Yeah definitely no camel rides for me if I ever went back BUT it's been soooo interesting seeing everyone's response to this. There's such a range of emotions when it comes to this whether you've been there or not. Tourism areas are full of hasslers who are just looking for your money. Go eat in the places Egyptians like to go eat...Sobhi Kaber, El Prins, El Fallah in Alexandria....Go to saint catherine mountains...or sukhna....Then afterwards you will kinda understand the culture more...then you can do a nile cruise from lurxor to aswan on one of the fancy boats for relaxation.

Egypt's been on my bucket list for ages and this video just makes me want to go even more. The clips of the tour guides and Egyptologist at the end was so endearing. Thank you for this video, super informative and gorgeous cinematography. Keep up the great work, you've got yourself a new sub :) x
Your tour guides will scam you, too. Unless you know someone there, expect to be scammed by everyone you meet. It happened to me. I paid extra for private tours and chauffeur services to ensure that my family felt safe. Ive made allowances when it came to the scams because I understood how poor some of them are. Our tour guide got a cut from all the shops we went to. I watched it all go down. They think we’re oblivious but we were all aware. Its a shame because return tourism is almost ensured a failure. All because of people who look at you like youre a walking atm
You shoud go i just came from egypt its indiscribable the beauty of that country. And people even is safe to go by your self .its a must to go i wish that im still there
Thanks for the video, Will. It’s disheartening that the locals have to resort to such desperate measures. The Egyptian government has definitely failed them. However, I will be backpacking there for a month in the upcoming months.
This is a great, honest content. I traveled around Egypt many times in last 5 years. Made awesome videos there too. Good to know what to expect in this beautiful country. Totally worth see this cinematic place! Just don't bring the drone (they might confiscate it at the airport, that however should not ruin your trip, as it's about local people and history, more than who's currently ruling the country). Thanks @goingawesomeplaces
This is a great video that covered many of the same things we experienced during our trip in 2021. Go with a reputable tour company. That is my best recommendation. Regarding the camels; our guide arranged our ride, so that we weren't taken advantage of, and we rode for probably close to an hour; mabe. I wasn't exactly keeping track of the time. I was too busy holding on and trying to keep from face planting in the sand. While I'm glad I rode the camel; for the experience; I wouldn't do it again. We had a wonderful trip though. I can't wait to go again.
On my first trip to Egypt with Memphis and when we booked the Dahabiya with them I realized it was actually operated from Djed. Memphis have their own guides too so you can definitely look at both.
Thank you, I will make sure things you didn't like are heard by the ministry of tourism and I hope soon something can be done about it. Just a tip, if you dont want people to hassle you just answer them with arabic and say "shokran". You are welcome back anytime soon :)
We are going for our first trip and i appreciate your thoughts video. Helpful. And it is very important distinction between aggressive distructive behavior (unsafe) and just some people insisting verbally to sell you stuff which is just annoying. (that remains in safe category since they do not actually do harm to anyone)
My husband and I went to Cairo in 1983. We took the camel riding tour to the pyramids. My guide was extremely aggressive. He kept asking for his tip. He lagged behind the rest of the group and separated me from my husband. He pointed toward the open desert and attempted to lead my camel off the road. I was young, so I pointed toward a woman on a nearby camel and shouted “mom”! She picked up on my distress and demanded the man leave me alone. Fears of being abducted flooded my mine.
Thank you for sharing that story. It sounds like not that much has changed since the 80s. They’re still aggressive because it isn’t well policed. I think the difference is that it’s a well-known issue. Luckily for us our guides were very up-front about the experience and warned us ahead of time so we were better protected in that way. That’s why it’s definitely better to travel with local trusted guides to make sure you’re better prepared.
I'm Egyptian and I'm totally sorry for that bad situation even though it's been long time ago and that aggressive guide but now its different and Egypt is more safe now compared that time ,it's been while far 80th and bad peoples everywhere not just Egypt, hope u vist Egypt again and have a good time and tell a nice story, good bless u🌹
The video is so informative and beautifully made, can anyone tell me the place on 12.49, i would love to go there on my egypt trip on january with my son, he just loves museums!!
Amazing thoughts. Thank you for such an honest and beautiful video of yours. Tells a lot about the people, the environment, the positives, and the negatives. As you said in the video, the worst part may come from the hassling and tipping culture that is widely imposed on tourists, but those can be easily dealt with if you know what to do. Otherwise, it is a pleasant and beautiful country filled with life and charm. Thank you again.
Like any big city, there are safe places (Zamalek Island was awesome) and there are places that are not. The Egyptian people who are not selling you anything are really nice and helpful. I wish my tour guides would have taken us to the regular stores instead of the bazars. There are metal detectors to get into most buildings or tourist sites. If you travel in/out of certain cities the police stop your vehicle. If you are American, the tour company needs to contract a police escort but that adds to the cost of the tour. Our tour guide would tell them we were British. When we went to Mt. Sini there was a military escort. So, they do spend a lot on security for tourists.
Hi. Thank you for the Egypt Travel Video. I plan to visit Egypt once The Grand Egyptian Museum opens to the public. I wish you would have taken some video footage of the construction site. I believe most of the exterior building is completed. They are now finishing the interior and starting to move in antiquities. I cannot wait! Video was very useful in dealing with locals and expectations.
I wish we got to drop by the Grand Egyptian Museum but didn’t have time unfortunately. Excited for its opening!! I’m glad you found the video useful :)
You are welcomed at our country anytime and the bad experiences with some local traders even bothers us Egyptains and we hope this can end soon...so don't think Egyptains are like this ...also waiting for the opening of the grand egyptain museum💖
@@mahmoudhazem Thank you, Mr. Hazem. Please know i did not mean any disrespect to you or to Egypt. I have traveled but mostly in Europe. I have been waiting for a decade to see this gift to humanity. Please enjoy your day.
I just got off a reddit thread that emphasized how dangerous Egypt still is for women. This, honestly, is something a male traveler will probably not see.
For sure, that’s something we as a group didn’t see but I’d say that’s why Egypt is the kind of place you want a guided experience. There were two females and two males in our specific group and on the Dahabiya about the same split and we didn’t notice any issues at all.
It’s hard to say. We travelled with a diverse group on the Nile and there we didn’t notice any difference in how we were treated (ie the stalls trying to lure us in). I think for the most part all tourists are treated similarly for better or for worse.
@@Dariush_qxe3 In Egypt we don't see people by their origins or colors , we all humans, it doesn't matter if you're different , and if you came one day I hope you would have a good time
Safety is function of familiarity with your surroundings if you have booked an hotel and you have your guide and your plans would be enough but if you don't and you are going to roam streets in a country that you don't speak their language and they don't speak yours don't expect to end up with an amazing story it is same if any Arab travelled to Europe without speaking English
I am going! I am not worried about any gossip. I have many friends from Lebanon, and all over the middle east. They all tell me that Egyptians are the warmest people in the middle east. Safe, fun, and amazing history.
I was with a group of friends - 2 guys, 2 girls. I definitely know plenty of people that have gone to Egypt solo. What I'd recommend though is going with a local guide/company just to avoid some of the issues.
I love helping folks experience Egypt without the hassle and helping them avoid anything that might waste their time or money. I'm glad you got to experience my second home, and I hope others make their way to Egypt too!
I am from Egypt, I went this summer June 25th 2021, It is incredibly fun and safe, although it might seem like it is Egypt has improved and is a place tourist go a lot, btw the driving has no lanes and the driving is very scary but it works
Well, I mean... you guys give too much attention to these vendors. Usually I just pass through and ignore them. But thank you for the warning! Will definitely pay attention to all of that when I go! 👍
Everybody thought California's had traffic jams look at Egypt it's unbelievable you could imagine a pollution there too but it's a wonderful place to visit the sightseeing is fantastic and don't forget to bring your camera they have gorgeous gift shops there so he's good to come back with a souvenir
Tbh as an Egyptian I think our government should really focus most on cairo since it holds such history. But at the moment coastal cities like Alexandria ,Marsa Matruh and the tourist places in sinai like dahab etc are better overall imo. Tho Cairo holds so much history it's so populated and many parts of it are polluted.Luxors fine too only issue is it gets so hot there, same goes for Sinai
@@GoingAwesomePlaces he had a bad experience in Egypt . Look up his video on Egypt , they confiscated his camera equipment till he left. So he recorded on an iPhone.
I have been Egypt, and it is one of the most beautiful place on earth. I found dealing with locals are the best. Anytime that I have a problem as an African American, my problem is solved. I am still friends with the people in Hurdgha, Egypt. I like the fact that Egypt is not destroyed like many of countries I traveled, like Dubai. The beauty of Egypt;t is still in tact. I have been in Aswan, the same thing. Luxor is beautiful as well. I had no bad experience with the camel vendors. It's funny, nothing like this in the STATES? I live in the STATES, and it is the same hustling of venders. Why try to make Egypt look bad?
I visited Egypt in Jan 2018, I did have the camel ride in the Pyramids; I think I was lucky because there were not a lot of tourists; I even got a clean picture of me riding the camel. It did not feel like a short time at all. I think it is all a matter of 'when' you do your visit. Appart from it, I can confirm that is safe; I visited it when I was 22 years old and I went ALONE, and had no major issues :D I'm definitely going back!
I was in Egypt, from the top to the bottom. 28 days vacation, I did not use a tour company, go bus, and took took drivers. I never had any problems. The police checked my 10 passports and visa. No problems I walked almost everywhere. At the market shopkeepers will drive you crazy with them wanting you to buy. But I would only say no, no thank, no. And keep on walking. They give up quickly if you don’t say anything else. The people, history and the food, are the best. Do your research, so you full understand the price of everything if the seller can they will take your money for a higher price. Outside of that enjoy your trip. I do when I go.
Thank you for sharing your experiences! I too took this approach. The best way is to know what to expect before you go so nothing shocks you too much with some of the culture elements and mainly the shopkeepers. I'm glad that you had a great experience in Egypt!
Somewhat agree with your comments. I didn’t feel safe in Giza at all. I would highly recommend a guide to even walk around the markets. The people are extremely pushy and can be intimating. We got followed on multiple occasions and the locals didn’t take a kind no as an answer. Luxor, however was a lot more easy going. We were able to walk alone without any aggression. The shop tactics are very common. This happened to us for lunch where lunch was included and for ‘free’. Drinks were additional and they charge absolutely ridiculous pricing for drinks. (Coca Cola 200 pounds) I appreciate tipping and understand that it’s important for them. On one occasion I tipped a man 10 pounds and he got very angry with me and said ‘this is little money’
Thanks for sharing your story. They can definitely get a bit aggressive. Having a local guide really made things easier because I could ask what we needed to be aware of and they often acted as a nice shield especially if we walked through markets with them.
I'd say yes but with some asterisk around it. Many have done it for sure and lately but you have to know what to expect, travel smart, beware of scams, and ideally work with a local guide that you can trust.
My husband and I are planning to go in January 2021. We are a lot older ..in our 70s. Worried that we will stand out especially that there will be not that many Americans that will be going because of COVID. 0s are still pretty active but will not be in a large group tour. My daughter and her husband (almost in their 50s) will come with us. I did not see many American looking senior citizens there. Just curious for your opinion.
That’s a great question. The two times we travelled in Egypt, we encountered plenty of older travellers (always young in spirit!) especially on our Dahabiya cruises. If you watch that video you’ll see that there was quite a wide range of travellers with us. Through the local operator we travelled with, we felt safe the entire time and they made sure we were always taken care of. In that, I’d say it doesn’t matter what age you are. I’d probably avoid travelling on your own. Private group travel is the way to go in my opinion and of course the Nile cruise with a small number of other passengers.
Thanks for u honesty I live in egypt and it has nice people maybe not that fancy but I love my country ❤ 💙 Did u have any issues while contacting with people like language?
"Oh it's actually 100$ to get off the camel." My first thought was "... ok, bye." And just leave while on the camel lol. On that note, how fast are camels??

I have traveled many time to Egypt on multiple occasion and different territories. Its one of the safest country i have ever been and the people are amazing. If you know how to deal with the pushy sellers then you will have no problem at all. good advise: learn a few sentence in Arabic like "no thank you" "please leave us" etc........ the people respect they own language and will stop harrasing you if you speak to them in they own words. But in all its one of my favorite country to travel due to the endless things you can do and the great hospitality of the people.

I heard about this from two friends of mine who never met each other, my co-worker who is Jordanian Arab Muslim and my barber who is Assyrian Christian from Iraq. They both told me, I'm going to get scammed by the Egyptian locals and the locals will ask you for tips for directions. My Assyrian Christian barber told me the restaurants are not clean. Her sister and her sister's two friends visited Egypt and they both got food poisoning from eating at a restaurant. I also plan on going to Jordan to see the Lost City of Petra and other historical sites in Jordan. My friends told me that people in Jordan are very nice and are curious about foreigners that come to their country and the restaurants there are clean.
I've had food poisoning in the US. I've also had homeless people follow me heckling for money. What I'm saying is none of these behaviors are unique to Egypt. They are unique to cities and humans.

Best video about Egypt that i found on yt... I like the tone of your voice and how calm you talk about your experiance... You got a new sucriber sir... Best of luck from Serbia
Well at least an unbiased perspective for the good and the bad. Thank you for your review

Have a great trip! It's one of those things where if you know that's how tourism is, you'll be able to laugh it off. It's honestly not bad.
This video is sooooo useful and has a lot of the info that i needed for my upcoming trip to Egypt. THANK YOU!
Thanks for sharing this, it was very helpful and I appreciate it. I'm planning my trip to Egypt this year 🙏🏼
You’re welcome!!!
May I ask which tour company you travelled with ?
@@callanleslie2221 Memphis Tours
On my first trip to Egypt with Memphis and when we booked the Dahabiya with them I realized it was actually operated from Djed. Memphis have their own guides too so you can definitely look at both.
I'm looking to travel to Egypt and Jordan as well. Hopefully in 2023. I will look at Memphis tours. G Adventures looks pretty good as well.
Thank you, I will make sure things you didn't like are heard by the ministry of tourism and I hope soon something can be done about it. Just a tip, if you dont want people to hassle you just answer them with arabic and say "shokran".
You are welcome back anytime soon :)
Shokran means thank you in Egyptian Arabic.
Egypt is on my bucket list. Now I know what to expect. Thanks for the great video. 👍
Helped a lot planning trip in a few. Thanks.

🇪🇬My brother, welcome to you in Egypt
Love Egypt 🇪🇬!
We are going for our first trip and i appreciate your thoughts video. Helpful. And it is very important distinction between aggressive distructive behavior (unsafe) and just some people insisting verbally to sell you stuff which is just annoying. (that remains in safe category since they do not actually do harm to anyone)
Yeah that’s exactly right. Sure it was annoying but certainly not unsafe. Thanks for pointing that out.

Thank you again.
one day I will fly to Egypt cause this video shows some interesting things and I would like to feel this Egypt culture and learn their history.
I hope you get to go soon. I have a friend that’s travelling through there right now!
So, they do spend a lot on security for tourists.
um really proud being Egyptian
Egypt is awesome, one of my best travel destinations, but we need to be careful. Unfortunately, local sellers can be very annoying.
True. I have Egyptian friends. They would concur.
excellent coverage
Nice video, thank you for sharing. Very informative.

@@GoingAwesomePlaces A question mate, do Egyptians treat East Asians differently than they treat the Europeans ? I guess they are more respectful.
It’s hard to say. We travelled with a diverse group on the Nile and there we didn’t notice any difference in how we were treated (ie the stalls trying to lure us in). I think for the most part all tourists are treated similarly for better or for worse.
@@GoingAwesomePlaces Thank you. Hope to see more videos of your future travels.

In Egypt we don't see people by their origins or colors , we all humans, it doesn't matter if you're different , and if you came one day I hope you would have a good time
Safety is function of familiarity with your surroundings if you have booked an hotel and you have your guide and your plans
would be enough but if you don't and you are going to roam streets in a country that you don't speak their language and they don't speak yours don't expect to end up with an amazing story it is same if any Arab travelled to Europe without speaking English
I am going! I am not worried about any gossip. I have many friends from Lebanon, and all over the middle east. They all tell me that Egyptians are the warmest people in the middle east. Safe, fun, and amazing history.
Did you go by yourself?? I’m planning to go solo!
I was with a group of friends - 2 guys, 2 girls. I definitely know plenty of people that have gone to Egypt solo. What I'd recommend though is going with a local guide/company just to avoid some of the issues.

Hi baby, welcome to your second country, Egypt. I am a single young man❤️❤️❤️
You know what I love u ,u and ur beautiful words😂♥️♥️♥️

One of the best phrases for avoiding similar harassment is ‘not today, thanks’.
I visited Egypt in Jan 2018, I did have the camel ride in the Pyramids; I think I was lucky because there were not a lot of tourists; I even got a clean picture of me riding the camel. It did not feel like a short time at all. I think it is all a matter of 'when' you do your visit.
Appart from it, I can confirm that is safe; I visited it when I was 22 years old and I went ALONE, and had no major issues :D
I'm definitely going back!
An interesting, informative and (indeed) an entertaining video.
(Coca Cola 200 pounds)
I appreciate tipping and understand that it’s important for them.
Welp guess I'll just be viewing egypt through this phone or on tv 😂😂😂this is good enough for me 😊thank you
I plan to travel solo in egypt? Is it safe?
I'd say yes but with some asterisk around it. Many have done it for sure and lately but you have to know what to expect, travel smart, beware of scams, and ideally work with a local guide that you can trust.
Great video, I would LOVE to visit one day
You should go for it! Hope you get to go soon :)

I really want to visit
