Hi Matt, Just watched this video breakdown for the first time. Have you been at some of my practices? I'm sending this to my team. They're going to accuse me of stealing from you. Hopefully, it helps them by hearing that your terminology and key words are almost identical to what I've been teaching them. Great stuff. Thanks for helping teach all of us with your videos.
do this tips work for all positions? or is there are better way you can attack the ball depending on position. this is what i do currently and find it works but feel like for 3rd base it may be slightly different to short stop
When your feeling the ball in the infield do you have to throw an actual fourseam to first or any other base or can you just have a fourseam grip on the ball but not with the laces lining up and throw it?
i never worry about laces. if it is wet then try to grip the seams, but if you throw hard and have a good release point it shouldnt matter about seams. at third i like to do a pump (take ball out of glove, then put it back in to get the grip, then separate hands and throw) if it is wet. when taking the ball out of my glove i normally feel the ball for any part of the seams so i know i have it good. if i am throwing side arm i have to hook the seams. imagine the where you see twos seams going horizontally, i hook two fingers on the bottom seam, and get 3 fingers and thumb on the ball when wet. just depends on position and how you throw
When you're presenting the glove, is your glove hand just hanging limply or are you spreading your fingers wide to open up the pocket as much as possible? How much tension should there be in your fingers and hand when fielding the ball?
baez is okay. but if you want to review a great player, you should review a platinum glove - Arenado. In my opinion 3rd base(hot corner) is the best and most challenging position in the infield. Idk about you guys but i enjoy the long throw in the infield (The rush when the ball is hit to you and your arm depends if the runner's out since 3rd base you gotta have a fast reaction, a gun and accuracy). Arenado makes it look easy! making plays from his knees 130+ft away! With no hops either! just straight arm gas to the 1st basemen! please review his mechanics
Matt, is there anything to a fielder dragging his throwing foot(in this case right foot)when releasing ball to stay balance on throwing? I have seen some infielders do this. Reason?
I think it was hit so slow that he should have charged it and scooped it. Seemed like the batter didn’t give much effort running or he would have been safe. Maybe he saw that the batter was lallygagging out of the box and decided to get in front of it though. That is the type of shit that gains and loses fans. A nice charging close play at first or a routine play with the batter jogging down the line. That is baseball’s #1 problem. Lack of effort. Fans don’t want to hear about a long 162 game schedule blah blah. They are there for THAT game. They deserve to see 100% effort. Guys have guaranteed contracts and they are not playing hard. Kind of funny that the guys that don’t seem to play harder. I wouldn’t give anyone more than a 4 year contract. Got kids from the farm that will outplay them.
It’s easier to make an error scooping it, as he can only use one hand(glove). Any bad hop, he has his bare hand to help it in the glove Javy used both hands to collect the ball and fire it. A
I feel like I should be paying for this. Thanks Matt

This is one of the best instruction videos I’ve ever seen and you explanations are clear and exact. Thank You
Thank you Matt! Needed this!
Growing up I was taught the same way which is to around the ball as u charge it. Great vid Matt

Great vid really breaking down mechanics. Thank you
Could you do some videos on college recruiting for d2-3and or 60 dash
I'd love you to do Andruw Jones' fielding breakdown. Thanks for the continued content, Matt!
Incredible breakdown. Love this. Thank you.
“Right-left-pickup, right-left-throw”. I like your “left ear” idea.
Thanks matt. Gonna study this over and over
Very nice video Matt, I needed it.
I'm loving all the tips. Many thanks for the videos.
This is incredible content. Can't thank you enough and I'm only halfway through the video

Ideal would be 4 seam but doesn’t always happen.
@@cjr1881 That's what I thought but I wasn't really sure

It seems like I'm seeing a lot of videos like Ron Washington where they are pushing through the ball quite a bit. Is that just for certain situations?
Keep it up, Matt
My wife was repeatedly saying "Let him catch the ball". Hahaha
Ch Ad nope lol
Lol 😂
Hi. Do you have a video of a MLB Second Baseman making the same play ? With footwork. I wanna show my son. Thx
It's the little things. ... I love this stuff... ♡☆
I’ve heard bend at the knees not at the waist many times and I see Javier Biaz doing both. is saying bend at the knees not at the waist a misnomer?
Matt could you do a baez throwing motion its for my son
I feel like if I "go around" the ball, then I am not in front of it to block it with my body in case I miss it. Am I wrong?
Awesome video
Hey Matt you got anything for first baseman
Great content keep it up

Yeah I think there is something to that.
Ok I’ve seen it happen prior to fielding the ball
Yo Matt are you in any of the older MLB video games? Like the show 08 or 09?
Mlb 2k9 I know. 60 overall
@@olliniemela4025 Oof 🤣 I mean that's pretty sick tho
Dude thanks for the awesome videp
Do Francisco lindor next and yadier Molina please
Can't tell who is at the plate but looks like he's doggin' it out of the box ...
Im pretty sure it was chase anderson a pitcher
you are awesome Matt butt show the play dude
That's how you do it!
At no time is he “pushing” his arms through up. Folks who say this are wrong. You should move through using feet and receive the ball.
Javier Baez baby
Wish u were my coach Matt
Right left field LFG!!
Did anyone notice that RUclips changed the format?
What format?
Mike H. The comments are at the top now.

Watching this gave me anxiety.. you go back n forth waaaaaay too much!!
His technique is perfect.
Turn Two
Did a half circle and then had to gun it when the batter wasn’t running hard. That is far from perfect.
@@cjr1881 it was a slow roller. Not as easy a play as it looks. Get a clue.
Turn Two
It should have been harder. I made a comment about the batter not running hard so he probably saw that and decided to get in front of it.
@@cjr1881 now that I agree with.
