I agree on 'gentle goals'. Lots push for these unreasonable goals and then reading becomes a challenge and a chore and not fun. Reading is for fun! My goal for 2024 was 52 books. I've just read my 100th book. If I get to 104 I'll have doubled my goal so awesome, but if I don't reach it, it's allgood. Hello from New Zealand 👋 and I couldn't tell if we were coloured in (cause bad eyes 😕) but my daughter loves Ngaio Marsh (like Agatha Christie) and Catherine Chigdey is an author I want to read, as she's popular and writes weird-ish books 😁
Yeah it’s not fun anymore if you’re stressed out trying to achieve an unattainable goal! I didn’t know Catherine Chigdey is from NZ! I own a copy of “Pet”, now I have to read it next year!! Thanks for the info 🤩
I read 249 books this year! I read mostly thrillers! ☺ I never actually set a goal though because I want to enjoy reading, not feel pressure. I think reading is great regardless of the amount you read!
Hi Kari! Greetings from Hungary! I love your idea about keeping your reading goal reasonable, and only increasing it by 5 book annually. I feel like I am in a big transition period regarding my reading life, and my goals for 2025 show that. My reading goal was 120 books for 2024, I am at book 135 right now, so I could go for 130, I guess for 2025, but I will keep it at 120. Here are the reasons why. For years I only read e-books (because of arthritis I could not hold hardbacks) but now that my hands are doing better, I rediscovered the joy of reading hardbacks. And I also started annotating. My first book annotated was Babel and I had a BLAST!! So now I can not wait to annotate more books. I am rambling sorry!! Okay.... my goals for 2025! Read 120 books, Read more hardbacks, Annotate More Books, Quality over Quantity, Start a reading journal, read 3 classics and read at least 1 book nominated for a prize (Booker or Womens Fiction.) Love xxx
I love your goals!! As a professional translator (from English to French) and also a writer, I can tell you that before a book gets translated, it needs to achieve a rather high level of success in its original language. It might explain why it appeals to a certain readership…books that “fail” don’t usually get translated - in English, because the market is huge, even terrible books offen achieve commercial success 🫢
Awesome goals. Awesome video. Love from Egypt 🇪🇬❤️❤️

That’s so fun that you rediscovered the joy of reading hardbacks, I love that! And your goals are great ones, good luck with them!! 💖
Whats the Brazilian book your read in 2024? 😊
“Crooked Plow” by Itamar Viera Junior!

That makes sense!!
