I have never seen anyone who understands rock/ metal like Justin Hawkins. He knows when to be serious, when to be self-deprecating. He knows when to be heavy, when to be melodic and balances all the necessary ingredients with perfect grace. Absolutely unrivaled. I would give anything to watch Freddie Mercury listen to the Darkness for the first time.
Justin Hawkins is the last real rock star
Mercury would have loved this.
@@blakeshadow5760 I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING. FREDDIE MERCURY WOULD'VE BEEN ALL OVER THIS.
🥰👍
Very interesting comment.
Brilliant comment John, I'm sure he's having a smirk up there and rocking out
Last week I asked my son to come over to help me move some heavy items from the basement…anyway, I heard him singing under his breath…”children, we are the last of our kind.” I was floored. I asked him why he was singing it and he said “it’s one of the songs I remember you playing (I actually played the whole cd nonstop) all the time and it reminds me of some of my favorite times when I was growing up. 😢
It shocks me because that was a time I was really struggling as a single parent to pay the bills and keep food in the house. To know that it was one of his favorite times validates that I was doing something right. All three of my kids love The Darkness and that was one year y’all really got us through some rough times.
Good Music does that! Good parenting too! Cheers!
Nobody has written songs this iconic and powerful since Queen.
You should listen to Blind Guardian. Their lead singer has the same vocal range that Freddie had, and they even named one of their albums in honour of Queen.
Completely agree and very well put. Although not sure about the "Blind Guardian" comment, two completely different bands....can't hear the similarity myself.
🤣
Comparing Blind Guardian to Queen is like saying Dream Theater sounds like Aerosmith. Listen to other bands, get out of the prog-space for a couple hours.
@@matthewshelley1365 Your opinion is your own.
Freddie Mercury smileing from heaven :)))
Yeah heaven lol that's where he went I'm sure
A.Požar smiling
My thoughts exactly!
@@Kingofold2112 same here! Justin is the Freddie of our generation! I would LOVE hearing the Darkness cover Bohemian Rhapsody! Justin would really nail the guitar solos and falsetto parts!
The vocals, yeah I see it.
The style he's going for, the dance moves are straight up "The Idiot" era Iggy Pop. And that's not a bad thing.
I'm so happy to be a part of this, insane opportunity. My name is Chelsea, I'm the girl in the black catsuit. I'm still speechless, it's beautiful!
nope, dont see you
She's literally the woman on the far right at the beginning of the video.
I don't think that qualifies as a "Catsuit"
Yay Chelsea! Hey, Chelsea knows whether it was a catsuit or not. Especially when she goes to the bathroom, lol Looks like a catsuit with a belt thrown over it to me. If you've never worn one before, as a woman, you're in for a treat, when you go to the bathroom, you're basically naked. I have a hilarious story about a white catsuit, no bra, an outdoor Southern California keg party(1985) where I drank tons of beer, then had to pee like a racehorse! In a Field... So no one would see my boobs. There were foxtails all around me. When I pulled the catsuit back up, it was lined on the inside with prickly, poky foxtails. LOL! Got all scratched up by morning. But I partied on because, I AM THE LAST OF MY KIND! Go Chelsea!!! (P.S. This is my Google account that my daughter has taken over, I'm not really a unicorn, for shame.)
Lucky girl!!!…brilliant vid!!!……❤️❤️🎸🎸🤘🤘
This is a masterpiece. This stuff is infinite. What a riff, what a vocal part and lyrics, what a guitar solo, what a voice, what a genius. One of the last rock band that deserves to be classified as real Rock Band nowadays
I am so happy to be a part of this! Beautiful band and beautiful music.
Yes. Stripey trousers!
Joannether its a very cool video, loving the pants aswell :)
Joannether Stripey trousers are a great thing :P
Joannether Great stuff!...you're lookin' mighty cool there Joanne. :¬) Just out of interest...where was this shot then?
Joannether Nice moves! You seemed a little shy in the beginning but with the sunglasses on you really shook it like a lettuce leaf!:D And Justin should've used the stripey catsuit to match you and others ^_^
I will never understand why this song didn’t take off as one of their most popular. It’s so anthemic. I wish they played it live. I’d pay stupid money for them to whack it in the setlist
Am I the only one who understand this song as "We are the last Decent Rock band of this generation?"
yuup
+Necra Monium The Struts. All I'm gonna say.
+Riley Banks never heard of them...
+Riley Banks Looked them up, they are alright... :) I will look into them a bit more...
+Riley Banks The more I look up the more sticky they look :/
"All the jackals and the undead just can't wait to wipe the last of us out
Once there were others like us then there were none
Late at night while the world is sleeping I can hear the call of my kin
They wait for me and when I join them we will be forgotten"
some of the most poetic and sad I've ever heard in a song
The Darkness are my happy place.
Lyrics:
We have sat like this just waiting for their arrows to blacken the skies
Many times before and we will again... God willing
I am honoured to have served alongside men who inspire defiance
Sometimes I tire of the fighting and the killing
We are survivors
The ones left behind
Defenders of the legacy
The last of our kind
Children
We are the last of our kind
Children
We are the last of our kind
When the arrows fall like rain
We'll start and rise again
We are the last of our kind
All the jackals and the undead just can't wait to wipe the last of us out
Once there were others like us then there were none
Late at night while the world is sleeping I can hear the call of my kin
They wait for me and when I join them we will be forgotten
We are survivors
The ones left behind
Defenders of the legacy
The last of our kind
Children
We are the last of our kind
Children
We are the last of our kind
When the arrows fall like rain
We'll start and rise again
We are the last of our kind
Children
We are the last of our kind
Children
We are the last of our kind
When the arrows fall like rain
We'll start and rise again
We are the last of our kind
You're welcome
Upvote!!!!
Thankyou for this 💛
I am 68,had 2 massive heart attacks, came home found this music worth coming back for
This band is great 🥳🥳🥳
When I listen to their music I feel like I'm living the best years of my life in a few minutes. ❤️
KALEIDO jess exactly.
I agree
Wow! Same here.
Same!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well said!
Whoever the dude is who takes his shirt off, I hope he shows this to his grandchildren. Legend.
he need to be in more music videos
they sound like no one. that's what makes them special.
Lost touch with The Darkness after the third album......but catching up with everything I have missed this track is absolutely and utterly fantastic.
Lol my mom didn't want me to listen to this band when I was young because of the language but every time I was with my dad we would play it loud like fuck in the car hahaha... Keep playing that rock! Now I am going to see acdc
Haha I had that too, she actually brought me the album and then took it back after she heard the language, needless to say I went and brought it the fuck back afterwards.
1988Carlsberg Hahaha nice to hear I am not the only one XD.
How old are you 13?
+Mad Sam My Aunt got me permission to land when It came out my mum liked it but didn't like the swearing but man my dad fucking hated this band
Mega ducK Wow hard life.
One of my favourite clips. This band are a national treasure and are a joy to see live.
Going to see them tomorrow night in Philly on their nearly sold out US tour. Can't wait!
Iron Maiden, Def Leppard, Mark Knopfler, Bob Dylan, Joe Satriani, Black Star Riders, Europe, Michael Schenker's Temple of Rock, UFO, Scorpions, Neil Young, Jeff Beck, Van Halen, Toto, Hollywood Vampires, Chris Cornell, David Gilmour and offcourse The Darkness has released a new studioalbum or a live-album this year. I am very glad these "old guys" aer still around!
which is hilarious as The Darkness has opened for Lady Gaga
That somehow makes sense in a perverted way.
Georg Hägglund dont Forget Pearl Jam!!
Reading this comment 8 years later, after sooo many legends lost their lives, hurts a lot.
"We are the last of our kind", indeed.
This is the Golden era of The Darkness - The greatest band on the planet at their very best.
Welcome to The Darkness : Rufus Taylor !
indeed!
Yes welcome ru
And I gotta admit, he's kinda cute
Rufus is a drummer, and his father was the drummer of Queen
I am a drummer... like my father before me.
Damn this dude can still sing like a god
Callum Scott if you think this is good, listen to mighty wings
I’m certain this guy can somewhat be like Freddie Mercury.... but no one can be like Freddie...
@@glitchy_boi1461 this is way better than Freddie. The guy is a great frontman (same as FM), but he’s lead guitarist and, above all, can do a whole concert SINGING. When Queen played live they had to dropped the songs, and Mercury simply can’t do a full concert at full power.
I have to say......this is my favorite Darkness song.
Rufus stares in awe at the mad circus arround him 3:11 LOL
The spirit of Freddie Mercury was strong in that stage
There are so many good Darkness songs but this might be my favorite. It's so melodic and really brings me back to my happy place growing up in the 80's. I swear to God if you close your eyes and just listen to the solo it's so remensicent of Vito Brata. It's just fun music and I love it.
Cheers Boys! One of my favorites! Being authentic makes you the last of our kind!
Hope in music restored. We won't be the last of our kind!
The Darkness bring me such joy
I remember getting ready for school in the morning with my brother and sister watching MTV and I Believe in a thing Called Love would come on (yes, this was the early 2000s when MTV was still music television) and we'd all stop what we were doing and jam out.
Some of my favorite memories ❤
I FUCKING LOVE THE DARKNESS
Same :D
Luci Gee me too!
Emma Gillespie Nice profile picture btw
Thanks, it's Dan
I FUCKING LOVE THEM TOO
this guitar solo is like gold in my ears ! and solo from open fire , great, album
Great band, song and video… their latest album is pure rockin' genius!
2:16 oh Rufus, you're so cute ❤
This is fantastic! What an amazing song and video. I just tried to sing along to the high part (failed miserably) and my head nearly exploded. Justin's vocals are outrageous. What a banger!
Still my favourite Darkness album. Some unreal tracks on it. That opening salvo of Barbarian, Open Fire and then this alone cements it.
I feel like this is what it would sound like if Freddie Mercury sang for Van Halen.
Now, this is GREAT Music.
+agsozero poor attempt at trolling 😂
Well The Darkness did open for Lady Gaga once, sooo
I'm still sad Emily Davies didn't stick around longer, but let's face it, you couldn't find a better replacement drummer for The Darkness than the son of Roger Taylor from Queen.
JamesOhGoodie i didn't know that awesome. need joint tour then
Roger’s blood must pass on! Including Brian’s and John’s.. .
Freddie, unfortunately can’t cause he chose to be unique!
Emily's a great drummer, but Rufus is a force. He propelled them to a new level.
Emily who? Didn't they use a drum machine for the album? ....... ;)
She was their only female member.
Watched the Darkness last Friday in Malta. I am a big fan!!! Love the band!
Jeez Justin, you look like Freddie in '91...
Nikola Todorovic My exact thought.
Nikola Todorovic so it's not just me thinking it :') and SpiritMolecule1 yes he isn't even close to the same league as Freddie, but physically he doesn't look right here :S
SpiritMolecule1 well the drummers old man sure loved it sugarplum x
SpiritMolecule1 Calling him talentless is absurd. Jealous much?
Nikola Todorovic He's looking like Marilyn Mason
The new album is fantastic - the soundtrack of my summer of 2015.
I love their great sense of humor, but they are really a kick-ass rock band.
Best live band I've seen in years, going again in October, can't wait.
The onliest modern band which can be compared with The Queen
yes :)
Uh, it's Queen, not "The Queen".
+Nat Hawk XD
+Nat Hawk I was wondering if that's what they meant. I've never heard of the queen lol.
+dustin forbes It's like when someone writes FreddY instead of FreddIE
I was in this video! I got my back up against the record machine. I ain't the worst you've seen.
I really need to support this group and come see them when they come around.
+shaolinlueb just thinking the same thing
+shaolinlueb If you're in the US they just announced more tour dates. Don't miss 'em! Trust me!
I've seen a lot of shows, but put it this way, the two times I've seen The Darkness were better than Megadeth & Iron Maiden in Nashville a few years ago. That says a lot. If TD is near you or far away, don't miss out on the chance to see them!
Ok that's just a damn good rocking song.
Actually, after watching this about 20 times in a row, this is my single of the year--both song and video. The video is absolute genius.
Loving this tune! The Darkness are a cracking band. Seen them at Leicester O2 Academy a couple of years ago, they played permission to land start to finish. Needless to say it was a great night. Genuine British rock royalty imo :)
Emily did a great job on this record but Rufus is the perfect addition. A great new record from the best band in the universe. I never get tired of these guys.
Is it Rufus in this music video?
Love this band, such an underrated band
Time to revive Rock 'n' Roll!
The guy they cut to in the center that tries to hold it in, but absolutely loses himself in the music is my spirit animal.
Awesome!!!!! Great video and great track. The dancing fat man is the best thing I've ever seen, I love him.
Matias Merçeauroix That dancing fat man is me! Thank you Matias! (I'm on twitter- @mistermarkjones)
Great moves there Mark! particularly like the vest fling and 'where's it gone? ?' reaction. Brilliant. Decent song too smashing to see the darkness back on form
+Mark Jones Mark you bloody legend, you make the music video like 10 times better with your brilliant dancing
My ideal body type would be somewhere between him and Justins.
His dancing get anyone else in the mood.... for some sweet, slow cantankerous love?
Repeat this masterpiece I just found! 🇬🇧🤟🏻
You'd be an idiot not to love this song. The Darkness is amazing. THEY ARE THE LAST OF THEIR KIND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
surfvolcom BTW I have watched this at least 8 times and I am so amped that they are still making this kind of awesome music.
As a printer who works with paper I can relate.
It makes me really happy that he still has the outfit he's wearing during the solo! Bring it back to the live shows for a massive hit of nostalgia please!
I'm think I found a new love and her name is the darkness
I'm going slightly mad!! Beautiful stuff like ever!
Everything these men do makes me smile.
2:06 Dan Hawkins it seems Brian May...Great song!!!
André Ervin Dan!
Such a fucking good song
And by the way, Rufus is HANDSOME!
Ryan Lewis He is, isn't he?
Yes, yes he is.
He is indeed!
Takes AFTER his dad!
The Darkness are the Byzantium of music.
Everytime I hear someone says: "Oh, this singer sounds like Freddie Mercury" I always do not agree, because Freddie is unique and no one can be compared to him.. Except for Justin Hawkins: he his the only one IN THE WHOLE UNIVERSE that can be compared to Freddie! Love both Darkness and Queen
He's like mixing Freddie mercury with Roger Taylor. And then more...
I'd be more inclined to put Justin Hawkins and Robert Plant in a more similar category. I don't think of Freddie with his vocals for some reason. Certain guitar tuning, yes.
He’s more like Freddie than Adam Lambert I think.
Have a listen to Edie by The Cult:
ruclips.net/video/5oRwlSIn918/видео.html
Gorgeous solo, go Dan Hawkins! Meanwhile Justin channels his inner Freddie lol! rock on lads
They deserves so much more...
Long live The Darkness!
i love the darkness and electric six!!!!
both brilliant under rated bands!!!
I haven't played The Darkness in awhile. This song rocks!
Bowie, Mercury, Trick, a little Def...what else could you want from a band so amazing? They make it seem so amazing and effortless. I thank the Gods of Rock for this album, anything they touch turns to sex.
Thin Lizzy too....
Their music will stay on forever !
My son showed me this band love the sound and showmanship reminds me of queen
This guitar solo is sick. For some reason Eddie Van Halen came to my mind.
Guys, i really love you, thank you for everything
this song rumples me with '80s nostalgia !! takes me back to seeing Rocky4 in Guildford odeon & cheering.. Could keep going... Brilliant, olde style... thank you TD xx
God I love The Darkness. 7 years on and this album is one of my favourites and this song...well it's an absolute banger that I have on repeat. Freakin awesome live.
I love the message about all the kinds of survivors we have on this planet. like, the lyrics match perfectly with the images in some moments and this music just makes me so happy!
Oh my gawd! I just re-fell in love with the Darkness.
Is it just me or does Justin remind anyone else of a young Bowie (rip)?
Oh, totally. He's a fucking sex god.
+RioMadeira he oozes sex appeal!! good God!!
+agsozero how does that apply to admiring perfection? ahaha
Quarter of a century....old enough I'd say.
He looks more like an AIDS-ridden Freddie Mercury in this video. It's uncanny.
Every Darkness song is some kinda magical experience. This one especially.
Such a hype chorus
I'm glad they're back, it was a lot of time I wasn't listening rock music.... until now :)
I really can't explain how much I love The Darkness.
lo mejor después de queen ...... los amo .... saludos desdé CHILE ......
The fact that this song comes after Open Fire and still holds its own is a testament to its excellence.
Some of the best dancing I’ve seen in a video. Great job everyone!
Still one of absolute favourite songs and videos 🤩😍
I've said it before. I'll say it again. This track is a masterpiece!
Greatest band of all time. Absolutely no doubt. Never once have I been even the slightest bit disappointed by The Fuckin' Darkness!
You are a tosspot right?
dave8386 well put, I agree everything from albums to b-sides have been awesome
I was very fortunate to see these guys live at a small venue in Sydney Australia , they are one of the best live bands getting around !
The Darkness just flat out rocks. Great rock is in short supply...
Justin channels Bowie here. I love it. And maybe a little Siouxie too.
I didn’t expect the chubby guy to take his shirt off, but his sexy moves were the highlight of my day, and possibly my year
Damn this song never gets old
Best rock band ever!!! I play these guys songs on my acoustic daily because the songs are so uplifting and a joy to play. I sincerely hope that Rufus stays with the band as they are absolutely smashing it at the moment - I dearly love the first three albums but L.O.O.K somehow manages to raise the bar even higher!
This is the best music to hear when checking your car's top speed. I actually think my car goes faster when Darkness is on the radio
i love these kind of videos, that involve their fans.
My heartbeat goes bananas when minute 2:34 hits.. fucking in love… 🫀😍
Love this song
The Darkness simply amazing band. Thank you for bringing ROCK back!! Keep Rockin' Guys!!
This is a superb video and song, this latest album is their best by a country mile!
Yeah we are
