  • In the end, it’s essentially a block game without the blocks and it offers a digestible, low complexity take on the classic Ardennes offensive that can be played in an evening, alone or with a partner. What’s not to like?

These Bulge games all look great, but I only have one: Danny Parker's original quadgame, plus Sedan 40, which satisfies me greatly

my first playthrough i made some awesome rolls as the germans and punched a 3 hex wide hole in the line and advanced some armor through the hole on the first turn. the column moved off the board through N2 for the instant victory on turn 4.
next playthrough the allies reinforcements arrived in time and sent the germans back into the forest

Hello Ryan, this is Steve who emailed you via geekmail recently about an opinion of getting this game (which you did Thank you). First off, very nice video review and I will be getting this game soon as a result of your videos. I do have a question to clear up. In your example of play around Bastogne, you mentioned it took 5 RP (about 1/3 of there RP of 16), but should that have included the approach to engage those 3 units which added 3 more RP, which would instead be a total of 8 RP (about 1/2 of the RP of 16?).
    Thanks.

Glad to hear the video helped you make a decision. For the play example, it costs 1 RP to activate each unit to move, making it 3 for those units to close on Bastogne. Then an additional 2 RPs to activate units to attack the hex, making it 5 all together. Its normally just 1 RP if the attacking units are all from the same army (i.e. 5PA), but it becomes 2 if units from different formations are coordinating an attack. Let's say the Bastogne hex was completely surrounded by 6 units, all from the same formation- it would still only cost 1 RP to attack the hex. Hope that clears things up.

Thx for the review. The game looks pretty interesting for me. I have too many medium to heavy wargames, and I’m lacking on the lighter side of the hobby.

First video I've seen on this game. I have Enemy Action : Ardennes, which is a great solo ( and 2 player ) Bulge game, but it has a large amount of rules overhead. I'd like to pick this up so I can compare and contrast with EAA. Playing EAA is a big commitment, I'd like to have a simpler game covering the topic. The use of resource points to refit units and launch offensives/advances looks intriguing.

Enemy Action has caught my attention and I know it can be a beast in terms of rules. But if you are looking for engaging and low complexity, this title is your ticket.

Thanks for reviewing this! I think you should reconsider your opinion on playing block games solitaire. I find it quite enjoyable. It's as simple as turning the board around. I just think if you categorically exclude those games you will miss out on many great games. Holdfast Russia, for instance. Thanks again!

The Holdfast series has intrigued me so I may have to give it a go.

@@CataclysmNow_ Stalingrad: Inferno on the Volga is a solitaire playable block game and a very good one at that.
