- In this video I discuss the features of the new M2 iPad air that Apple announced at their ipad event on May 7. Overall, it was an incremental update that doesn't provide any significant changes. But there are still some reasons to consider it over the Air 5 or the iPad 10th gen.

Great review
Appreciate it!
Anyone looking for taking notes as a student should go for 13 inch iPad Air without a tad bit of doubt.
Great breakdown
Thank you!
New M2 512 11 model just arrived. My previous model was two generations ago. Picked up a screen scratch 2 months ago. So it was decided!
Nice! Enjoy your new devive
Nice and informative breakdown! I just think it’s kind of insane that my 2018 Pro 11” has more features than the 2024 Air. The 2024 Air should 100% be an upgrade to a device that is now 6 years old. If I want a larger screen size and want a device that is no more than 2 years old, I’ll have to buy a £1100 2022 Pro, to get at least the same features I had before, or buy a £800 Air and actually lose features. I’ve never felt this way in 19 years of being an Apple user. There has always been an upgrade that made sense. From an iPhone 5 to an SE. From the SE to a 12 mini. However after these announcements, I’m left thinking ‘where do I go from here?’ Surely, the planning at Apple should involve imagining users of every single iPad from the last 10 years let’s say. You’d plot them out and make sure that each user had at least two options. The first option would be for people whose use cases haven’t really changed that much. To these people you give performance improvements and update the design of the devices a bit and let them use the core new software features. These people just need something that will let them continue what they’re doing for another 7 years or so. They should pay a sum pretty close to what they paid last time around. The second option would be for people whose use cases have changed quite a bit. Maybe they now do lots more video editing and so need the processing power of a Pro iPad. They get everything they had before, but they get significantly more power, screen resolution etc. It’s reasonable to expect these users to pay a decent amount more than what they spent on the last device.
There should never be a downgrade as an option. I think the least we can expect is that when we come to upgrade we’re getting at the very least 100% of the capabilities our previous devices had, plus some degree of new stuff.
Sorry rant over!
Which main features in the 2018 pro are you noticing that are missing on the 2024 air? Looking at it briefly I see the 120Hz display which to me does matter. 6 years is a lot of time in technology years so it is crazy to me that there are some things missing in an $800 device
@@BBTechBreakdown exactly! Yeah plus no FaceID, 2018 has four speaker audio and five microphones.
In Apple's reasoning it only has to be an upgrade to the previous air line, which it is, so it's tempting new users and those upgrading from older air and standard models, though probably not the air 5. They are supposing that most pro users will stay pro and not downgrade to an air. I have never had a pro, though I've used one, so I can imagine that once you go pro, it's difficult to go back.
@@Therejectionartist yes I think if they use that reasoning, then what they’ve released works. I do however think a company as advanced and stable as Apple though should not stick so tightly to this sort of reasoning. I think for a young technology company launching a series of headphones let’s say, it makes sense to have an entry level model, an intermediate model and a pro model. For Apple though, who can afford to take risks and whose customers are decades long users by this point and know exactly what they want, I think it would be better if they had more flexibility. They should facilitate downgrades, because they should, at this point, have the confidence to know that a downgrade might not mean they get less money out of me at my next device refresh point. As in, make it straightforward for me to downgrade from a Pro to an Air, because I might actually swap a 64gb Pro for a 1TB Air. Apple then wouldn’t be getting a reduced amount of money from me. To be honest, I’ve usually found that Apple offers this kind of flexibility on all other occasions they’ve upgraded their device line-ups, except this one
I purchased the new 11" iPad Air, so my Mrs could have my Air 4th generation. Comparing them, other than the speed it will load a page, I can't say there is a lot of difference. Now I know there will be little things you will notice over time, maybe when I get to Spain it will pick up the Coffee Nutz wifi better while up in our apartment. Very proffesional review, I almost feel embarrassed with the amount of subscribers I have after watching this. Best Dave
Thanks for watching and the thoughtful comment! Just started the channel last month so hopefully I can get some more subs soon
Yea I wouldn't expect most people performing basic tasks on an iPad Air 4 and the new iPad Air to notice much of a difference since the iPad Air 4 is still plenty powerful enough for daily tasks. The biggest change between them was the introduction of Apple's very powerful M1 chip (along with some other minor additions such as 5G and camera improvements).
You can use all the pro apps on this and not the 10th gen
Which apps are you referring to? That would be a good plus side along with the nice power
Well the got 128 gig instead of 64gig
Yea the increased storage along with extra updates is worth it for many users to choose the M2 iPad over the air 5 if coming from an older model
@@BBTechBreakdown I traded in my air 5 256 I bought last my for the IPad Pro 13
@@game2572 how has the new pro been? Looks like a great device and I'm sure the larger screen is nice
@@BBTechBreakdown The Larger screen is nice.
You’re looking for iPad Pro features in an iPad Air…
Why would 120Hz be a "pro" feature though for a minimum $600 device? Many cheaper devices have it
@@BBTechBreakdown On iPads it’s a pro feature. Always been like that. So yes, you can hope for certain features on lower end devices but Apple is Apple. You just have to pay for pro features. But despite that fact i still love their devices. For my usecases there’s still nothing that can beat the iPad Pro. But for a lot of other usecases any tablet would do just fine.
Yea the iPad is still a great device, certainly the most powerful tablet (even tho I don't personally prefer their OS). What do you mainly your iPad for?
@@BBTechBreakdown Music production, video editing and photo editing. And of course for media consumption and browsing the web. The music apps on IOS are unmatched!
Not worth it. Bought it at target and used it for a day didn’t see a difference so I returned it😂
Lol which one were you upgrading from and what's your use case?
@@BBTechBreakdown I was upgrading from the air 5. I thought it was gonna be worth it. I should have done my research more before purchasing it
@@supinthiam5741 yea, that's good you were able to get a refund though
