Crazy how consistent King Krule has been throughout his career. Not one dud in his discography thus far imo. This new album is also brilliant, it’s amazing how you can hear his sound be translated into something a bit more optimistic while still sounding as good as ever. Not all artists who’ve attempted a more positive album after a slew of sad music have been successful, so it’s satisfying to see Archy pull it off so wonderfully.
@@admirallove6180 Yeah he's incredibly creative with the chord progressions, he uses the same chords a LOT throughout his discography but he always finds a way to make it sound different, one of my favourites (i dont know the name or whatever) is that one descending minor 9s progression you hear in a couple of his songs. the second part of Half Man Half Shark, Energy Fleets (it's ascending in this song tho) and its even in Tortoise of Indepedency which was soooo fucking nice
The OOZ "straight up unpalatable", "repetitive", and "skeletal"? It's literally got the most immersive soundscape I've ever heard on wax. It may not be incredibly dynamic but it's definitely dynamic enough to the point where it remains congruent as a whole whilst still having its up's and down's sonically.
Much higher score than I was thinking you'd give it but stoked you enjoyed it! Though it still astounds me how consistently you don't enjoy my favorite tracks from multiple records, "From the Swamp" and "Seagirl" are some of my favorite Archy tracks to date!!
Yeah judging by his description, I was pretty surprised to see a strong 8. I'm excited for this album, and I agree overall with what Fantano says here. Not a perfect record by any means, but definitely a stand out album in the recent past for me
Got to meet Archy after seeing him in Vancouver during his tour for the Ooz. My friend and I were super drunk and my buddy offered him a cigarette, which he happily accepted. My friend used to smoke Viceroys, which I'm positive was only because of Mac DeMarco but he always claimed this was just coincidence and that he just loved them. Upon handing King Krule the cigarette, Archy responded with "Oh Viceroys? These are what Mac DeMarco smokes, right?" Cool guy. Most artists wouldn't accept a cigarette off a random fan. The same friend and I met both members of MGMT after one of their shows and he also offered one of them (Ben) a cigarette, to which he declined and said "No thanks, I've got my own." What an asshole. (Joking).
My fav King Krule album so far. I have been listening to him for quite a while now, when Man Alive! came out, I loved it to bits. I was kind of afraid he couldn’t top it, and I’m so glad I was so wrong. I’m gonna hold this album so close to my heart forever now.
I love Archy man. He gets tighter and more locked in with every release (ftr, I love The OOZ, but it's been a complete upward trajectory his whole career from his debut onward imo)
I love each KK album more than the last, mainly because I love how Archies music changes as he ages, feels like an emotional journey. the saxophone and spaced out guitar cords are legendary on this new album
Just saw him last night, i hope he releases live versions of these songs. You have no idea how much better it sounded live. It was definitely a fulfilling moment i wish i would’ve bought both New York dates
Been having a tough time with my music. Seems like I can't seem to find something to relax me or take my mind off things. Finally this came along and it really helped quiet my mind. Seems like my mind was always in the future and listening to this album really helped bring it back to the present.
I did enjoy this record, but I think Man Alive! is still my favorite out of the recent era of King Krule. Don't get me wrong, Space Heavy is solid and there are several tracks that I will return too, but I don't find myself throwing the whole thing on repeat over and over like I did with Man Alive! and Ooz.
i bounced off krule 2 years ago but this album stuck onto my brain like glue for the last few days since i listened to it. "when vanishing" is beautiful and i felt very at home in the place this record painted for me
can’t wait to see him live this July, I hope to hear a lotta these new tracks but I’m also excited for some classics like hearing Baby Blue or Dum Surfer live would be nutssss
it’s truly a good day when Anthony likes a new King Krule album. Personally loved it but thought he wouldn’t be so kind after 2 mehs in the weekly track reviews, pleasantly surprised 👏
anthony you gave it a good score because archy confessed that he nailed your girlfriend on the song pink shell, therefore mending your relationship into a more honest and accepting one.
Thank you for reviewing 6 feet all those years ago, after seeing him on letterman one night, I started watching your reviews I think starting with that album. I'm now going to see King Krule in Nashville for the first time, and while I disagree with some of your takes, you've introduced me into alot of amazing tunes and appreciate the dialogue you create
Yeah I feel like I need to give this a few more listens, 6 feet and ooz are my favourites of his for sure, I thought this one was good but none of the tracks blew me away but maybe I'm overlooking something
@@jens2049 Don't get me wrong music as low and sombre as this record can still have a great impact on me (blow me away was a poorer choice of words in this context) but initially I didn't think much of most of the tracks.... however, I listened to it again today and I enjoyed it a lot more this time round
“Where I think archy is comparing himself to a tortoise of some sort” bruh. Walking slow is in the lyrics-what about how it continues into space cadet?

Your review of The Ooz is my MBDTF moment.

so true
So you hate The Ooz ..... but now all of a sudden Space Heavy sounds appealing to you?? 😂😂
Fking hipster 🎉🎉🎉🎉
He was literally high on Horse when he didn’t like The Ooz
A strong 8 is basically a light 9 and a light 9 is basically a decent 9 to strong 9 which is a 10 so King Krule did it again!

The OOZ was unbelievably boring, but maybe that’s because the debut was better.
