Hi Pavel Congratulations on superb videos - I am also a Mark K fan and love his style - real class. And you do that justice with your take not only on the song but the song writing. I can play Silver Eagle and 5.15 but intend upgrading to your version. Trouble is I am still early days so would really like more help from charts and picking patterns written out but realize thats not what you are setting out to do. I'll be spending a lot of time on your videos- thanks a million Willie - Cape Town, South Africa
Hello and thanks, I am learning the song with the bass guitar and listening to your words as I play... this is a bit confusing as you call chords by their shape if in the basic first fret not up the neck with a capo; I want to follow what you say but you call it G when it is really a Bb, and Em when it is a Gm, but it has helped me to learn some odd notes and bits in it... Thanks, Mark.....................
Lyrics: SILVER EAGLE It was so late and she’d be sleeping He came through her hometown With the moonlight on the crossroads And the green light shining down And the bell at the railroad crossing And the horn from far away And his Silver Eagle passing Half a mile from where she lay At his feet a sea of faces Make devotions with their love Clap their hands and plead their cases Call for blessings from above Like the rolling waves forever massing To crash and foam and creep away And the Silver Eagle passing Half a mile from where she lay Road signs flow into the headlights Whisper names and fall behind He finds some honor in the darkness Hopes for grace and peace of mind And he thinks of how they’d lay together He’d run his fingers through her hair And he wonders if she’ll ever Come to know that he was there
Man, I really can´t appreciate enough all the work you put in these videos, thank you so much :) Silver Eagle is definitely one of my favourites of Tracker, have you ever considered doing a tutorial for Skydiver? Greetings from Germany
Yeah I figured intro for Skydiver i based on G7 G6 G with characteristic Knopfler fingerpicking 3 bass strings, and goes to C, C/B Am...and so on and on many chords...
Yeah I know the basic chord structure but thanks for the input (though there are some tricky ones where I'm not 100% sure), but what I'm really interested in is the picking pattern of the song :)
Julian Härtl Mark kinda shows it in the documentary "Tracker", but the intro is pick the G on 6th E , than 5th and 4th down stroke mute/rake and upstroke , you know typical Mark
Thanks so much for all your videos Pavel. One request, could you do "My heart has never changed" possibly in standard tuning ir a capo? Thanks again Pavel
Thank you for this video. I'm trying to learn to finger pick and this has helped my tremendously. It also helps that I love to listen Mark. I do have a question, in the live video of Mark playing this on RUclips he has put the capo in the 4th fret. Has he tuned his guitar down one half step and if so why?
Awesome as always Pavel. Just one question :) I noticed you sometimes change the picking pattern (from picking strings E, G, D, B, D to E, D, B, D). Is that change random or is there some kind of pattern behind the change? I can't figure it out.. Thanks a lot :)
From what I understand the second variation is just simplified version of the first pattern. In fact, E, D, B, D is even more precise pattern and E, G, D, B, D is the variation. E, D, B, D is the skeleton you add some notes on top of.
If you're talking about a fan-made video for the song, Mark is playing another song in this video, "Get Lucky", which is indeed a 4-fret-capo song. As far as I'm concerned, he never played "Silver Eagle" live.
He's playing another song, hence different capo position. Because Silver Eagle wasn't performed live, fans created a video using existing footage of MK playing, and you can't decide the capo position from this video, only trust your ears.
Well played. Great lesson,Great teacher Thank you
Thank you!
Mark Knopfler is a great songwriter.

Very well done.................You have great musical taste.
Well done as always, nice quiet song too. The best of the album for me is long cool girl, I would like to ear that too :).
I'm sure I'll do that one, too ;D
The song is too low for me to sing, so please bear with me - I do it "as is" on the fly.
Great, Pavel❤
Thank you for the lesson.

Lyrics: SILVER EAGLE
It was so late and she’d be sleeping
He came through her hometown
With the moonlight on the crossroads
And the green light shining down
And the bell at the railroad crossing
And the horn from far away
And his Silver Eagle passing
Half a mile from where she lay
At his feet a sea of faces
Make devotions with their love
Clap their hands and plead their cases
Call for blessings from above
Like the rolling waves forever massing
To crash and foam and creep away
And the Silver Eagle passing
Half a mile from where she lay
Road signs flow into the headlights
Whisper names and fall behind
He finds some honor in the darkness
Hopes for grace and peace of mind
And he thinks of how they’d lay together
He’d run his fingers through her hair
And he wonders if she’ll ever
Come to know that he was there
Very good in deed... Thank you.
Paul Simon's voice would be beautiful on this song !

Hi Julian! Thank you for suggestion, I love Skydiver. A lot of chords there. Will do!

Would this count as Travis picking? I’m looking for a simple one to start with!! Love this song by the way,
Thanks so much for all your videos Pavel.
One request, could you do "My heart has never changed" possibly in standard tuning ir a capo?
Thanks again Pavel
Thank you! I'll do this song in original tuning and of course will provide a simpler version in standard tuning also.
@@PavelFomenkov thanks so much Pavel

Pavel: Thanks so much for the lessons. Can you tell me the beat pattern? I understand the picking pattern. Is it 1-and-2-3-4? Thanks!
I’m feeling it as a 1 a 2 3 4 but it doesn’t matter if your rythm feels right when you play with the track.

Could you write the Letterman please.
Please Play .«My Heart Has Never Changed»
Wow! What a suggestion. I'm sure I'll do that one! Thanks.
..difficult to sing like Mark.. ;-)

What strings are those?
Jeremy Leaman I tried Martin Retro 12-54 this time. Great strings I have to say!
