    C6 wheel bearing was a twat to do, too. Over 20t to get it shifted, and heat.

      I didn't apply heat, maybe I should have in retrospect. Weird though, that bearing has only been in the knuckle for just over a year I think, the original bearing had done 120k (or more) miles and pressed out very easily indeed, the gauge barely flickered.. That said, this bearing had got mighty hot so it probably wasn't the shape it was intended to be...
      Either way, modern French cars are very much testing my nerves!

    Nice see the both BX's back on the road. Your Dad's is very good on the road. The 16 valve I was expecting a tractor but no it seem very good too.
    The C5 the bearings is not the cars fault really. I've had similar experence with other cars 12 months at best. The solution is better bearings maybe replace the actual race in the hub. Any way it great to see your still fighting the good fight.

      Dad's needs a few bits, and a lot of bodywork, but yeah, it's a lovely old thing to drive.
      The 16v is a rattly shed to be honest, it needs a lot doing still. But the exhaust should soon be replaced by a full front to back stainless unit, properly made and tuned, and I'm told the other identical exhaust that Vanny has had made sounds exactly right so the awful farting sound should be a thing of the past directly.
      As for the c5, no, to be fair, that bearing has lasted over a year, which is remarkable for that car, but it wasn't cheap, and it's rubbish. I shouldn't have kept using it when it got loud frankly, but I had little choice at the time.
      I've got another knuckle coming, along with a drivetec bearing and Fripp joint (and whilst drivetec isn't oem, the nsf bearing seems to be OK so far so it can only be better than oem stuff at 3 times the price that last less than 20k miles. I hope..

    Idle speed on your 16v sounds just like my dad's did! Sounds spot on to me!❤

      It's OK, but not quite how it was, it's how long it takes to settle to a steady idle that I don't like much.. But it's certainly improved overall fir having a set of injectors and a pressure reg. Took minutes, nothing broke, and it's better. If only every job was that easy!

    Regarding the creaks, look into buying anti.creak tapes. There are generally two types: one is a thin felt fabric, the other is a thicker foam type. Or just use butyl chord.

    • @adventuresinrust1644
      @adventuresinrust1644  6 месяцев назад

      I did actually buy a few rolls of anti creak tape, alas they're still sat in a box, although it clearly works well, the box doesn't creak at all!
      It's definitely on the to do list though creaks really annoy me!

      @@adventuresinrust1644 I've been hunting down creaks in my Bx for a while now, but I simply cannot figure out where some of them are coming from. A really annoying one is coming from around the front left corner of the headliner, specifically the plastic edge trim.

    • @adventuresinrust1644
      @adventuresinrust1644  6 месяцев назад

      They can be a sod to locate can't they. I had one in dad's car I was convinced was on the headlining, turns out that was a spanner I'd left in the door pocket..
      It's worth chipping away at them though, even if I generally just turn the stereo up in the 16v, until I get chance to screw it together properly at least

      It seems the a38 is the place to be spotted these days, I'll have to use that road more often!

    This is a really interesting topic as my XM does exactly the same thing.
    Noise when shifting 2-3. Even though mine is 4hp18 my understanding is that they are similar boxes in many ways. Brake band adjustment didn't help in my case. I still don't know what is causing the noise.

    • @adventuresinrust1644
      @adventuresinrust1644  6 месяцев назад +1

      The 4hp18 is a slightly beefier box, but method of operation is very similar indeed.
      Does the chirp alter in sound depending on how much load is on the box at the time?
      I've not looked into it yet to be fair, but I think it might be the piston making the noise, and sticking slightly, I've noticed with a very light throttle it's OK, and full throttle is OK too, but anything inbetween it chirps, but the chirp does slightly alter in sound, and you can feel a slight slip before full engagement, barely perceptible but it's there, which makes me think it's piston related..
      I'll change the fluid and do the band anyway, then it'll be checking the line pressure and see what we get

    • @dailyingxm
      @dailyingxm 6 месяцев назад

      @@adventuresinrust1644 That's exactly what it does. Mine gets louder the faster I accelerate and doesn't go away at full throttle. I can't feel it slipping when it does this, but I usually just take my foot off the accelerator to make it easier for the box. A lot of people say it needs an oil change and I've found a Citroen bulletin that says the same, but mine hasn't cured with oil changes and I've done quite a few. Mine also had a crack in the flex plate, but I don't think that was the problem, but my engine and box are off the car ATM so can't say for sure. I think the problem is with the valve body, maybe the old crappy ATF is making it behave strangely.

    • @adventuresinrust1644
      @adventuresinrust1644  6 месяцев назад

      @dailyingxm a cracked flexi plate will make a noise, but not a chirp like I'm getting.
      Unusual for a valve block to fail on these, although it's possibly restricted if the oil had been neglected for years, which I see quite a lot.
      Be interesting to see what is found with yours.
      I've taken to doing the same at the moment, backing the throttle off at upshift.
      The slip on dad's is barely noticeable. If I wasn't being hyper aware because of the noise I'd not have noticed at all but it's definitely there

      @@adventuresinrust1644 I'm going to make a video about it when I get the valve block cleaned and the car back together. I'm very interested to see what you can find out about your dad's box as well.
