My wish came trough , I live not too far from this spot. I have visited this boat many times and my wish was to paint this . Now I know how . 🙏👏👍🎨👩🎨 I also took many pictures from this boat, in real sky is blue and you see the blue sky reflecting in foreground water.
This was incredible and so informative. Absolutely love line and wash but can find it intimidating. This video broke it down into very easy to follow steps... definitely lessened the overwhelm. Thanks!
I have taken many images of this Pt. Reyes boat, many years ago, via camera, although at a different angle and at a higher or lower tide. It was just recently that I am now trying pen and watercolor and while perusing images of pen and wash found your beautiful watercolor. Fortunately, I was able to get the images before it had caught fire but it still has some charm. So I glad I found this vid. Nicely done!
So nice! I love your layering technique and attention to detail on this piece, when pen and wash is usually ‘messy’ and not so detailed. It really makes all the difference...and a very excellent choice of reference material.
Matt, I just signed up for a years classes. I love your teaching style. I consider myself a beginner. I used to draw and got away from it so I want to strengthen my drawing so I’ll be a better artist. My husband has health issues so I spend the majority of my time for maintaining our home and caring for him. I need time for my art so I’ll try getting into these classes as I can. Love this boat. I’m going to try it!
Love your technique with layering the colors. The subject matter is wonderful also. Watercolors are a little more Intimidating working from light to dark. You succeed in making it loose and free flowing. Love your teaching style. Thanks for sharing
Mat, you are great. You have a pleasing and very informative voice. This painting is so well done and you have narrated it so well. Thanks for all you do.
i know Im asking randomly but does any of you know a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I somehow forgot the login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me.
@Mark Cory Thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and Im trying it out now. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I thoroughly enjoyed seeing this. In addition to being talented and skilled, you are also knowledgeable and gifted. You have the perfect voice, demeanor, patience, and disposition for artistic video instruction. This is my first viewing of "watching-you-at-work" and I am already looking forward to seeing your other tutorials. Beginning, budding watercolorists need more instruction/demonstrations like this. Keep up the good work!
So interesting and skillfully done. Your technique and reasons why you did a particular wash were so well done. So nice that it wasn't a time lapse. I will be following you on my own journey with pen and ink and watercolor. Thank you for sharing.
I really enjoyed your video. The explanations were very helpful and informative. You definitely are a much better artist than I am but I will keep at it. Thank you for your great work.
I've driven by this boat many times -- it's still there, behind the Inverness Store, in Inverness, CA, part of Point Reyes National Seashore. Can't wait to follow along and try this.
I love your style of watercolor and pen/ink. And thank you so much for this tutorial which helps beginners like me. You have such a calm soothing voice too. Can you give us the names of your Cotman colors? If my palette only has 12 colors, which Winsor Newton colors would you suggest I have to be able to mix most anything? I would appreciate the feedback. Thanks
Thank you for this detailed tutorial. This sort of video shows that youtube can be the most powerful teaching tool ever developed. One question;it can be difficult to determine the true time taken to produce the final product. I will dabble at projects I see but have trouble devoting more than 2-3 hours. How long to create this final project as a reference? Gives me an idea of what level of quality I can expect with the time I am willing to devote. Thanks.
I loved it, today I will buy a new set of watercolors paint, and I was wondering how paintings were going to look with ink liners, my two favorite styles look amazing 😍
Thank you for another beautiful painting and great tutorial. Looking forward (although very scared :)) to try a follow along. That "pause" button is going to get pressed a lot!
Still love "Virtual Instructor". Retirement forced letting my membership lapse. Have you created a senior citizens' membership? p.s. the big difference when learning with Matt is to listen as well as watch.
I love this look....and as soon as I’m finished all your great drawing classes I’m going to give it a try!! I also loved the music background...could you provide the name of the piece?
Beautiful. I love the demonstration. I'm beginning to paint again now that I'm retired and I think I love the pen and wash style better, although I am still trying other styles. I notice that most artist keep pen and wash to small sizes. What be be the largest or best size painting for pen and wash?
Good question. You’re correct though Ray Most of the you tube videos for line and wash look as if they’re A5. This demo looked as if it was A4 size paper. I look forward to Matt’s response.
I like to say thanks for the video it’s help me get back into my art again. Question how far ahead do you think about where to put your paint or is it spontaneous. Thanks again
Very good demonstration and a beautiful picture at the finish. But did you have to pre stretch the paper before you started the picture, you did not mention whether you did or not in the demonstration.
Hello Matt, A key question for me: When you are doing the initial light pencil drawing, are you tracing over a photograph that you took. Or are you drawing freehand by sight as you look at the photograph? Thanks for this video.
Sorry if by any chance you talked about this already, if you did, I didn't catch it! Quick question is you could help me... Does alcohol (india) ink stain porcelain/ceramic palette? Or does it wipes away like watercolors? I'm about to buy my first inks and don't want to ruin my watercolor palette!
I am in awe of your drawing skills. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
One of the best tutorials I’ve watched in pen ink watercolour well created.
Me too.
This is the best painting tutorial I have watched. Very detailed explanations, I learnt a lot.
Many thanks. I am paying for college classes but have learnt more from your one video! You give so much information and reasoning. It’s great!
So inspired to try this one. Thank you for the detailed tutorial.
Very helpful!!!!! Thank you so much
So much more satisfying and informative to watch than just a speed-painting.
Your paintings are amazing
I loved watching you work your magic on this painting. Thank you for the lovely tutorial.
Wow just wow
Bravo ! Inspiring !
Thanks for sharing your painting technique. Really appreciate it.

Love love love, please do more ink and watercolour tutorials 🙏
Koliko ti ih treba da naučiš tehniku?
@@giorgiogrlj It's exactly that kind of response that discourages young artists and eventually leads to them giving up.

I have photographed that boat many times. It’s nice to see a watercolor version thanks for sharing
Love this style, Matt. The soft, muted colours reminds me of the plate illustrations in treasured old books.

Thank you very much you have given a true teacher giving an apt lesson to students
I sincerely will follow and will post
It would take me forever just to draw the boat after which I would be too terrified to paint it. Wonderful work .
You are an excellent teacher. Thank you for your help and instructions and inspiration.
Wonderful tutorial, Matt! It made me break out my water colors. I plan to re-watch it and try to follow along as best I can!
Your paintings are exactly what I am looking for, I will try this technique in the future.
