Some of the things Carlos said about TwoSet were so sweet. It's actually hilarious to see TwoSet meet people who are really influential and high up in the classical world, like Hilary Hahn, for example, because TwoSet is always incredibly nervous to meet their heroes (or in this case, their heroes' instruments) but then they always discover that their heroes are also huge fans of TwoSet. Look at the smiles on everyone's faces in this video - it's almost like a romance. If you weren't involved in the classical music world before TwoSet existed, you may not realize it, but they have absolutely changed the atmosphere for this entire community. No wonder they're loved.
The last time Brett was this giddy was when he met Hilary Hahn! Wonderful to see Brett and Eddy advance as artists as well as figures within the classical music realm. They’ve truly been able to show the human side of the music world and bridge the gap between public perceptions and professional culture.
Carlos is so nice and friendly - not just "posh salesman" - absolutely knows who Twoset are, and is able to share a joke. I've watched Twoset enough now to be able to share a small part of the thrill they feel here, and communicate so well. Also nice to hear Brett talk a bit more in this one. When they promised us "epic content", they weren't lying.
God, I actually can feel how exciting this 'excursion' is for Brett and Eddy. As a writer and simply a person who's interested in literature, I can compare this to seeing and reading for example first manuscripts of Shakespeare's works. It's like you're touching history of something you dedicate your life to. It's just magical. Thanks for sharing your experience, guys🖤
That's a perfect comparison, it's exactly how it feels! I played a Strad about ten years ago, far before I was good enough to appreciate it but I was still in awe of how different the sound was than other violins.
That owner guy was so nice! Charismatic, genuinely engaged, super knowledgeable without being pretentious, careful yet didn’t make you feel uncomfortable about touching the priceless violins, seemed genuinely so kind and happy to have you guys there!!! Seemed like you guys liked him too! When he complimented Brett he seemed so happy!
0:5211:26 Carlos, obviously a fellow super Twoset fan!!! 🥰🥰🥰 Thank you for being our voice to personally tell Brett and Eddy how impressive they are and how much we appreciate their hard work creating great content while still maintaining their level of playing!!! ❤❤❤
Carlos is one of those people who's just so incredibly put together and charismatic. The compliment he paid them about their playing was a perfect complement - not the empty-seeming and vague flattery of 'wow you're amazing!' but specifically appreciating how much work it takes for them to stay in practice while they do so much beyond playing their instruments.
It warmed my heart so much to hear Carlos appreciate them at 11:27! They deserved to hear it cuz it really is so true and you can tell it touched them a lot🥺 their smiles sdjshsj
This is the kind of collabs that I like. I love it when they get in touch with their musical side more than the entertainer side. What they have also gives opportunities for organization of violin world to get known, to reach more people through the power of social media. It's amazing 💝
it's so nice to see brett and eddy being recognised for the amount of work they put in not only as youtubers, but as professional violinists too! they truly do practise so regularly that it's amazing
So what I wondered while watching this [3 months ago]... would Brett be loaned a Strad for his forthcoming Mendy concert.... HAS ACTUALLY HAPPENED. News just announced. I did say as much on another vid when TwoSetters were discussing whether he'd have an orchestra this time round. That was a given imo but it's not just one Strad, it's two! One for Eddy as well. I'm SO happy for them; a huge shout out to Tarisio for making Brett's dream come true....
I love how Brett is very smiley in this video. People say that he looks soulless in their old vids, but his eyes were sparkling with admiration in this vid! He's like an excited fangirl who's about to meet her idol 💗
I love how Carlos pointed out that they do indeed do the one thing they preach more than anything else- practice. it really shows how invested they are in their art and how much they love the same. I also love how they show that they constantly learn more about the art they do. respect.
13:2214:20 Returning to this after the 4 mil Mendelssohn announcement and damn that aged well XD On a real note tho, so unbelievably excited that Twoset get to perform on STRADSS soon!!!!😍 They sound so great in this vid already, can't wait to hear how much more AMAZING it'll be in the concert ✨
It's cool seeing twoset kind of setting the classical world abuzz. Hillary hahn, Ray Chen, Curtis, this place, etc. Etc. It's really cool seeing them get these opportunities!
It takes generosity to discover the whole through others. If you realize you are only a violin, you can open yourself up to the world by playing your role in the concert.
It's a bit inflated because the auction was for tsunami relief after the giant earthquake in Japan, and a Japanese multimillionaire paid that $16 million for charity.
I mean, yes. I imagine they might have like a list of possible video ideas of stuff they could do when they're overseas and when the Asian collab happened in NYC, they used the opportunity to make some of that happen.
With 3.64 million subscribers they make a lot of money on RUclips, easily over 100.000 $ a year. But nonetheless, great that they are providing us with such good content.
Just the fact that they are in the states for less than a week but have done so many impressive things amazed me... Hard-working, passionate about classical music, and have endless creative ideas... These are the reasons why Twoset shines!! Ahhhh I love and respect you guys so much!!!
Hi Brett and Eddy! I am Erin, 13 year old pianist and violinist from Ireland. I found your channel a few years ago and ever since then I have been a huge fan of your videos. It amazes me how easy you make the violin look and you never fail to make me laugh. Thank you for the effort you put into your channel for fans like myself and the passion you share for classical music! :)
I wonder how the people that make fun of twoset when they started their YT chanel are feeling right now watching how they are invited to places like Curtis and THE VAULT? That's how you shut up the haters, just keeping your passion, making all the efforts and enjoying the path even in the difficult times. TwoSets is an amazing example of all that. Bravo, Brett and Eddy. 👏👏👏👏
It is fascinating how times have changed, when a RUclips channel can bring a big value to an international and leading auction house. Most of the audience watching these videos are like me, with a passion for classical music but without being a very accomplished violinist. The extraordinary aspect of this channel is that also world class violinists like Hilary Hahn, next generation like Chloe Chau and even the older generation like Maxim Vengerov, also watch this channel. A not unlikely scenario is that a wealthy collector and investor buys the "da Vinci" and then lend it to a prodigy like Chloe Chau. If she continues to develop and become one of the world's great violinist, then it is a winning formula: famous violin + famous violinist = even more famous violin. Kudos to you guys for creating a niche channel, that actually has an impact in the traditional world of classical music!
It makes me so inexplicably happy to see Twoset bring so much recognition to the world of classical music! They truly are fulfilling their dream of spreading classical music to more people arnd the world!🥺 Even as a non-musician I loved this video, so I can only imagine how fascinating it mustve been to violinists!!
I'm not even a musician but I can hear how pretty these instruments sound. The joy on your guys' faces in the presence of these instruments just warms my heart.
Love seeing these videos into areas of the violin world we don't typically get to see. I'm guessing Brett will get to borrow a Strad or other prestigious violin for the Mendelssohn so let's get him to 4million soon!
@@lauracookson9559 Oh that for sure! We need quality sound this time to do justice to all Brett's hours of practice... and a better setting than a table in a curtained room. The sort of production they had for their virtual World Tour. It's gonna be amazing!
EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING, good violin, real orchestra and Eddy be a concertmaster, but I think it would also be nice to play as a soloist with his new violin.
Thanks to Martin Vaillancourt, Client Liaison for Tarisio, for clarifying that the 1707 Guarneri violin shown at 5:23 was made by Pietro Giovanni Guarneri (1655-1720), also known as Pietro (Peter) of Mantua. Pietro was the uncle of Bartolomeo Giuseppe "del Gesù" Guarneri.
Love the video! The point about the Lady Blunt at 8:20 was interesting; it sold in 1971 for 200,000 and then in 2011 for 16,000,000 which at first sounds like a lot but if you do the math that's an annual return of about 11.6%. As a comparison, if you just invested that 200k in the S&P 500 from 1971 to 2011, you would have seen an annual return of ~10.1%, so honestly even though it sounds like a lot it's not that huge an appreciation. But the plot twist here is inflation; Carlos says that the price it sold at in 1979 was the "equivalent" of 200k (presumably in 2011 dollars at the time of second sale), so with an annual average inflation rate of ~4.4%, that's actually an annual inflation-adjusted real return on the violin of 16% compared to 5.7% in the market, so pretty dope! Thanks for coming to my ted talk lmao
Interesting (as opposed to iNtErEsTiNg! 😊) I was wondering, if the prices for top instruments have increased at that rate, who is raking in the money? Answer, it seems, nobody is making an outrageous profit - given that the cost of trading in these instruments is clearly very high, as is the cost (insurance, security etc) of keeping them, or lending them to soloists. I was surprised Carlos revealed anything about when he would be travelling with the Da Vinci.
The only sentences I understood in your comment were the first and last ones. 😅 Thanks for doing the maths, though. It sounds quite interesting, I wish I understood what all of this means...
@@londongael I think it's probably public knowledge that the Da Vinci will be available for playing in the different locations so someone has to travel with it. Just a guess. 🤷♀️
Thanks for the analysis! 16% is wonderful but I think the best return is being able to enjoy and play your investment. You can't do that by investing money in the index. But yes, as pointed out above, you need to factor in maintenance, repairs/restoration, insurance, auction house fees (I don't know about Tarisio but Sotheby's and Christie's is a good chunk of percentage), etc. That said, it may not cost the difference between 16% and 5.7%. From an investment standpoint, would it be easier to estimate return from investing in the index fund or in a Strad? Also, if somehow the Strad was stolen or destroyed, how much is the insurance payout? How would they evaluate the value? I think for anyone to invest in instruments, they probably have an appreciation (no pun intended) for music.
Funnily, if every subscriber gave them 10$, they could possibly buy themselves a Strad each (theoretically speaking, not asking for a crowd fund). It is amazing how far they have made it and how the channel has grown.
Absolutely beautiful playing! I knew Strads had that pattern on their back, but seeing it up close, even through the video, was amazing! Thank you guys!
Twoset has become very well known. When they do actually play seriously, they are incredible players. Furthermore, their knowledge about violin history, makers, & music is impressive. You can tell it's not been coached within the last few minutes, for the video. As is their appreciation for the artwork of the violins, & fear of hurting them. This is an incredible video: well done, Brett and Eddie!
Update for new viewers: This visit was in April. Carlos was so impressed with them, that he (Tarisio) loaned them two Strads for one month to prepare and play in their 4 mil concert in Singapore. (Empress Cathrina and Regent Superb) Empress was sold later for $5 mil. Here is the video when the Strads arrived: 'We Got Our Strads' and the video of the concert : 'TwoSet Violin & SSO: Mendelssohn Violin Concerto'
Holy shit that excerpt of Tchaik in 11:06 was mind blowing. I never heard Brett play it like that 🤯🤯🤯 it's so flowy and graceful. His violin usually makes it sound so strong and passionate but it also sounds chaotic sometimes. Jsjsksks i dont have words. I think their visit to Curtis also helped bc I can see him applying the gradual increase in ✨expressivo✨ in there.
I’m in no means even 1% knowledgable about violins, but the sound when they played was so beautiful. It really did sound different from their own violins and ones they’ve used before. Very excited to know who’ll buy and hear them play it.
Ok but you can totally hear the difference in quality of this violin, it sounds so beautiful... I'm so happy you guys got to experience all that and share it with us, it was really nice to watch! :D
This video actually brought me to happy tears! That DaVinci Strad sounds just so majestic, I've not heard a violin sound that... Divine! I'm sure being there and playing was as well, but hearing it in person had to just be completely phenomenal!!! Great job Brett & Eddy!!!
Dang, TwoSet has been busy collaborating with other creators, touring Curtis, and now visiting an auction house. I really enjoy these fun AND educational videos.
It's a mystery to me why I like this channel so much. Maybe I was a musician in a previous life because I sure as hell am not one in this life. It nearly made me cry to hear this instrument being played so beautifully by these two peculiar yet relatable personalities.
I’m just trying to imagine what it must be like to have Carlos’s job; just think of how many priceless pieces of art and history that man has held in his hands in his lifetime.
no, cuz he was right!!! you guys do sound amazing!!! and it's so heartwarming to see interactions where both parties have mutual respect for each other, the way twoset respect instruments and the people working to care for them, and the way the tarisio staff were so excited to have you there. Simply blown away by these EPIC contents they have built up over the last few months, since the the virtual tour. This, the Curtis one, those try-outs and soloists hang-outs/interviews they did could already form a hot violin documentary series. Thank you very much, TwoSet. The world loves you.
I am a piano person, through and through. My first and last love. That said... The "golden age" Stradivarius' sound is out of this world. The beauty of it was clear even on my smartphone speaker. I am so pleased for both of you that you had the opportunity to play upon it. I extend my gratitude to its stewards over the many, many years, and that includes Tarisio. This is the best kind of collaboration: commercial benefit, personal benefit, and sharing it all.
Didn't realize until the end of the video that I was grinning through the whole thing. I'm not a violinist, but seeing these treasured works of art and hearing the sounds they can produce even with someone who hasn't had the chance to learn the instrument's voice is just a precious gift. Brett, Eddy, and Carlos were all radiating pure joy the entire time, Brett and Eddy for seeing and holding these treasures in person, and Carlos for having such appreciative and passionate visitors. The whole video was truly and simply a joy to watch. Thanks for sharing this experience with us!

This kind of content is my favourite. That Da Vinci has the most gorgeous sound! I also think this video shows the beauty of craftsmanship that also applies to playing the violin. Carlos saying that repairs can last years really shows how you have to put in an enormous effort to get quality. The lasting power of a Stradivarius or a Del Gesu is proof of this. And the desire to keep creating better violins is similar to the desire to keep playing better. An amazing video!

0:52 11:26 Carlos, obviously a fellow super Twoset fan!!! 🥰🥰🥰 Thank you for being our voice to personally tell Brett and Eddy how impressive they are and how much we appreciate their hard work creating great content while still maintaining their level of playing!!! ❤❤❤
Carlos complimenting you guys was so sweet, and needed to be said!
Guess TwoSetViolin is now becoming THE media in the world for the world of violin. Thank you so much for bringing everyone together!
It warmed my heart so much to hear Carlos appreciate them at 11:27! They deserved to hear it cuz it really is so true and you can tell it touched them a lot🥺 their smiles sdjshsj
This recent wave of collabs is incredible! You guys make my day everyday.
I love how Twoset's more recent videos showcase their more serious playing. Keep up the amazing work guys!
Hasn’t it been great to see them playing! I loved the lessons they had at Curtis, such exquisitely nuanced suggestions.
I love how Carlos pointed out that they do indeed do the one thing they preach more than anything else- practice. it really shows how invested they are in their art and how much they love the same. I also love how they show that they constantly learn more about the art they do. respect.
13:22 14:20 Returning to this after the 4 mil Mendelssohn announcement and damn that aged well XD On a real note tho, so unbelievably excited that Twoset get to perform on STRADSS soon!!!!😍 They sound so great in this vid already, can't wait to hear how much more AMAZING it'll be in the concert ✨
Thanks to Tarisio for making that possible!

It cost 16 million dollars? and this was back in 2011, that's actually insane.
Indeed insane.
why are you here?????
I guarantee in 2022 its probably somewhere around 30 Million
*Good God*
It's a bit inflated because the auction was for tsunami relief after the giant earthquake in Japan, and a Japanese multimillionaire paid that $16 million for charity.
Apparently Lady Blunt has never been used by a soloist or played regularly, so it's in "mint condition," so to speak.
Two set production value and fame is skyrocketing and I love it.
We really gotta appreciate the fact that they flew across the world to make these kinds of videos for us. Hope that they had a great time there!
I mean, yes. I imagine they might have like a list of possible video ideas of stuff they could do when they're overseas and when the Asian collab happened in NYC, they used the opportunity to make some of that happen.
Hi, where are they now?
@@piliomar31 im pretty sure they live in australia, but they do travel from time to time to make these type of content

They truly are fulfilling their dream of spreading classical music to more people arnd the world!🥺
Even as a non-musician I loved this video, so I can only imagine how fascinating it mustve been to violinists!!
Never thought of that one but yes, that's the possible surprise!
Also thought maybe it could be with a full orchestra
@@lauracookson9559 Oh that for sure! We need quality sound this time to do justice to all Brett's hours of practice... and a better setting than a table in a curtained room. The sort of production they had for their virtual World Tour. It's gonna be amazing!
@@lauracookson9559 That's what I thought too. Maybe both? 🙂
It's crazy how you two got the time to fit in shooting all these contents in your short stay in new york, thanks for your hardwork!
If this donation function came out earlier, I'll definitely donate a lot more for this video because Twoset with Strad is just the best combo!!
This was very interesting, thanks for the input!
The only sentences I understood in your comment were the first and last ones. 😅
Thanks for doing the maths, though.
I have new fave genre of TwoSet videos: them going to other places and meeting new people :) More of this please!
Funnily, if every subscriber gave them 10$, they could possibly buy themselves a Strad each (theoretically speaking, not asking for a crowd fund). It is amazing how far they have made it and how the channel has grown.
I was just thinking that too....
Yess! Is that including the insurance?
Hmmm...sounds like a great idea. We know that the boys definitely deserve their own Strads
The Da Vinci Strad is expected to sell between $15M and $20M. So you can probably get 1 Strad.
Also, I think Eddy might appreciate a Guarneri instead.
You could possibly do it if someone set up an "organisation" and a representative or chairman placed the bid.
Absolutely beautiful playing! I knew Strads had that pattern on their back, but seeing it up close, even through the video, was amazing! Thank you guys!
the best part of this video is the looks on their faces when the director complemented their playing
Brett and Eddy are such respectful people, I'm so proud of what they've accomplished, I love you guys stay the way you are.

This is so impressive. I love how Eddy has his hands behind his back most of the time, just like he is affraid of even touching the Strads.

Hearing them get a genuine compliment made me so happy. It's soothing to see how humble and hardworking they are. Gave me some motivation, too. ^^
Everyday they post high quality videos. Respect
That was a great oportunity! I'm loving these videos!
