get a small dish soap bottle when it's empty clean out and fill with bar oil. you can squeeze it in and when you stop it sucks oil back in and no over fill. it's what I use.
Hi folks, as always great video. Here in UK our scones are sliced and filled with plenty of whipped cream and strawberry jam (jelly). A treat every now and again.
You're my FIRST stop in the AM to start my day. Thanks for a pleasant reminder of the good things in life to look forward to. Yes, I think more geese for the homestead. Maybe a watering spot for them. Have a good day!
I like that you've consistently shown us what homesteading life is about, the day to-day activities, big and little projects and how it all works for your family. Thanks for sharing!
Stuff I’d like to see: A quick video update on things you have shown in the past like how’s your weather station working out. How are the trees that you planted with Morgan? Do you still use the solar lights you bought in the yard? What have you used on the homestead that you thought would be awesome but ended up ditching? Stuff like that.
The time is coming for everyone to start their 'Victory Gardens" especially this year, of all years! I feel hope rising for a much better future, because of the change of heart so many have gone through, in this time of isolation. Victory Gardens abound!
Kathleen Cone Some garden centers are closed and those big box stores have very little seeds to offer and some internet seed shops have a waiting list....ya ...think people are growing more this year...wow
@@carriem7832 if you're like me you impluse bought a bunch of seeds a few years ago for a garden you never actually planted. Always think ahead. Always.
I guess im randomly asking but does any of you know of a method to get back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb forgot the login password. I appreciate any help you can offer me!
Since I started watching your channel, Wednesday’s just aren’t the same, because i do love starting my days watching , it is inspiring! I live up here in the northeast too, and we have the same weather systems- generally. Anticipating watching your garden this year. This will be my first garden in many years. Love your channel Al, thanks for all your hard work and great ideas!
Morning Al, I'm an arborist from Canada, you should try to learn the "running bowline" for a knot you use to attach the rope to the tree. SUPER easy and very easy to get undone as well. stay safe!
Wooden cattle feed bunks with holes drilled in bottom make great raised garden beds, esp for wheel chair or elderly. Usually made at lumber yard size is 16 foot by 2.5 wide 2 foot high.
One of the easiest recipe for Scones is 2.5 cups of SR flour, 250mls of cream and 1 can of Lemonade soda. ( I have NO idea what that translates into for US ). Mix altogether and flatten out. Cut how you want and baste with Milk and/or egg on top. Bake. YUMMO!
Yesterday I put my 2 1/2 week old chicks outside. I followed your example and insulated the coop and hung heat lamps so they wouldn’t get cold at night when the temperatures drop to 35. I’m thankful for the useful information I receive from your videos 😊.
You and me both. I have been avoiding crowds, and keeping my trips out of the house to a minimum. If I do eventually contract the virus I hope our health care systems and hospitals are back up and functioning.
Yep, snow is headed your way. We just had 2 days of snow, ended up with over 6 inches. Today it is melting. Love those spring snow storms! They bring a lot of moisture to us! :)
Good morning Al , Gina and Olivia. I'm really hatjng Sundays and Wednesdays. I love your channel. Thank you all so much for being here for us. I love watching all of you working together and cooking together. What did you name Rusty's place. I wanted it named Rusty's Harem. Can't wait to see what your big Spring project is. Have a great day. It is 48 degrees this morning in Clinton, Il.
Hi time I feel same way so on Sunday and Monday I go back and binge watch some of the older lumnah vlogs lol on Kentucky and Indiana and Illinois State line in Kentucky lolhi neighbor
Hiya, another great video, thank you. A suggestion, the metal gate you go through to get to New Yoke City, take the chain off, hook the hook on the chain into the eye on the wooden post, put the chain in the chain catch on the gate. No need to feed the chain through the eye bolt ever time... Saves time & effort. I'm good at seeing things backwards. Take care & stay safe... Steve...
I am guessing greenhouse build to compliment the raised bed. I was sitting here helping you throw that rope, hope it helped. Good looking scones Gina, I have a craving now to make some. Livy's hair is gorgeous, she must of inherited from mom.
there is an easy way to get your rope through the branches of the tree, take a piece of string long enough to reach where you wannt go and back down again, tie some weight on the end of the string, which you can easily throw through the branches of your tree. then tie the loose end of the string to the larger rigging rope and pull it up and through
I agree. We’ve had breakup going on for a few days - not enough to melt as much snow as has melted where you are but it’s supposed to snow again in the next couple days. Boo to Mother Nature! Snow snow go away already even! At least our days are getting longer. It’s light till 8 pm-ish! Yay for light! Soon we’ll have 12 hours of daylight then it increases really fast to 20-22 hours quickly. Gotta love spring (when it finally gets here) and summer in Alaska !
Al, have you thought of using the trees, that you cut down, for fire wood instead of having it all chipped. I can see getting the brush chipped or burned but the tree trunks and larger branches would work well in your furnace.
There are a few channels that I look forward to my daily fix of homesteading enjoyment. Your channel is one of them. Depending on when it comes out, I watch it from anyone of 5 sources! I only subscribe on one, but I love your content!
A lot of gardeners & farmers are going to try doing this. I've had to adjust my garden plan, to fulfill my need for a year list. Ill have to use vacation time to get canning/freezing/dehydrating done, but I don't take vacation anyway, lol.
The goat sweater is awesome. As always another great volg. Can't wait to see what next. Any thoughts about collecting the rain water from the barn to help water the goats and the other animals this summer. Gravity-fed automatic water's would be awesome to see you do. Save you time caring it around you're Homestead.
I've been using the 2 stroke canned gas in mine and it works a lot better than pump gas. Don't have to take it to the saw shop every year to have the carburetor rebuilt. Lasts a lot longer than the pump gas between uses too.
Pretty light transmission and transfer case.. didn't have to work hard on the tree but be careful. That's why the seals went out on Kabota. You run it with front tires in air when bucket down and spin tires ripping seals. Especially in cold, if can disengage front end when using bucket down pressure would be best.
With the space you are clearing, I'm thinking green house. That will sure extend your growing season to feed you all year long. Sorry about the snow coming, I know that at this time of the year it is not desirable at all. How is your maple sap doing, is it getting warm enough in the afternoons to get it flowing? I hope when it does, y'all do as well as they are in Michigan. I saw one of the homesteaders brought in something like 70 gals. from 10 trees. Love scones. I like marmalade on mine. Have a Blessed day.
Scones with peanut butter and honey ... Grind frozen cranberries ... Or make them thinner and sandwich a dollop of smooshed strawberries in the middle ... Like a filled donut ... Or strawberry jam taquitos ...
My mom used to make scones, only other ppl called it ‘fry bread’. She’d make homemade bread and the leftover dough she’d fry it up and slather it with honey butter. Yum. (At my hometown festivals there’d always be a booth that’d sell them and the line would always be the longest wait.) We’ve never made English scones.
I think it’s a requirement that you overfill the bar/chain oil. I know it happens to me every time, lol 😂. Oh well, I figure a little extra on the bar won’t hurt! Keep up the great work 👍!
Good morning, Al. The homestead is looking great. All your hard work is adding up. I thought I had a good idea of the layout of your property, but now I'm not so sure. Could you maybe give is a drone view of the stead? Start from way up high? Also, looks like CWC left her replacement squad for this season. 😁 Stay healthy.
Use NON-Ethanol gas in all your small motors and they will not give you the problems that regular gas gives. The corn alcohol eats the plastic tubes and tiny gaskets in carburetors. I got that from a "small motor" mechanic and since taking his advise, my equipment always starts and I have not had to take them in for repair every year.
Ill take that. It was 37 deg. This morning. Now its 44. I'm in New York In the middle of all the crazy people. Got phone call from stressed out, social worker who needs to go into mental lock down. Hi Al! You should check into renting a skid loader with a tree sheer attachment. It would make short work out of clearing out those smaller trees and its great for clearing the fence lines of brush. Daniel on Arms Family Homestead made a few videos about 3 weeks ago when he rented one. You should watch the tree sheer in action. Very cool machine!
Good afternoon y’all, hope all is well got though another day of work in this crazy world. Thankful to get to watch after a long day! Y’all stay safe god is good!
No Al! Blueberries are for muffins, raisins are for scones! Then you open it up, smeer butter on and strawberry jam, whipped or clotted cream on top. Thats how you eat a scone! Also optional where I cone from is open up, butter and then grated cheese. Yum!
Good Mawning Lumnah’s!!!! Is the new project a greenhouse? Can’t wait to see! We have the same weather as you and received about 2 inches and it is already melted. Spring on!!!!
Watched what was the second first then checked the in box and saw there was a second one. What a difference a day makes. With clean a big are can there be a two car garage in the future
Al you should check the gap on spark plug , they are not always correct, scones looked good ,but have you ever tried putting a milk and egg wash on the top before cooking , gives a nice finish to them . Stay well
A Vanilla or Lemon glaze would be perfect! 1 to 1 1/2 cups of Powdered sugar. Add a small amount of Water, whole milk, and vanilla or lemon zest. Mix.Test for thickness, add more PS if necessary. Take a Ziplock bag, turn down the edge and place in a medium size glass. Then take your glaze and add it to the bag, seal up the bag, clip a small hole in the corner and drizzle over your scones. Yo, mate! Absolutely love the channel. I've been following for quite a bit now. Learned tons new things. Very much appreciated! I like to also follow Steve's Small Engine Saloon. Split the scone and add butter while warm, or... split when cool and add clotted or thick whipped cream and strawberry or raspberry jam/preserves. For a savoury scone, grated mature cheddar cheese and white ground pepper for the extra bite. Again split while warm and spread with butter.
Good idea "looking thru the window"! Might consider a mirror suspended from "brooder wall" to see entire floor of brooder on these cold mornings, you will have to be really creative to suspend it from proper angle to see the whole floor. God Bless y'all!
craisins in the scones or muffins are yummy too. Blueberries dehydrated are good to have around, besides the craisins are my two favorites . Clip the feathers off one of the wings and they wouldn't be able to fly out of the hen yard. We always had a few escapees and had to do it and after that, there wasn't any more escapees.
get a small dish soap bottle when it's empty clean out and fill with bar oil. you can squeeze it in and when you stop it sucks oil back in and no over fill. it's what I use.
Thank you for such a peaceful video during an uneasy time. It eased a lot of anxiety for me. 😊

Use your wire pulling twine and a bolt to throw up in a tree. Then it is easy to pull your bigger rope up in the tree.
Have you checked the air filter on it also? How about stacking for firewood and smoker wood. Smaller limbs make nice kindling for both also
