One of the coolest crossovers ever
Jackie Stewart did a commercial with Dale Jarrett
A king and a knight
For sure, two guys with guts to spare
The two nicest guys in all of motorsports in the same car together, how awesome!!
Stewart was so great in those seventies NASCAR broadcasts.
Two of racing's greatest legends. Jackie Stewart and Richard Petty.
Gee, that’s perceptive . . .
@@danieldravot341 Please, dial 988 and seek help.
About the same age, and they are both still with us.
@@danieldravot341Yeah; it's a pity they didn't include such important information in the title.
Thanks Tips.
Pretty cool that both of these legends are still alive
Richard is now 86 and Jackie is 84. They were about 35 & 33 then.
That's good to hear. Didn't know that Jackie was still alive. Hope he's doing well.
@@waynemetevia7983 I sometimes see him during Formula One broadcasts, he seem to be doing very well and is still active.
Don't jinx it.
@@N2YTA That's good to hear. Thanks
This is so awesome to see the respect between two all-time legends. Thank you for sharing!
Awesome! Dueling accents! Two absolute masters.
F1 and NASCAR are totally different sports. It is awesome to see 2 legends together.
A little bit like cricket and baseball, I guess.
Absolutely priceless clip of 2 world famous race car drivers just taking an ordinary road car for a casual cruise around Darlington. Awesome.
I've been a fan of Jackie Stewart's since I was a kid in the mid-70s. I'll never forget my dad telling me "that's one fiery little englishman...... and he can drive the absolute piss out of a car". I gave up my life as I knew it to see my mother to the end of dementia, after my Dad's passing. It brings tears to my eyes now to see that fire still there.. and now directed towards something even more special to my heart. Jackie's definitely one of the greatest of all time
Not Englishman, a Scot, big difference.
@AmericasChoice I don't think my dad knew at the time. Our information on F1 back then was very limited here in the states. I'm not even sure they broadcast every race hear back then, but you had to be awake, and in front of the television or you missed it. I've known he was Scottish for a very long time now. I should have pointed it out, but as an American my mind was more on my father's quote and not quite as much how offensive it may be.
I’ve been very lucky. I saw JYS win at Mid-Ohio in the Can-Am in the L&M Lola, I saw him win at Monaco when he tied Jimmy Clark at twenty-five victories and I worked with him for two years in F1 in the media . . .
@@danieldravot341 To see Jackie win in anything but single-seaters is more than luck. It is miraculous. Stewart was the first one to admit he wasn't very good in Sports Cars.
@@heinous70 I thought the same here in Canada. I like to think of him as a Scot amongst all the great racers from the U.K with too many to name.
Really cool ! I remember a few years later later (about 1976) on Wide World.. at Atlanta, Richard actually let Jackie Stewart DRIVE the STP Dodge a few laps with Richard coaching via 2 way radio.
Same show A J Foyt let Jackie Stewart drive his Indy car. If I remember correctly,Stewart did well in the Indy car but was lost driving Petty's stock car.
I still laugh & think of Blazing Saddles whenever I read Wide World Of Sports anywhere...!?! 👌😆🙏
@@pete956IndyCar has long been more similar to F1 in terms of the cars, so it makes sense.
Atlanta has always been my favorite, doesn't hurt its my home track. Tis a sad thing to see what they have done to the fastest 1.5 mile track. Now its just a cheap, wasted knock off of boring ass Daytona now.
@@centralscrutinizer6108Agreed ... Sad, And Disgraceful. I really miss the old Atlanta Raceway's unique layout. I've always felt that moving the Start / Finish Line at Darlington was an Equally Irresponsible, Reckless, And Disrespectful move as well. For me, it turned Darlington from a track that I refused to miss attending a race at, to a track that I can no longer stand to look at, and would Never buy tickets to attend again. I never hear anyone mention it though, so I guess stuff like that is ok with everyone else.
Richard looks so cool with one hand up on the wheel like that
Two of the greatest drivers in history sharing technique, you can’t ask for more as a racing fan. You can feel the mutual respect they have for each other in the tone of the conversation.
gold nugget here. thank you for this little time capsule .
Jackie x Nascar was a great duo. So cool to see a highly respected international driver appreciate our sport.
That's something i never expected to see in my entire life, two legends for sure, i wish there was more crossovers now days, with drivers from diffrent racing series, like this one.
Now that's racing royalty right there! Two of the best ever!
There should have been a TV Series with these two driving muscle cars & solving mysteries.
Jackie has some awesome sideburns! My favorite Darlington tutorial is with Cale Yarborough wrestling his car around on film.
Jackie Stewart was the best on commentary. "Johnny Rutherford has just hit the wall, and he BURSTS INTO FLAMES! Al Unser runs into the back of Rutherford's car, and he BURSTS INTO FLAMES! Now down to Chris Economaki in the pits, who has just BURST INTO FLAMES!.
Two legends in a boat sailing around a track.
Ooooo clips! Thanks for uploading this!
Also can y’all upload full Trucks, Busch, and Modified races for the fans?
The Cup ones are great, but the fans deserve to see other old series races!
Those sideburns don't get more epic than that!
They're dwarfing Petty's like he doesn't have any.
@@BillyBob-gj6tx 🤣 👍
What a brilliant video. It's great to see them both together.
We may think we're cool, but we're not to legendary side burn rockers lapping a legendary track in a 4 door Chrysler sedan cool. Great stuff!
Both of these men set a standard for racing!
Thank you for combing the archives much appreciated because this was way before my time loved too here its always been a tough narrow track don't make me feel to bad for wrecking when I use my wheel set up 😅
Would enjoy seeing more videos like this as they are found, timeless treasures.
The fact this doesn't have 1M views already says a lot. idk what it says, but it's a lot. This is two all-time greats in their prime talking what they love. Wish Jackie had run in Nascar.
I have that car he's driving. 1973 Polara. Crazy to see a video of one brand new. Mine is crusty!
I remember them 69' police Polaras in the rear view mirror. You might as well pull over, because you weren't gonna git away from them. Cheeseler tested them at over 150mph on the Chelsea proving grounds and the high compression, police spec 440s, geared the way they were, were very quick and fast for fullsized 6 passenger cars.
@@malcolmhamilton5200The "Top end unlimited" car from Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry.
2 of my favorites back when it was racing
Two of motorsport's ROYALTY!
Sir Jackie and King Richard!!
If you could fit every modern race car driver on Earth into one car, their talent would still come woefully short the the talent these two men combined shared.
More please , love real footage with out all the fake sponsor convos .,..,,nice work
Two legends in a great big boat. To my Canadian ears, Jackie Stewart's accent is less extreme than Petty's, never would have guessed...
to my Canadian ears I had to concentrate like heck on both of them!
This is very interesting 1973 is this is the Year Jackie Stewart retired also.
That's when he became a commentator for racing I believe.
Two living legends
That FuManchu added at least 10 MPH!
That was great to be a part of that conversation. I read that Jim Clark got some seat time in a NASCAR Stock car, running on a high banked oval, sometime in the mid 60’s. It’s fascinating to see top level drivers from one series try their hand in something completely different, their innate talents become quickly evident.
Clark ran for Holman Moody at Rockingham in a Ford Fairlane. Besides his Indy win he also runner up 63, but won at Milwaukee, and took pole in Trenton. He finished 1963 5th in USAC and 1st in Formula 1. Truly amazing.
This is what real legends do. They don’t bicker and argue about how turning right is so much harder than left. Jackie is mesmerized by another master. Talking about the inside and outside grooves, the car being “tight” or “loose”. He’s eager to learn. One god to another god.
They should do something similar today, that'd be awesome. Even if it's just a few laps around a popular track where they talk history and more.
Damn, I want more of this. I love it when drivers talk about their craft. We rarely get to hear that
Priceless history. Total respect!
Great moment in automotive history. I remember the race where Richard broke the rules and ran all left tires (if I'm not mistaken) to win the race. Those boys who came out of run'n moonshine know all the tricks. I remember another racer who froze the suspension to meet the height requirement. But once that boy warmed up the car and the height dropped back down, he had a nice advantage. As in MLB, NBA, & NFL, the refs don't catch everything. 😎
remember the guy whose gas tank was seized and he drove away because he had yards of gas line hidden in the car?
This legit made my day, imagine what Jackie was thinking
........and now a word from our sponsor, STP motor oil.....AND IT BURST INTO FLAMES !!!!!!!,
They were so young..... once.
Great to see two young guys together before they earned the tittle GOAT.
Saw Petty in an airport decades ago. Five 5 tall with a one foot tall hat.
Two absolute racing icons
Two great racing legends in one car
And Jackie had already run the Daytona 500 by 1973. He was pretty nifty behind the wheel. F1, NASCAR, Can-Am, Indy 500 as well as other categories raced during his career. Driver’s needed to race multiple series to make a comfortable living
In his prime, Petty was an absolute unit!
Re the offensive imagery warning...I couldn't find it, once again I'm left out of the fun.
Wow I've never seen this before! Kinda surprised I haven't! Really cool! Two legends just hanging out. World collide kinda stuff! 😊
What a pure interaction
Jackie Stewart will soon be eighty-five years old, and Richard Petty will soon be eighty-seven years old.
what's even more wonderful is that they have achieved those ages despite having competed when auto racing, esp F1, was a deadly sport. Obviously the best of the best.
@@coldlakealta4043 You got it. Stewart raced in the deadly 60s and 70s, and Petty raced when drivers were still wearing jeans and short-sleeved shirts.
Be cool to see them One more time on the same race track together.
My 2 favorite drivers together !
NASCAR man do I love it 🏁

@@jefferyrobertson7520 yep

@@stepanbandera5206 💯 correct. Just happened to be driving one for the 200th win.
Great stuff at the SOUTHERN 500 !!!! Enjoyed
I have never seen Richard Petty without his hat. Great head of hair!
I remember watching this on TV back then. Darlington's one of the craziest tracks on the servant circuit because each corner is different
Beautiful "fuselage" body ...
I too had a '73 Plymouth Fury sedan ... I drove it like the Bluesmobile, hard.
He showed Kyle the ropes at Talladega at 190+ with Kyle sitting on a car cover holding on for dear life
Great video!!!
Far out!
Two of my favorite drivers!
Only people that do not understand racing say NASCAR isn't real racing. Look at any interview of drivers who have driven both F1 and NASCAR (especially Montoya), and they will say how much more difficult NASCAR is. The respect the drivers have for each other is immense.
Stop with your nonsense. Montoya said that very tongue in cheek, especially as he landed in NASCAR after his stint in F1 so of course he would say that to save face. Ask Gordon or JJ who drove F1 cars during demonstrations. They both said how impossibly fast and difficult F1 cars are to drive. It’s why Frank Williams said Gordon would have to start racing in F3, then graduate to F2 before attempting F1. It’s a skill set and discipline different than nascar.
Just cruising in a "C" body.
I wonder, did the C body have a HEMI?
That's what they were made for, like sitting on your living room couch.
@@stepanbandera5206unfortunately not in those, but you could get the older 426 Street Wedge and the 440.
It's the theory you see. Nascar is very different from something like F1. To be a fly on the wall with these two is magic.
Jackie and Richard two racing warriors
will there be a part 2 ( or continuation of this video)?
It’s strange how the bottom half of the track in the clip looks like he’s going 30mph. And the top half of the track and stands etc seems like he’s going around 100+mph
Anyone else have the Jackie Stewart race track set in the 70's? I put a few thousand miles on my cars.
Some of the best sideburns I have ever seen
They stuffed a 2x4 in the right side btw. the cage and the sheet metal to be the 'wall feeler'
Wow 😲! what a sight two racing legends in the same car 🚗😲💥!
73 Polara! I had a 73 Polara, a 72 Polara, and a 73 Newport.
2 of the best drivers
"The footage you are about to see appear as originally broadcast and may contain imagery that is offensive and doesn't align with NASCAR's values."
You DEVALUE your own history??? No wonder racetracks are never full anymore. Most people don't know there used to be a 20 YEAR waiting list for tickets at Bristol. 20 YEARS!! Today, walk up and buy your ticket to a venue that is half full. THIS is part of the reason NASCRAP has been dying a slow death.
It's now a skin suit of its former self completely taken over by the same people who've always hated the fans.
Epic...and both are so well spoken too.
Except for Petty's double negative, so the track's not tricky at all 😊
Almost bizarre how good the audio is.
Lol! No seat belts! Love to see The King open up the Newport with the 44o for Jackie!
Their seat belts were the last thing on my mind when listening to those legendary racers.
Looks like Petty is wearing just his lap belt.
Enjoyed!!!! 👍👍
This. Is. Amazing.
It's pretty funny seeing two champion race drivers going around the track in a 4 door family sedan. That's probably about as fast as the King could drive that land barge without it spinning out of control. I hope he got it home in time for Lynda to get groceries and pick up the kids at school.
Pure internet gold.
Now this is the avengers
That was great ❤
Stewart: So you’re just turning left?
I love this!!!
"Sir" Jackie Stewart.
So cool... those were the days. I miss "wild world of sports". They'd show auto races all the time....
It was "Wide World of Sports".
Safety man Stewart with no seat belt!
Looked like Petty was wearing a lap belt, but definitely no one had the shoulder belts buckled.
I read the designer intended racing on the flat with the bank to be used like a runaway ramp for spins to keep drivers from going right into the wall.
Well if that's true, those good ol' boys said, no thank you. We'll get up there and tap that wall on purpose.
Thanks
Very cool to see !
Petty seems like a really nice bloke.
can you image the large size of the cameras used to get this footage.
I was just thinking the same thing. There's at least two cameras and a microphone at once, too. The fender camera shots were likely done in a different take, but still. Camcorders weren't even a thing in '73, let alone GoPros.
Seat swap back then would be solid
outstanding
