Is there any way to get past freezing when the ball is hit towards you? I make all the plays in practice, but when the game happens, and the ball is hit, I freeze up. I try not to think about it, because the tougher plays, ones where I have to bust my ass to get to them, I don't have time to think, and I make the plays. But the routine ones still get me sometimes
I’d say ask for a runner a fast one gave the coach hit and the runner run down the line... that way he’s already running as your fielding “... puts pressure on you and eventually will help slow the game down because you’ve eliminated the aspect of having to get out of the box so I’m game when a hitter has to get out of the box you’ll be able to slow the game down easier
How old are you and what position do you play? A lot of times players sit and wait for the ball to come to them when in a lot of cases they can charge to the ball. It kind if sounds to me like you are getting stuck which is my term for flat footed. You should have an approach routine for every pitch and it should be the same. Coach Antonelli has several fielding videos that he talks directly about players approaches to their ready position. Those might help you to get out of the freezing up and just reacting to the play.
I'm a sophomore in high school and am looking for some advice. I want to be a 2nd basemen, I hit like a 2nd basemen but I know my defensive strength is in the corner outfield. I don't know if I should focus on playing the corner outfield or work harder to play 2nd, what do you think Matt?
