Yes, Europe’s soft power is strong. However, the bigger the expectations, the bigger the disappointment can be. Many Koreans who had high hopes for Europe from the media feel let down when they actually visit and see some of the difficult conditions and people they didn’t expect. In Japan, there’s even something called the ‘Paris Syndrome,’ a mental health issue that happens when many East Asians feel disappointed by Europe.
It’s true that, in many ways, Europe is behind East Asia. Most Koreans I’ve met in Europe have said that after coming here, their sense of pride and patriotism for Korea has only grown stronger.
It's not that they have high hopes, they have unrealistic expectations. They are not the only ones though, Americans do the same. Emily in Paris is not helping either
@@Móhuàn8 However, just like many East Asians have unrealistic expectations about the West, it seems that many Westerners also have similar fantasies about East Asia, especially Japan and Korea.
Paris Syndrome typically relates to the city of Paris, hence the name…but it’s not just concerning severe culture shock from Europe…it’s severe culture shock that someone may have about ANY country (because Europe is not the only continent with countries, of course) that someone may have high/ romanticized expectations for.
They're into it for the novelty factor, so initially it's definitely easier. But eventually, most of them will come to their senses and marry someone that can afford to buy an apt in Seoul and it's probably not foreigners who just go there to have fun and are not financially serious. Korean girls are not like white girls that view broke artists as an attractive option.
That's not accurate. The number of Korean women dating French men is quite low, even lower than those dating Southeast Asian men. The majority of Korean women who date Westerners are primarily involved with individuals from North America.

It may be related to the past when modernization was equated with westernization. In fact, it is difficult to think of the so-called modern era as separate from Europe. In that respect, Europeans are blessed. Of course, the center of such cultural influence moved to the United States a long time ago. However, Europe's influence in the historical context is still enormous. This is true in both positive and negative aspects.

@@Móhuàn8
However, just like many East Asians have unrealistic expectations about the West, it seems that many Westerners also have similar fantasies about East Asia, especially Japan and Korea.
