob, and Bish. Crowder could make some noise, as could Evans Nana. I know it would never happen that way, but I'd love to see it
Random groups would probably be more ‘fair’, HOWEVER, it’d be a shame if a top3 lad would miss out just because (hypothetically) they got paired with Mitch and Tom.
Just confirming there’s no live stream ?
Yes but has a 6 month delay 👍
There was planned live stream but broadcaster pulled out
@@petershortland478 who was the broadcaster
Hooper wins, I hope Trey podiums, and I’m stoked for cambi
When are they picking the groups?
Those are good groups, no Giants live bias
Every year I wish this would happen. Cool to see you guys doing it. Now, if WSM could also do it pls
I know it means nothing, but this is definitely a fun video. Great content.
IMG gonna get mad at you guys for revealing the official group selection process.....
I think whoever won a comp in WSM qualifying or last year placed top 5 leads their group
Bobby knows with these events HE HAS to win the group because, Nick Cambi will definitely mix things up, great deadlifter, yoker and presser, sand bag chase we will have to see if he has improved on his loading
Looking forward to the live stream reading the sheets lol
they did "random" before. It was clearly fixed to bracket in certain people against each other in the finals. like all the events you help rig :)
at least now it is done openly - but only because the audience caught onto the bs
Once the groups are announced, we wont know how balanced they are until about a year or two from now 😉😉. Just like 2020 group 3 - Tom, Oleksi, Trey and Maxime?!?!?!
Random should be the only way. But with last man standing events fair takes a back seat to making a show.
It might be or it might not be; that's basically what random means.
Would love to see these groups. I'd maybe switch aivears and Luke and it'd be perfect ngl
When is the groups drawn?
Not sure why Luke wouldnt be in toms group. I understand they’re brothers but in comp , they’re athletes
Funny how good the purple looks on someone who doesn't like the purple one 😉😝🤣
Oh watch WSM pull a "hold my beer" and put Tom and Mitch in the same group.
To be fair, all these groups would make for great TV!
Do we even need groups ?
I hope for Bobby's sake he doesn't end up in a group with Rauno, there's no way he wins that stone off. Really though after last year I don't think anyone wants to be in Rauno's group
I’ve been waiting for this video 😂❤
That was fun
Uncle Loz wasn’t allowed to wear the WSM t-shirt, it seems 😅
Whatever happened to Andy Black?
Definitely most balanced groups besides the stoltmans being in the same group 😅
Put Hooper, Tom Stoltman, and Trey Mitchell in the same group😂
If you guys could mention Martins in Pakistan , that would be great 👍 🤔
I know these aren't the real groups but they still make me nervous.
Woohoo!
i would feel so bad for pa if that group happens
Why don’t they just put all the scores together for the heats? Then truly the top competitors would be in the final? I realize they probably don’t want to spoil the final or something, but it’s different events yes?
Heats make for good TV. It's almost like 2 separate competitions. You got to win/advance through stone off, then compete in the finals.
I think having more in the finals would give us a better indicator. I'd take the top 2 from each heat then have 3/4 in the stones off.
I'm trying to find information on who streams WSM 2024 and it seems that the result is... nobody? Are the WSM organizers really that dumb that there is no live TV/stream/whatever coverage und we really have to wait until late summer/Christmas to see this if we can't attend the live event? Are they frankly stuck in the 1900s? Would appreciate an answer to my question if there is any way to see the competition, thanks guys
No livestream
Ur doing the lords work
Every year Loz and Liz chooses the best balanced groups and then WSM comes along and picks ridiculous groups.
You should try an AI generated groups. I don’t know how to do it, but someone here might.
love you
I really would lol if you guys randomized the actual groups
Excited, it's WSM. Disappointed, it's WSM.
