I was a Junior at UK when he came in, man he saved our hide....it was CERTAIN we would have a losing record (thanks to Rex's Coach!!),and he went 14-14 the first year...scared a top 10 IU team to death...
This is great. Rex Chapman was my childhood hero. But as far as UK and Pitino go, I was sitting in 8th grade math March 96. Secretary popped her head in the room and said one of your friends is going to Minneapolis to watch Kentucky and they’ve invited you. We drove up and watched UK obliterate Utah and Keith Van Horn. Watched Wake Forest beat Louisville. On Saturday me and my friend got to go down to court side and sit 5 rows back and watch the 96 squad just kill Wake Forest / Tim Duncan. I think it’s the best UK team ever. 2012 was close, but it’s hard to go against the 96 team.
Oh Coach!!I think of where the Cards would be if we had the consistency of having you as coach all these years. You never stayed anywhere as on gas you were at Louisville, and you brought us back to greatness. AND A 3rd NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP! I love you, and I thank you for all you did for the Cardinals. I’m not sure you have any idea how strong support for you is in Card Nation,
I remember when I read the article how you talked about your greatness at Kentucky but in the end you knew that Louisville was the place you were meant to be! And that’s so true! And we miss you at Louisville . It’s never been the same since you left. And you were fired unjustly… No one ever followed the money though to see where Andre McGhee got it? IT was all set up. Starting with the governor who is a big blue fan follow the money… I’m sure you’ll find blue all over it.
I forgave Rick for going to UL long ago...never really held it against him...but I just have such a hard time accepting how he simply can't ever take responsibility. It's always somebody else's fault, whether it's failure in Boston or the UL debacle. In that regard, he's WAY more Bobby Knight than Coach K as a leader...and like Knight, nobody can deny his success as a basketball coach and mind, but severely flawed character makes the person off the court hard to feel good about.
I still have beefs with Pitino, not for taking the UL job so much, but for pulling some of the stunts when Cal got to UK like leaking Bledsoe's transscripts to media and trying to ruin UK/Cal instead of working harder to beat them. UK didnt mean enough to him to not pull that stuff, still hurts. Pull that crap on Duke....not a school that gave you such a platform and memories! But cant deny he was the best UK coach of my lifetime Those 8 season were magical. They won, the style of play was incredible. Couldve been a dynasty if he wouldve stayed in Lexington his whole career. Cal's been great and has won at a historical level but watching 1980's style basketball and winning with raw talent, defense, and hustle isnt as fun as watching UK press 94 feet, shoot threes, average 90ppg, etc. Different eras and different approaches; both work but lucky to be a fan of a school that can attract such great coaches! Great interview Rex and Josh

Rex is doing a great job ! Humble, what an ambassador for UK and the state of Kentucky.
Yes cal is a recruiter but we have slipped from glory...
The one and only Slick Rick! Louisville needs to rehire him. Legendary coach!!
Love Rick.. we would take him back if he would have us.. Rex still pissed you bounced but will get over it one day…
Love coach Cal hope he stays till he retires! He is the man we need that said Pitino is best coach at UK of my lifetime!
Rex is phenomenal on this. Love the show. Keep posting. Rex in effect!
