Hope you guys enjoyed the NieR Automathon! I will be ignoring all comments on these vids and VOD uploads to avoid spoilers. See you at the end of the playthrough
I admit I burst out laughing at the fighter jet question, knowing where this plays in the game. Still, all of the music in the Nier games is laser targeted at your emotions, it's amazing, and they know how to play with those emotions too. Like that bit with the organ interlude, which got us used to the high notes, then cutting out completely for a second and then starting again but with low notes. It feels like almost a physical hit, the ears have just had like half a minute to reset from where we last heard them, and then not do any sort of lead in, just immediately two instruments thrumming low notes. Out of the songs in Automata, this one is definitely my favourite.
I'm afraid you'll be forced to go back to the rest of the series, Nier Replicant and Drakengard 3. no other series I can think of has been both a philosophical AND an emotional masterpiece in the same title different titles, sure, like Metal gear solid 2 and 3, but never the same game edit: and... i missed the word music in a thread on a video about music
symphonic metal should do the trick! check out the dutch band Epica, but there are a whole bunch of different groups exploring different aspects of the sound space since the 90s.
Hey there! I'm yer Captain and I'm here to help ya out: Nier Gestalt (2010) Nier Replicant 1.22 Nier Automata Drakengard 3 (1 and 2 might suit you. Try this one Drakengard 2 OST - Symphonic Poem ~ Forbidden Prelude) SINoALICE Voice of Cards The Fifth Element Movie OST (Eric Serra) Zone of the Enders (Beyond the Bounds) Ghost in the Shell (Torukia, Rise, Ballade of Puppets) Kingdom Hearts (mostly melodies, relatively few songs have spoken vocals, although choirs are used. Destati, Edsge of Existence, Stranded Beyond and Darkness of the Unknown) The Matrix (the third film Revolutions, try Navras and Neodammerung) Final Fantasy XV (Omnis Lacrima, Apocalypsis, Nox Divina, Hellfire, Magna Insomnia) Horizon: Forbidden West (Rusted Sands, has a similar feel to overworld themes such as City Ruins) Feel like I've written a lot here... Give 'em a listen, maybe give a response and tell me what works/doesn't? Maybe I can find something else
I really want to, but the publisher has gone to lengths to scour youtube of the original Nier's Shadowlord, so I'm legitimately afraid that it would cause a copyright strike on the channel. It's a shame, because I still consider it superior to the remaster's version.
This may be the only song in the entire soundtrack that reminds me somewhat of another great JRPG composer, Yuki Kajiura. The specific song I'm thinking of is Promised Pain from the Xenosaga Episode III OST, which I highly recommend Jesse also listen to!
Yeah, Godsibb is great, also. Been wondering when he might be introduced to Yuki Kajiura, Shiro Sagisu, and Motoi Sakuraba considering he's covered Uematsu and Okabe.
I loved the Torn from the heavens/dark colossus destroys all from Final Fantasy XIV, do give it a try! Although it's not as epic as the Weight of the world/Prelude and Kaine/Final Fantasy main theme, it still lingers in my heart as one of the best keiichi okabe/soken collaboration.
Truee, very Ace Combat vibes at times. And I haven't played huge amount of Nier but I think there might be a couple of '2d top down aircraft shooter' inspired minigames. I wonder if the composer sourced a little inspiration 😁
The Nier Replicant and Nier Gestalt versions of this music are so freaking cool too. I’d like to see you reacting to those versions of this music as well.
That's a great song. No doubt about it. If you can, you can react to certain Xenosaga franchise tracks like "Opening", "Gnosis" and "Omega" from Ep.1, "In the Beginning there was" from Ep.2 and "Minor Boss Battle", "Promised Pain", "Testament", "Hepatica" and "Battleland ver. 2" from Ep. 3. I know you'd like them :)
You are actually piloting flight units while this music plays. they are more of a flying mech suit but they do morph into a jet plane looking thing when they need to move fast.
This is an arrangement of a track back in the original Nier 2010. Now comes an interesting bit. The original Nier OST simply credits all of the music to a list of people (most being MONACA members) without specifying who did what. They still haven't properly credited the original music now, not even for the Nier Replicant remake/remaster. So there's almost no way to find out who originally did this track unless you do tons of cross-referencing and hope that some albums give you some clues. Once you did some searching, you can guess that Okabe alone composed the original "The Dark Colossus Destroys All" based on information from a mini album, but there might've been a different arranger. For "Dark Colossus - Kaiju" in NieR:Automata, the official credit is simply "Music by Keigo Hoashi, Keiichi Okabe", though that doesn't explicitly state the composer(s) and arranger(s).
"The Dark Colossus Destroys All" from Replicant and this song both have a place on my favorite boss themes list, but "Shadowlord" from Replicant is probably my number 1 favorite boss theme. You would love "Shadowlord" from Replicant since you like Organs
A little context: This is a rearrangement of a track from the original NieR Gestalt/Replicant, the original track was called "The Dark Colossus Destroys All". In the version you heard, they used more modern vocals and cleaner instruments, the individual instrumental parts are more thought out and they added this entirely new organ passage. Awesome way to bring back this classic! Also I see my name down there HEHE
This is in the FFXIV-Nier cross-over raid... Which is Canon btw. It's mixed with Torn From The Heavens (considered the official Warrior of Light theme and which is the source of MANY Leitmotifs in FFXIV). Anyway... I personally cannot wait for you to experience "This Cannot Contiunue/Be As Gods." That combo track is my personal favorite especially due to what it means to the early playthroughs of the game.
Uff. I've seen you react to Kings Court and Calamity for Project Wingman, but rly you're missing out on listening to Kings. Just so apocalyptic and so awesome.
Other good organ songs: Pandemonium from Final Fantasy IX Passacaglia from Suikoden He is My Master from Suiokden II Gothic Neclord from Suikoden II (though this one’s more electric organ than church organ) There’s also remixes of Bloody Tears from the Castlevania series on organ. Particularly, one called “Bloody Tears on Strahd’s Organ”.
I don't know if you've listened to Possessed by Disease yet, also from this game, but you really, really should Edit: Nevermind I just saw that video lol
1:54 Hahahah
xd
incredible
I’m not sure if anyone told you this or not but the main melody of this track is from “Dark Colossus Destroys All” from Neir Replicant/Gasalt
"Do you fly fighter jets in this game?"
Well uh... do flying combat units count?
👀
"Do you fly fighter jets in this game?"
...well, *technically* no. But let's just say I hope you like old school bullet hell shoot-em-ups.
Hope you guys enjoyed the NieR Automathon!

Damn, I was gonna tell you that you were the long lost heir of the Uncle clan and it's boundless riches. Oh well, on to the next in line
Dark Colossus Automata and Replicant 1.22 version are phenomenal. Gestalt (2010) version is still the best, in my opinion.
I admit I burst out laughing at the fighter jet question, knowing where this plays in the game.

I've been chasing for something that makes me feel like Nier music does since the game came out...and have failed spectacularly
I'm afraid you'll be forced to go back to the rest of the series, Nier Replicant and Drakengard 3. no other series I can think of has been both a philosophical AND an emotional masterpiece in the same title

Nier musics are just unique, there’s literally nothing like them. Even the language that they’re singing is exclusive to Nier and drakengard series.
symphonic metal should do the trick! check out the dutch band Epica, but there are a whole bunch of different groups exploring different aspects of the sound space since the 90s.

@@Ingisen I sadly am familiar with all this stuff already except the Zone of the Enders stuff lol but I appreciate the effort a great deal!
Get this man to listen to Shadowlord, especially if he likes organ

It's a shame, because I still consider it superior to the remaster's version.
"Am I excited for this or should I be terrified to death?" - Yes.
It was indiscriminate, relentless and thorough. No one in the conflict was spared. We were powerless against our collective colossal darkness.
This may be the only song in the entire soundtrack that reminds me somewhat of another great JRPG composer, Yuki Kajiura.

@@Velacroix I think he did react to Godsibb, but that might be the only Kajiura song he's heard.
Yuki Kajiura is simply amazing lol she does so many anime OSTs as well. Great ones including .hack//Sign and many Fate OSTs, Madoka Magica, etc
Both the original Replicant version and this one are great, they both really fit the feeling of fighting a massive threat.
Dude, you gonna love this game and the music will carry you to another dimension.
Jesse's gonna love seeing where this shows up at.

Your reaction to this one deserved a sub!
8:11 Nier osts just hit different lol
The Nier Replicant and Nier Gestalt versions of this music are so freaking cool too. I’d like to see you reacting to those versions of this music as well.
3:43 Yeah dude I like organs too. Not sure which one I'd say is my favorite but the liver seems like an underestimated one.
funny that you mentioned ace combat, because the boss battle where this plays actually reminds me of alicorn from AC7
That's a great song. No doubt about it. When im playing table top i will play this track when a boss shows up
"This might be the best NieR song I've ever heard!"
There is some _stiff_ competition for that title, sir. The entire soundtrack is just gorgeous.
Check out the video I have scheduled for this Saturday involving NieR
Does he know?
I like Dark Colossus destroys all from Nier 2010 more, you should react to it too.
It's so hard to find an upload of this track that has the opening part. Sucks you didn't find one with that.
6:55 Yep, you might loose your shit
Okay not related, but if you like church organ, please check out Dancing Mad solo on a church organ by grissini project

Please listen to A beautiful song from Nier automata. It's incredible.
Limbad 😮
I prefer the original, even if it's more repetitive, but that's clearly one of the best song of the game
Honestly i prefer the original
