The Kargil conflict exposed the deep fissures within Pakistan's political and military structures and disrupted the momentum created by the Lahore Declaration. While Vajpayee and Nawaz Sharif shared a vision for regional peace and economic cooperation, Kargil derailed their efforts, reinforcing distrust and hardline policies on both sides. The war's legacy continues to influence India-Pakistan relations, hindering opportunities for meaningful engagement and regional prosperity. Post-Kargil, attempts at dialogue, such as the Agra Summit (2001), failed to achieve substantial progress. Kargil was a well thought out plan by Musharraf and his coterie of generals to basically sabotage the Pakistan-India break through talks, which would have changed the politico-economic future of the subcontinent. This, in turn, would compromise the influence of the Pakistani generals over the nation and the need for such a large standing army. They achieved their strategic goals while defeating their own nation. I disagree that it was an impulsive act by a few adventurous generals.
In 48 Pak didn't hav Nuk'es still they grab'bed half of Kashmir from Ind'ia under Jinnah. In 99 things were easier as Pak just occu'pied Kargil without figh'ting, Even if Pak had Nuk'es now, but leader was a cow'ard like Nawaz Shareef, so the attempt fai'led. Just ha'ng Nawaz haha
Hey Shayan, Great work. Hope your Pakistani audience/citizens understand the truth about the Indo-Pak wars, Since we hear from Pakistani friends, that they get to learn a very different take on our War history, in Pak Schools and paint a picture that India is an intruder and the biggest enemy of Pakistan. Hopefully, when People of Pakistan start changing their mindset, that is to keep Pakistan first, and then Islam, You would have won, half your battle in moving towards a progressive nation. Good Luck.
Ishtiaq being a Papistani, he talks only about Papistani benefits. He does not admit that India gave MFN status to Papistan but even after several years, this favor was not reciprocated.
It was the biggest blunder by both countries to fight battles at 5000 metres altitude - Pak for starting it & India getting dragged into it. It is crazy. Was it necessary? Only very young soldiers fought it as the aged - even a bit thirtyish take time to adjust to the altitude, let alone fighting the others ! All soldiers who got killed were in their twenties - a great loss to each of both countries.

A great video with factual picture (thanks to Dr. Ahmed's research and dedication) about the events that lead to the Kargil fiasco. This video comes on Pandit Nehru's birthday - a man who was one of the greatest statesman of his times. I hope Pakistan and its citizens realize that India has never violated the Radcliff Award unlike Pakistani establishment which has violated the borders many a times that lead to many wars and uncountable skirmishes. India was offended and deeply hurt in 1999 when the heights were illegally captured by Pak Army esp. when our erstwhile PM Late AB Vajpayee jee was visiting Pak and looking for peace in the region.
What facts all Indian Propaganda they spewing.. It's a shame all our Indian Leaders were LGBTQ including Nehru... Vajpayee was playing double game he even said that.

To concise it All .... Extreme Hate for Nonbelievers is above everything in Pakistan ... Dont worry you are not alone , even Bangladesh has started behaving like East Pakistan ... despite of several perks given by Indians . thanx to the s Religion of Peace and its Preaching .
Pakistan is still not realizing that it is under undeclared Indian sanctions and declared isolation campaign by India against Pakistan. 77 years of Pakistan's Kashmir policy had literally made it bankrupt but still it is not revising its Kashmir policy which is completely vague and doesn't stand against the India's narrative.
Pakistani are deeply interested in ' what happened in kargil war, who is responsible for that ' the same way we in India too are interested 'in 2002 who set the fire ball rolling '.. Now only this year it has been laid bare.... Mind you that has brought dea change in today's politics..
hmm, Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmed says Pakistani generals only do tactical thinking and no strategic thinking as if that's the real problem. Is it acceptable if they did do strategic thinking and still do Kargil adventure? Ridiculous.
In this very watchable podcast of a popular title "Kargil" , it was interesting to note the constant presence of the infamous Pakistani Military top brass in the cross-hairs. However to a question on whether things now have "improved" , Dr Ahmed responds by saying it continues to be "self destructive". He missed on the aspect of "self serving", which is the real reasons why the Pak generals continue to be mischievous. By continuing to create hostility, it can continue to maintain access to huge funds for defence expenditure, purchases of fighter jets that nobody knows how much they ought to cost etc. The grip on Pakistan's GDP by these generals is one of the highest in the world, while common Pakistani citizens shouting "Lad ke lenge Kashmir" continue to buy essential goods at three times the price across the border. Imagine Qaid-E-Azam watching this tamasha from up there !
Pak Army is the biggest Problem for Pakistan. They should be restricted to Defence mandate and not interfere in politics. Country have a Army, un Pakistan case Army has a country. Why it's so difficult for public to understand.
Dr Ahmed has been honest in his submission but this comes at a time when they haven't much alternatives especially when they are so compromised economically. Its the people of Pakistan who suffer not the ones who created the State who are no more.
Bill Clinton messaged Vajpayee to stop the war and Vajpayee replied war will not stop, until Pakistan vacates Kargil. Bill Clinton said that Pakistan has nuclear weapons and Pakistan could fire Nuclear weapons. Vajpayee replied to Bill Clinton that Pakistan may destroy about 25% of India while when India responds that it will ensure that Pakistan will not see the light of the next day
India always gave Pakistan a chance to improve but Pakistan always took advantage of it and stabbed itself in the back. Now, India does not accept friendship with Pakistan anywhere. Today, Pakistan's cricket media and public say that BCCI is not allowing Pakistan to benefit financially. Because.......it is hidden in Pakistan's history that whenever India gave it a chance, Pakistan betrayed India.
I have been told this man is a scholar. But his knowledge at best can be either called pathetic or he is speaking with his tongue in the cheek. He is telling a two time prime minister couldn't understand a briefing. Problem is an army chief cannot understand what sanctions means. NS famous words who crossed Loc when general iftikhar told him is well documented.
It really hurtens to see that the state of india and pakistan today…the armies fought and religious bigotry was instilled and today the conditions among any vlog in the pakistan shows them hating india…i believe that not only a peaceful resolution among the nations but also a brotherhood develops like a phoenix from ashes such that we both develop as nations…china might be a friend of pakistan today as it is still weak and poses no threat economically to them…vlogs shows the normal pakistani with people of other countries treat them with a warm welcome…so this shows that the people are good…just illogical brainwashing and a few generations of hatred have caused the subcontinent to break apart…may we both make sure walfare for our peoples and people’s life, education, development are the focus of our govts…may the people get more power and less corruption occurs…may we bridge our differences once and for all and leave these fights and our hatred towards the other nation
At Kargil War bet. India and Pakistan, America may have been pro Pakistan but by a year or so later (9/11/2001), American public's and Western world's attitude towards Pakistan and other Muslim countries was totally reversed. As long as Al-Qaida was attacking the Russians in Afghanistan they (Pakistanis) were welcomed as allies.
Regarding Imran khan as an Indian ..apart from his Anti india rants at UN😂 which is but natural ..he is really a fighter .. army helped him to gain power..BUT HE HAS SOME SPINE that he wanted to rule country through People's mandate and NOT THROUGH ARMY DICTUM . Perhaps someday some Pakistani analyst will do a Root Cause Analyses using Herringbone methodology. We’d be interested to know the result. When we did it, the root cause appeared after six iterations. It could not be atomised further. The root cause was “doctrinal Islam”. All these conversations reach four levels of iteration only. Hence useful, but incomplete, in our view. The reason Dr. Ishtiyaq Ahmad stops is because of innate intellectual dishonesty, and this puzzled us in the beginning. But We’ve followed his work through his excellent books and often insightful talks. We’ve written to him, noted his responses and non-responses. And the conclusion is that he is intellectually dishonest. Which is a pity because his methodological rigour is excellent. We await someone of even higher calibre in Pakistan to engage with the premise. Siddiqua and Haqqani are brilliant but have similar limitations as Dr. Ahmad. Economists like Uzair, Atif Mian and even Khurram Hussain have the intellectual honesty but seem to be focused, and rightly so, on the fiscal aspects rather than civilizational. Perhaps someday.

In ur dreams, Indian economy is credit based... India will self destruct way before that.
Watching 55 minutes without skip. Very interesting and knowledgeable interview.
I 100% agree with your statement...it was a planned strategy that backfired....and was not an impulsive one
Nailed it
Hey Shayan,
Great work.
Good Luck.
Same is on Indian side they created a lot of lies which Indians wholeheartedly believe.
Ishtiaq being a Papistani, he talks only about Papistani benefits. He does not admit that India gave MFN status to Papistan but even after several years, this favor was not reciprocated.

Proud of Indian armed forces. They don't feel afraid to put their lives online to protect their country and its sovereignty.
What is the solution now sir? That must be discussed, for the younger Pakistanis.
From India We love all the world love human being love Pakistan parents sisters brothers long life long live brotherhood ❤ friendship relations with Pakistan people are original brothers parents sisters peacefully life
You are living in a fools paradise . Pakistan has not only maintained an external enmities but also spoiled the minds of many radical Muslims in India . The Jihadi mentality you are seeing in India has its origin and support from Pakistan. Let them live in their world and not think of any friendship with us .
Dr sahib bold and honest
Naseem Zehra, a Papistani journalist, has written a detailed book after interviewing hundreds of officers of Army officers. Suggestion for Ishtiaq: plz read that book. Some of your concepts shall be cleared.

A brilliant presentation , as usual , by Dr Ishtiaq Ahmed.. on Kargil -1999 .
Jio aur jine do. this is hindu philosophy about all creatures.
Convert, Kill or be killed is their philosophy

77 years of Pakistan's Kashmir policy had literally made it bankrupt but still it is not revising its Kashmir policy which is completely vague and doesn't stand against the India's narrative.
hard to get a word in with Doctor Ahmed. 😊
Pakistani are deeply interested in ' what happened in kargil war, who is responsible for that ' the same way we in India too are interested 'in 2002 who set the fire ball rolling '.. Now only this year it has been laid bare.... Mind you that has brought dea change in today's politics..
#05:00 Sir, india Tested Nuke on may 11-13 of 1998 not on 1992 .
By mistake ***
Slip of tongue
I wonder how Pak people can support their army when they refused to take the dead bodies of soldiers back during Kargil..what a shame
Musharraf also was presented with beheaded soldiers heads.
hmm, Dr. Ishtiaq Ahmed says Pakistani generals only do tactical thinking and no strategic thinking as if that's the real problem. Is it acceptable if they did do strategic thinking and still do Kargil adventure? Ridiculous.
Loved the content ❤
Why it's so difficult for public to understand.
pakistan k sabse samjhdar aur rational sochne wala insaan. agar inke tarah sab soche in pakistan to india and pakistan me border hi nahi rahega.
Brilliant analysis by Dr Istiaq Ahmed. His understanding and judicious narrative can be used as reference. Hope people lesrn.😊
Vajpayee replied to Bill Clinton that Pakistan may destroy about 25% of India while when India responds that it will ensure that Pakistan will not see the light of the next day
That call was tapped by India and not the China or US..

The mic setup should have been better… sir has good knowledge of how pak army works…
Hamudur Rehman Commission Report should public and punished all of Responsibles under article 6.
How a single general held his own country at Ransom
INDEED he could be a turning point for pakistan..

Pakistan should realise that India has a, "no first use" policy.
Miscalculation or hypocrisy ? Honoring the words or sabotage ? Truth or bag of lies ?
That's Pakistan for you...
I disagree with Dr. about India being wrong on nuclear weapons. Had India not had nuclear weapons, China would have walked over India.
