Just caught up to what I missed. Bill since you were asking you could have run past the the guard’s because the gnomes distracted them for you. You were not in initiative. The game was basically expecting you to surrender or run, but remember it’s DnD so fighting is a valid option too, so don’t fret.
Glad you guys were okay after the tornado watch. For some reason we’ve been getting them a lot where I live too even though it’s normally pretty rare.
Also there are some interesting areas(one of my favorites is in that first area) around so it might still be worthwhile to come back even though the bridge you were on is the main path forward for the story.
