    Thx a lot for this guide, especially for dissembling. I got this keyboard since 2010 and today after 12 years I did proper first deep cleaning. I got my keyboard again like fresh new and shiny! Thank you!

    Cleaned and ready for another 16 years of use. I was stunned by the improvement, I assumed most of my grime/stiff buttons were permanent by now - but a soak in some soapy water and a shower and it feels like a new keyboard all around.
    Also had problems with the clips around the FN buttons (9:35), for me they simply refused to come loose. The back of the clip is kind of [ shaped, and I cut down the protrusions of the ones that were stuck with a knife and could finally get them loose. The holes are simply too small for the clips to get through.
    Thanks for a good guide!

    You're like the best guy to go to for tutorials. I loved all the tutorials I saw from you.
    You explain things very well, you use great camera angles to record and you actually KNOW how to do the things you're making the tutorial for!

    I've got an older version of the G15 with an adjustable LCD section and cleaned it this afternoon. It's a little bit different in that after removing the bottom screws you can flip it and remove the top black outer section (do it with the LCD fully extended as the flat cable is the longest). Then you could unscrew the top section and clean the keys.
    Or you can just leave it assembled and just clean it with a vacuum cleaner and a mildly wet tooth brush cleaning it with the keys down so all the crap falls out the right way. It will save you a lot of time this way.

    Thank you man!! Youre the cause that i have clean and fixed my keyboard. One key today began failing.
    My G15 already has 5-6 years and i never cleaned it. I several times have spilled coca cola, yerba (a Paraguayan tea), juice, etc on my keyboard. And it is working 100% again. And thanks for the detailed work and instruction. Greetings from Paraguay.

    Nice video, just cleaned my g15 v2 after watching it, never cleaned it since I brought it about 5 years ago. What a mess inside, not to mention I have a budgie that loves to stand on the keyboard a lot so you can imagine what was in there lol. Did have to pull it apart again after testing as I'd forgotten to make sure the metal bar on the larger keys were positioned under the plastic tabs but I'll remember that one for next time.

    I would recommend looking up a tutorial on that keyboard is one is available, if not follow mine, but take the information with a grain of salt as it will not be 100% the same

    Well I followed this video and thank you a ton, works now like new. The only complaint I have is the music was annoying nut thats just me. I rather watch an instructional video with no music. And I ended up putting to much pressure on the lcd screen and broke it. Wee,, so anyways Overall great video.

    • @Orvis25
      @Orvis25  11 лет назад

      I understand but most people do not show EVERYTHING and i find that annoying in instructional video's. That is why in the annotations i put "skip" buttons to skip over the FF sections that show me putting / cleaning / reassembling the keyboard so that if anyone wanted to not see 100% of the work required, they can.
      Plus everyone has their own music tastes. So no offense taken.
      I appreciate the constructive criticism.
      ps: yes those LCD's are fragile, why i never really mess with it.

    The key tabs are strong enough to just push up from topside, this way shown is so slow and a waste of time. After popping up keys put them in a colander with a mesh or something above and then put both the keyboard and keys into the dishwasher on a low temperature and after washed put in airing cupboard / boiler cupboard for 24+ hours and it'll be perfectly clean. If certain keys don't work you need to let it dry in the cupboard for longer or/and open the back to realign the plastic sheet circuitry.
    I've done this to over 15 different keyboards, 5+ times each including my G15 ten times since '09

    • @Orvis25
      @Orvis25  10 лет назад +2

      I prefer to do things the "safe" way, and would rather not have my keys heated up even marginally as it is very thing abs plastic.
      Feel free to make your own video though with your method.

    • @RyansUps
      @RyansUps 10 лет назад

      This way is not the safe way, the keys are designed to be removed from the top not the bottom a simple way to prove this is just look at all of the "key removal tools" out there they all remove from the top side.
      As for heating them up, do you not realise how keyboards are made? The keys themselves are made in pressurised heat moulds (they can withstand a lot of heat) and then they are sprayed with paint or in some cases with or without a stencil and they are put through a heat fanned furnace/dryer which puts them through much more heat than a low-heat mode on your dish washer so they can definitely withstand the heat.
      Regardless of that, if you're seriously that worried just put the keys in a bowel of warm water and wash them outside of the dishwasher.
      My (the) way I said is quite clearly very safe as it's the most common way of cleaning them and for me alone by math I've washed 80 keyboards and none of them have broken, none have had deformed keys, none have had any damage and ALL worked perfectly.

    • @Orvis25
      @Orvis25  10 лет назад +1

      RyansUps
      I would say that my way is actually safer as long as you do not press the key locking tabs further than need be, rather than using excessive friction and force to pull the locking tab off the plastic wall.
      everyone says their own way, i chose this way, and i feel it is safer.
      And keys can be pressed with molten plastic, but plastic is also susceptible to cracking once heated and cooled enough times, so i also prefer this for the "longevity" of the keyboard.

    • @RyansUps
      @RyansUps 10 лет назад

      orvis8
      Trying to be smart mentioning friction and force when pulling the keys out is hilariously stupid, They go through more friction force when you're using the keys normally during typing!
      Clearly you don't know the properties of ABS plastics, the reason they use it in keyboards is because of their high tolerances and high heat resistances, it could go through thousands of heat cycles before showing any damage. Most dish washers heat up to around 50-65*C with industrial ones heating up to 55-75*C but ABS plastic will hold very strong to temperatures up to 80*C and could go even higher, but it will start melting at 100*C and higher.

    • @Orvis25
      @Orvis25  10 лет назад

      RyansUps
      You understand that when pressing a key down, it dose not put the key lock tabs under and force. The only force they experience under normal use is from the rubber contact mat pressing them back up, and the key lock tabs stopping it form going through the front of your keyboard.
      And you are correct i am not well versed in ABS plastic wide use due to its characteristics and "properties", but i am aware that under stress form heating and cooling it will eventually crack, that is why i do not recommenced washing it in a dishwasher that is heated. Another reason ABS materials say to not store in direct sunlight, or high / extreme low temperature areas.
      So i do not know why you need to criticize me by claiming i am acting smart by voicing my own opinion, that happens to be opposite to yours, but you sound like an immature person to do so.
