Chaseontwowheels jumps on Ducati's attempt at getting in on the lower CC market with their lower engined Scramber Sixty2. They took out the 800cc engine found in the typical Scrambler and replaced it with a 399cc and lowered the price. Question is, how does it ride?

Bike struggles on the highway...passes every single vehicle out there and hits over 100 MPH. Wow, have we got spoiled! ;)

not hating, you just asked for criticism so i oblige.. i believe in my honest opinion that the bike cinematic intro was way too long :)

I appreciate that. I'll take that into consideration on the next first ride.

I love the cinematic sequences, but instead of shortening them, maybe just stick em at the end of the video instead? Best of both worlds. No need to sit through a long ass intro to get to the review, and that part is still there for those who want to see it at the end.

This smaller version is just a good bike for people with an A2 european license (up to 35KW power). We got like 15hp for A1, up to 35KW for A2 and like whatever you want for a full A license here in Europe so it's made to fit into the A2 category and it's cheaper so people who want the scrambler but cannot afford the bigger one can get the smaller one since we travel at lower speeds and a 400 is more than enough for any European roads

I can understand why on those boring straight wide roads u can only get your kicks from big capacity machines..here in the UK I would avoid those boring routes and have an absolute blast on small back country lanes where a big machine would be no better! I think you chose completely the wrong roads to form the best opinion about this bike .If u do big roads and freeways most of the time this really isn't the bike! If u live in an area with Twisties, back roads, gravel tracks and easy sandy trails do not underestimate this machine! Especially if u like the retro look

50-250 is a smaller bike. depends what you're used to & what you expect. You rode it on the highway only which isn't really it's strength as it's designed to go off road as well. The lower power output would be useful off road & would make it more manageable than the 803.

8k is a high price for a first bike but it's a premium brand and 8k gets you in the Ducati door. They should hold their money and allow the rider to move up within the brand IMO.

It is so much more fun to ride a slow bike fast then a fast bike slow on the daily. I think something lie this would be a ton of fun to go mess around on and what not. Great review man. One of the reason most manufactures are bringing out smaller cc bikes & 400cc versions of bigger bikes is in some countries Australia, UK etc. have rules for new riders where you have to ride a Learner Approved Motorbike, the 400 fits into that category where the 800 doesn't.

Your reviews are really helpful as I look to purchase my 2nd bike (I currently own a 1972 Triumph TR6R.) I was thinking of going with the 800cc Scrambler, but your video made me think it wouldn't be good for someone who is a newish rider (while riding a vintage bike is cool, it doesn't allow me to go all out, and I fear that it might mask some rookie mistakes I make.) I like the idea of this one, but I feel like the price is too high.
Plus, it was cool to come across your videos and see someone riding in my neck of the woods.

ye i wouldnt want a 400cc on an autobahn either aha, i know u guys can restrict any bike down to 47hp for ur a2 licence but here in the uk there are only certain bikes we can restrict

    • @ridingweeb4801
      @ridingweeb4801 7 лет назад

James Wallis no we are only allowed to half the power as of 2000 something. back in the day we could restrict 200hp 1.2L bikes to 48hp that was fun xD. But today we can only restrict a max of 75kw to 35kw. so 100hp to 48hp. Most of the restrictable bike only have like 80hp anyways

He does recommend it in the video, "it's an awesome option for a beginner bike."
I also think it's a perfect choice. When the 800cc Scrambler came out my first thought was "too bad it's too big for LAMS" and now they've got this I am very keen. If you have the cash, I'd drop it on this thing.

Would probably be a nice city/town bike, seems to have decent power for the engine size, from the mirrors it seems to run pretty smoothly too. Higher spec than a lot of small bikes so it fits a niche for small bikes being a bit more up spec. Reliability of course would be the question.

I imagine the smaller engine has been made specifically for the UK (and European?) market because the power of this bike (41hp) fits perfectly for an A2 licence in the UK which is basically a licence where you are restricted to ride max 47bhp bikes because of your age.

When I was younger I compared everything to sport bikes and it was always about the power. But you have to really look into the intended purpose of these bikes. Sure the engine is specifically for the euro market, but I personally want a scrambler to toss around in the desert. Kind of the purpose of a scrambler anyway, and I think the lighter bike might actually be a more fun bike.

Hey Chase, I know you already did a FR on a Fireblade but, do you think you can do one on the 2017 Fireblade? That would be so choice! Love the looks on the new CBR 1000RR's. Thanks in advance.

Rode one and didn't care for it. 8k for a 400cc bike is a bit much. I'd be interested in the 800cc one though.

Feels like the 800 should be 8k, and this 400 should be around 4k max..

Would you consider this a good starter bike for someone with the money to keep it up? It seems like a good first bike with the 400cc engine

@chaseontwowheels you should try the KTM Duke 390 and the RC 390. They are really good starter bikes.

"Scramblers" were the original motocross bikes, which is why even the modern ones look a little strange.
This Ducati could put on dirt tires, and have a ton of fun with those low gears.

Just wondering chase, what happnes to all this first rides bikes? like, i mean you kinda fuck up (iguess) the break in procedure. Oh btw maybe the power of some of these bikes comes in after the break in? idk.

      Tagalug yamaha Arman
The bikes are marked as test bikes by dealerships, so they will just have the one Ducati Scrambler Sixty2 that they let anyone ride to check it out. They sell them later as "dealership/show bikes".
So nobody is going to buy this exact bike from the showroom.

3:19 because (at least) in spain there are can't buy a 1000 cc bike straight away. With the A2 carnet you can buy bikes less powerfull than 47hp
