I've found this series unmissable from the beginning, and this was terrific! I didn't know about York Road until I missed a stop and went through a weird closed station before I could turn around and return! I'm curious about whether images taken will be going into the LTM collection because I'm like others who probably go to the abandoned stations site, which seems to have a load of urban explorer type images taken a long time ago... Well done to the team, this Hang-Out has been unbelievably good and long may it continue!

Happy birthday team! What a year it's been, watching every episode of the Hangouts. While we haven't had it anywhere near as hard here in Brisbane as you've had in London, the series has still been a great distraction and something to look forward to every weekend.
Loved the end shot of this week's episode; it's amazing to think how many people a day go past there commuting in and out of London and don't even realise what's there.

Happy birthday to the Fab Four. Such a great episode, and an answer to the question about whether you are allowed to clean up the tiles. I always used to look out for York Road when travelling on the Piccadilly Line.

Birthday Greetings Fab Four!! Another intriguing episode that leaves us gagging for more. Can’t believe it all started a year ago but thank goodness you all got together and decide to put the Hangouts on. Although I shall never meet you in person I now feel I know you enough to count you as ‘virtual friends’, so my thanks to you all. By the way I told my 47 year old son about the Post Office Museum episode, which he always wanted to go to, so I think we may have a new HLH recruit!!

York Road was renamed York Way in 1938 a few years the station closed.
Another Interesting fact when the Piccadilly was originally built Apart from York Road and Caledonian Road, Kings Cross Piccadilly station was also built step free access.

The "piece of conduit" with the letter "S" behind it, looks like a Pyrotenax cable. ("Pyro" for short) They were (maybe still are) used in places there is a risk of fire. Petrol stations had to be wired entirely in Pyro. Fire alarm systems in commercial and industrial buildings had to be wired in Pyro.

Congrats on an entire year of HLH! I've seen every minute of every episode, and most of the Patreon extras (Patreon's taking my money but not recognising me as a Patreon member, so I gotta sort that out). When these episodes started a year ago, as a hard core Tube nerd, I kept wondering why these nice presenters talked so much! But after fast forwarding to the station investigation bits, I realised that they are experts, and a lot of detail and history is discussed in the run up to the station footage. I've posted many episodes on my Friday Reads column at LondonReconnections.com so that others might discover them too.

I’ve always dreamed of buying and old tube station and turning into a house but a weird house based around original aspects of the tube station. Like the platform, some old rolling stock, etc. Or maybe a hotel under the same vein that would seem at points just like a normal tube station that you live in but with cool design elements, Haven’t watched the vid yet but York RD, or Down Street or some other central locale would be amazing.

At (04:04) we have one of those questions of the age.
" Jenkinson! Draw from records for me the last memo will you? Where to garrison we whom also serve, here in the LT Executive div."
" Did the members come to a decision, sir? "
"Wehhlll... Dover Street or York Road, Dover Street or York ...
Years Jameson, yes we did, though it was dashed difficult you understand."
"Jenkins, sir and yes, yes I do."

Happy first birthday! I have a question: when Chris and Siddy are hiding near the fan and Alex and Laura are coming down the stairs...who is moving the camera? All 4 of you are accounted for elsewhere; did you find an obliging ghost to act as camera operator?

    • @alexgrundon2346
      @alexgrundon2346 3 года назад +1

Yes George. Yorkie is the resident ghost at York Road. Quite obliging and pretty good with a zoom lens. You actually hear his voice when you see me cleaning the tiles later in the episode - he (yes, Yorkie is male - the spirit incarnation of the fan engineer of yesteryear) asks me if I also clean kitchens and bathrooms...). Yorkie is quite witty too.

Great video. Surely, in 2023 there is finally a case for the reopening of York Road?? ...the demand is there....and where once the surrounding area was sparse (considering how central it is), it's now full of new office buildings.
Don't understand why its reopening is still being refused. Though if it did reopen, it would be known as 'York Way'....unless they change the name of the road back to its original name?

If only York Road could be restored. Just wondering (typing) out loud - the main entrance / exit is sealed off, at a guess for the Victor printing company and whoever was there before them (if anyone)...where as the disused station entrance goes through the old Bingfield Street exit, past the bricked up exit lift shaft and breeze blocked booking hall on the right...seeing as the gents still very much exists, the ladies toilets were literally straight ahead where the first set of stairs are going down from ground level, inbetween the gents and ladies was some kind of room / space, a storage area perhaps, but they're bricked up.
I wonder if they've been incorporated into whoever has the ground floor business. Likely the old ladies toilets have been replaced by newer ones, and the other room turned into some kind of kitchen - unless the whole lot still exists but totally bricked up. Would be incredible to find out.
I'd have to clean the soot off those tiles though. Make them shine again, far more authentic than being covered in all that dirt. Absolutely love York Road. My childhood memories of Caledonian Road before it was refitted with new lifts are a bit faded now, but the layout really does look similar. Happy times.
