Just got the DLCs which were on sale and installed the base game. This week, I'm gonna start learning it, and take my war crimes to the next level.
Overlord is not on sale, shame it's the only DLC I'm missing, but with really bad reviews, I don't feel like buying full price. Also I heard some very bad news about Overlord breaking the game balance for the AI - basically end game being 2 - 3 empires vassalizing all others
I tried it but I lost
This does not work anymore. Dragon comes in to medium range now and destroys your station and home planet
I'm pretty sure Montu already proved that the new meta is to not build a fleet at all, and instead solely build space stations and pray they work 🙏
Lol
actually, if you take the dragon and fight space creatures you can expand the army pretty quickly and boost your research at the cost of some food. up my dragon fleet by 10k
Finally, Fanatic Spiritualists can pray their way to victory
Bro you should add in the intro or top comment that if you're playing on console cordysyptic drones isn't out yet.
not gonna lie - my latest game I was panic bilding stations and def. plantforms XD
Congratulations. You’ve turned your next PvP game into an interstellar Pokémon match.
gotta reanimate them all
Once a voidspawn spawned next to my empire. I killed it with the dragon, reanimated and got double the fleet power before midgame.
"You should be our vassal. We have a dragon."
targaryens like this.
Incredibly bold to throw this video up right after announcing the PvP multiplayer game, but I'm super excited to see the new changes in full action and see what the navies are gonna look like!
One of the reasons this video got made on patch day was to make sure everyone know about the build for the qualifiers of the tournament to either play or counter it.
@@Jernsaxe exactlyits bait oh yes this is super overpowered (if it works and the dragon doesnt yeet your base because you did it wrong and cripple you) please dont use this in the upcoming tournament no no i totally dont have a counter for it
This build was made on tournament back when Here Be Dragons was just added. The only change here is that Hivemind got reanimators and also gives a 50% weapons boost. So MP community is well aware what happens when somebody takes HBD with reanimators...
I have this buildin a multilayer game, but with progenitor origin, and I got the tiyanki matriarch early and used it to peacefully vassalize my corner of thgalaxy, whole hunting down any organics I can find. Tiyana vek is held my my unvassalized neighbor.I do hope there's a sea dragon in this campaign
Isn' the origin banned most of the time anyway?
Me: Starts building ships to destroy crystals by 2230
Montu: Where's the fallen empire
The Undead Dragon is actually a part of the Scourge roleplay, because Sindragosa.
If you start near the Tiyanki spawning system soon as your first five year fleet spawns you can use it to eat all it's brothers and build a 200k doomstack. Although you'll go -2k food pretty quick.
One small tweak to dragon AI behavior and this will be nerfed hard. Seems like an oversight. Dragon should get in close instead of maintaining max range, until all fighter structures dead; then retreat to max range for bombardment once it truly outranges hostiles
not sure how to code this efficiently but the best algorithm I can think of to calculate desired range would be to try to maximize the ratio of (damage dealt):(damage received). this can be calculated by combining all the enemy weapons into one list that gives expected damage dealt at a given range. then compare that to the ships own damage vs range list to find the optimal range to conduct combat.
Titans have the same problem.
@@roboticgamer8990 or possibly change their max range during the cooldown period.
@@roboticgamer8990 wat. that seem massively complicate and arbitrary for just finding the engagement distance
It's simpler to just give a ton of flak to the Dragon.
Oh yeah, this couldn't possibly be too strong. Great concept for a build. Happy that reanimators are available to hives now.
Please keep doing these meta builds. I love watching and trying them out.
This plus the devouring swarm ethic would be absolute murder across the entire galaxy and I love it. I'd also become the crisis and maybe go lithoids, but thats because its my favorite game style.
Genocidal empires aren't allowed to use Here be Dragons.
@@JabberwockOclock DAMN IT!
I did kill the Ether Drake as a cordyceptic Devouring Swarm in my first non-beta playthrough and my eyeballs clicked when I saw the fleet power of that reanimated beastie.
@@JabberwockOclock What if you force spawn an empire with that origin? Can you still reanimate it?
@@the_fenix_3247 Yes, but a major part of this exploit's power is using the Starbase and Defense Platforms to kill the dragon with as little investment as possible. A genocidal empire would have to fight it solely with ships, and contend with the empire protecting it too.
The strategy no longer works, the latest patch gave the dragon the juggernaut trait and now it carves out stations, ignoring defensive stations. But the strategy has been good for quite a long time.
i never clicked so fast
My Cordyceptic build uses Subspace Ephase right now. The fleet cap is great, and the sunlight speed really helps with the SLOOOW movement speed of your zombie squids.
Not a bad idea honestly
For just 5 energy a month you can sponsor a Tiyanki or Space Dragon and help galactic environmentalists save space fauna from this ridiculously OP strategy.
We need a emergency dragon protection act.
How to Train Your Dragon, Stellaris edition :)
As a Hive Mind fanboy, I'm really glad, that there's a new powerful metabuild out there. At least untill the dev's fix it.
I've tried this today, and so far it just seems each time i do it, I wait for the dragon to get as far away as possible before attacking, and it always comes VERY close and gets in distance to use all its weapons and keeps destroying my starhold
was able to get it on my first try, thanks for sharing!
I spawned right next to the ether drake in my game so within the first 55 years I was able to get both the starting dragon and the ether dragon totaling 208k fleet strength. This meta is absolutely bonkers
About amenities from the other unity building. It's good short term but I think you will eventually need to take synchronicity tradition for those amenities from synapse drones but at least you won't have to burn 2 traditions just to not waste pops.
"Yeah, I'll try this trick"
And then I also got the Rubricator digsite in the same run, my Dragon dealt with Shard fairly easily, and I got ~200k fleet power in 2250.
Also there's something about 2 gigantic space dragons duking it out.
Finally something to relax to
love this channel
Honestly I have been struggling to build a powerful fleet so it's nice to see this.
The moment I saw +50% damage on space creature weapon I knew undead dragon defence is gonna be meta again
I'm new and suck at this game. Your videos are fun AND informative.
Guy is pretty chill.
TAKE MY SUBSCRIBE DAMNIT
@Montu Plays - Nice build that you have here, in ur video you did not show what the 2nd negative trait was? I'm guessing it would of been Solitary?
That's pretty hilarious to be that op early game I think the only downside is you lose access to the baby dragons you get if you do the full origin, but I think if you did the full story to get the baby dragons they'd be pretty strong with that empires civics
AI empire: We have a navy
Montu Hive mind: We have a Dracolich
AI empire: I fold
It would be fun if lithoids had something similar that allowed them to animate asteroids with a penalty to their actual combat ships
I recently discovery an interesting mechanic that is perfectly balanced I would say. Is that when the dragon is going to land on your planet, attack the dragon with a single covet or something immediately after the first event (assuming you choose to let the dragon land). The dragon will immediately die after the dragon 'lands' on your planet. You can, build some defense platform with strikecraft on it while waiting for the second dragon which is currently 'on' your planet to take off, kill the second dragon as usual (revive the first dragon before you kill the second one if possible, otherwise you might not be able to revive the second dragon).
Do you attack it after you click the option to allow it to land? Or once that pops up, you move a ship to attack it and then click to allow it to land? Am new to this game, so I wanted to make sure xd.
@@axelox8026 attack the dragon right after u allow it to land (if I remember it correctly), it should work as intended
@@GoldenCat0418 they changed dragon AI and it just nuked my station today :( will have to load an older save
@@axelox8026Oh, they've fixed that, didn't play that origin since 3.7, thanks for ur information
@@GoldenCat0418 np, have a nice day
it doesn't work for me, the dragon destroys the station instead of the weapon platforms
same here
I tried Devouring Swarm again recently. The first time I tried DV was when it first came out. It was embarrassing as I conquered the galaxy before mid-game. This time around, I went with Overtuned origin. I countered DTC edict's food upkeep by "hungry". Again, beat the game by conquering the galaxy before mid-game and also unlocked Mega Engineering ludicrously early. 🤦
Don’t care
Hey Montu! This looks so stupidly OP lol
Are we getting a video on the shattered ring rogue servitors build as well? Might not be as broken as this one, but looks really strong
Did this last night Jan 3rd, and it still works.
Hey Montu thank you so much for this tutorial! Little question is the needed power to kill the dragon the same or has it been changed?
just did this and was surprised when i was suddenly bleeding 300 food per month from it's upkeep
Make sure you also make some anti frigate ships so you don’t get destroyed by torpedoes
I'm definitely going to try this build! What is the last negative trait though? 🤔
I love how everyone uses the same fungal necrophage as the portrait. I too call them the scourge. But I add the devouring swarm and necrophage to them too
I think it’s because the others look dumb
Where do you get it?
@@BeWare_I_Live Looks like it's the "Dimorphism - Fungoid Parasite Portraits" mod in the workshop.
I saw this and thought "nah, that can't be right" ..........watching it though HOLY MOLY zombie dragon dang sir
Just give a ton of flak to the Dragon, and/or just allow the Dragon to retreat to outside your empire. That's what any thinking being would do with such capabilities.
So this is a way to get the sky dragon early. But if we are friendly to it, will we not get the dragon as well (not undead, and later) with the 50% bonusses from cordyceptic drones? And will these bonusses also not apply to the baby dragons?
4:51 woah what colossus is that
This will be fun.
oh my. that clip when you mention hostile target... what did the younglings do to you!? :P
Hello there! I managed to do it after a few failed attempts (not in the same game, of course). I did, later than Montu, around year 40. I did have defense hull points researched (I was lucky), and I replaced everything on my modules for Hangar Bay, but I believe what I got right this time was the position. After a failed first attempt in which I engaged the dragon in the farthest location, I reloaded and aimed to engage the dragon around the same location/spot Montu did, and it worked. I believe that's the hack to make it work: aim to engage in combat around the same spot he shows in his video. Good luck!
PST: Thanks for sharing this with us
Ah - good observations - had trouble doing it, will try that.
I implemented the extra tips. That worked!
@@scottx1415 good job
This requires lots of food to feed all the large creatures. If you create large whale and/or amoeba Fleets, you will need PLANETS of farmers. It makes food a real resource and minimizes Montu's anti farmer mantra.
I recently waged an early game war with just bubbles with a similar build and he wrecked a fleet of 20 Corvettes at like year 5.
Couldn't you befriend it, and then force it to die naturally and resurrect after (possibly forcing it to die) and get both the undead dragon and the baby dragon production?
So I tried this and the dragon just ate my ass and destroyed the base faster than I could make defense platforms
I mean you can mostly do the same thing as any other necro species just not quite to the same degree but you really don’t need to.
I did this with one as playing an Arasaka Corp analogue (soulkiller+android body=good analogue to zombies rp wise) except i was a megacorp so i had insane finances.
The first advanced empire i found i immediately pledged fealty on favorable terms to myself so nobody would mess with me and i had guaranteed worlds to put my corp buildings on.
Rolling up to my overlord with a 50k dragon backed by a 20k fleet made getting my independence request accepted easy.
Then i just went about subjugating all of my neighbors as subsidiaries with the franchising edict and balled the hell out.
I think they changed the game mechanics. the dragon immediately engages in melee combat and attacks the station
yeah didnt work for me starting today, the new patch fucked this strategy haha
Is there any solutions ?
ymfah just released a video showing a different way to kill it
@@coldsalt2819 I got very close to killing it outright using this exact strat. Seems you just need a reasonably sized fleet to back it up, and a few more techs for better weapons. Focus on anti-armor.
@@Teksura thx for your answer, me too i was very close. Maybe with a level up battlestation and more battleplatforms but it will take a lot of time
This makes single-player basically "I like your house. Unfortunately, I have a dragon, so it's no longer your house."
Mine is the Doug hive. He's not making undead hordes, he's making friends... I didn't hit it at 30 because I used overtuned but the starter Ameba swarm started a steamroll with some Tiyanki.
Really sorry @Montu but I can't figure out how to actually create this species! Can you provide a "for Dummies" on building the Undead aquatic fungoids? Thanks
Everyone is talking about how good it is to re-animate the dragon, but you still get the buff if you agree to raise the children as it's still space Fauna D: I did a game where I got dragon and the 10 young ones and had about 320k+ fleet power from just them alone :D
I have done this on accident before, never replicated it again.
I don't remember what killed it but there was a ether drake right next to my empire and one day it was just dead. I didn't complain I got to take the hoard
I notice something when Playing with this Civic. I don't do Competitive Builds at all, but most if not all the Space Fauna Weapons are Energy based so the repeatables Stack with them, I had 800k Feel of Amoebas by year 3000 Its amazing!
By year 3000? Ummm, and only 800k? I can probably get like 2 or 3 million fleet power by year 3000 with just battleships. Probably even higher power then 3m.
Yr 3k...? Holy shit the lag...
@@SalvLav
Depending on the size of map.
But yeah. I’m on the ps5 and my game wish crash every like 30 minutes or so if I get to test 2800
Part of me wants to see everyone in the tournament use this strategy.
Lesgoooo
I know what I’m doing in my next game.
what would you think to involve the biological catalysis ... (alloys out of food) ? as the second trait?
0:53 Arthas likes this.
So I don't know what I am doing wrong for me, when I do it(this is the 50th time now) the dragon just **Rushes** to my starhold. Is there something specific that wasn't mention in this video?
the spiffs reference killed me lol
PD: I tried it, i can confirm its a perfectly balanced build
Space Zombie Aegon the Conqueror build, amazing
Stellaris is a perfectly balanced game with no exploits 🧟♂👍
What DLCs do you need for this build?
Just tried this and my scientist researching the project died with a couple months left - resetting the project and using up all the research I'd stored ;_; still a blast of a build though!
Oh no! That is not mean to happen!
has the battle system been updated? cuz i followed this guide and got everything and so on but the dragon went into close range and destroyed me
I need to use that.
Also, the range bit annoyed me in the beta. Thought having a dragon of my own would make Shard and Stellar Devourer eazy peazy.
NOPE.
The big dragon with massive regen stays the furthest away from the target...so that it can ONLY use it's breath weapon...which was not enough to outpace the regen of those two.
I knew I wasnt crazy that it is possible for a huge power spike. Although there is a few player who do so without the leviathan. I just can't wrap my head on how it is possible without any DLC at all. The best I can pull out is 5k Research point by 2300, with just the base game aggressive style of expansion. But it is still not enough to fight against 2 fallen empire and a crisis. My friend managed to pull 21k research point by 2350, I just.... dont know how they do that.
this is OP
Lifeas used this in the Stellaris necrotic d invasion event!!
so i tried it today. and i managed to take the drake down a few times, and did the f2 event with ressurecting it, but once ive done its not to be found anywhere, did i miss something ?
I'd like to partecipate to the tournament but the best i can do for the year 30 is to have 6k fleet and few planetx colonised
wouldn't it be weak vs a frigate spam ? since dragons count as titans and would get 800% dmg from torpedos
How do you get the cordyceptic drones?
I don’t see it anywhere is it a dlc civic or something? What dlc if so
Back when I played the game on normal speed I'd only get to maybe 20-30k by 2230~ish and that was on perfectly ideal games
Perfectly balanced as all things should be xD Hats off.
Is this strat patched? The dragon ALWAYS moves closer to my station and just kills it even when I still have 6 or 7 out of 9 platforms still alive.
Doesn't have cordyceptic drones on systems apparently
Last time I tried out this civic my people became incredible hungry because of all the bio ships.
i see similar one but 400k in 30 minutes, great video.
I didn't even know you could store research
So the smallest ship that can use hangars is the best strategy to take down the dragon that someone else has if you just want to play the game normally? Or is there some sort of cheap trick I can use to take over the system despite the dragon still being there?
“This is not your grave…but you are welcome in it”
Thx for this hint. I need more than time But at the end. I have more than four dragons befor mid-game.
Pretty sure montu just handed the nerf bat to paradox given the overall way they deal with these things lol great video Montu, I'm pretty excited for this new patch even though I was sketchy about it at first announcement.
As soon as I saw the new Reanimator civic I immediately had flashbacks to the most broken mechanic in Heroes of Might and Magic 3, Diplomacy. You can quickly snowball the game by getting more powerful which in turn allows you to take over more and more enemies to yourself. Which is why it's banned in multiplayer games.
Before I watch the rest of the video I'm thinking this is not as powerful because you still rely on random spawns but as soon as you get enough fleet power to take a Leviathan and resurrect it, it's gg.
EDIT: I was not accounting for the fact that the Dragon just sits at the back and not attacking the station lmao
It’s also a starting origin… so there will always be a dragon to potentially kill
Can someone tell me which DLC I need for this please ? I have hive mind but not the cordyceptic civic. **Edit: It is the Necroid species for those that are new to Stellaris and are looking to give this a try. Dragon origin is Aquatic DLC.
Might have to try that Feudalism build with this strat….
Which DLCs are needed for this ?
Anybody know why I keep losing half my fleet for no reason while they’re just hanging out at a star base? It’s super annoying spending all that time building then just to have them disappear for no apparent reason
Wait... I am pretty sure that all building stops when your station gets attacked.
