the standard bars are perfect for open road or off road as it gives you plenty of leverage and you are sitting up-which if it's going to go off road then that's what you want. It's a lite weight mid range bike. By that I mean it's placed between 390 cc ktm to the DR650 which are within that under 200 kg wet range. The other big advantage with the scrambler which no other bike in it's range can equal is the relatively low seat height below 800 mm, so if you're vertically challenged & would prefer to get your feet down when dealing with uneven ground off road so you feel like you're in control, then this is the bike. Big advantages over the 803cc-it's lighter, larger fuel tank capacity of 14 litres over the 803, softer suspension (the classic had very firm front end even for corrugated on road sections it struggled with, Linear power delivery for more confidence off road (803 cc was dynamite as it has no mode's-& gearing very low so throttle response is very on/off. Deadly off road if you're not experienced). The 400 needs a linked chain, descent screen for highway use, bash plate, termigoni exhaust, C bow pannier bracket's with Hepco Becker soft luggage from motorcycle adventure products in australia and you're set. I've also seen someone put flip lever's on the bike which I think isn't a bad idea as if they hit the ground they simply flip up rather than breaking.
