    Seems like the simplest solution is to say they can go clutchless, that eliminates the need to Police it.

    As a car guy and a fan, I could care less if they use a clutch. First one to the line wins clutch or not. Keep the rules black and white so there’s no arguments. If it’s a big problem, mandate people use transmissions that require a clutch, no bogboxes then.. the less convoluted the rules are the less need for interpretation.

    I run a Jerico DR-4 and it's not a clutchless tranny, but can be easily shifted without the clutch. Been running the set up for 20 years as a F/S Stock Eliminator and now in B Gas Nostalgia racing. Though not a member of SEG, I think it's unfair to have a rule that cannot be fully enforced to a black and white decision. I don't use use the clutch, but I know a lot of competitors that due....that's their choice. I would find it hard to believe that fans would be discouraged to see a race because some guys didn't use a clutch! My car hits hard between shifts except in 4th due a little bit of slippage, but that's the way I have it set up and doubt seriously if fans can tell the difference!

    I'm not sure why this is even an issue? Drag racing is drag racing, if you have a little edge over someone else that's the whole point it's not like it's cheating.
    When I street race my 85 Mustang GT 392 small block Ford stroker, i keep the the accelerator pasted to the floor pan and I tap the clutch to shift.
    I win a lot of races and money with this method and everyone knows i shift like that and not once has the cheating card been pulled🤷

    I think the slower cars that need to j erk the wheels up need the clutch rule. The fast cars do not need a clutch rule like that they wheels like crazy anyway! Keep the expense down and keep it safe with no electronics

    Interesting question on the clutch stuff. Seems very difficult to police for sure and even more so if doing the policing with products available in 1967. I was not around in the hay day of gasser racing but did they have the clocks on back then? I have been to several SEGA races and I'm always disappointed that the clocks are not on. A few years ago they had a couple World Series of ProMod races at Bandimere in Colorado and they didn't have the clock on. There were a lot of disappointed fans because they couldn't see the times and mph. I make more of an effort to attend more SEGA races if I could see the reaction times and ET/MPH. Just leaves me with an empty feeling to now know the times,

    Can you guy's use shifters like hurst ramrods or Mr gasket inline shifter or is it strictly h pattern shifters and what transmissions are most of the racers using that hold up to all that abuse

    The bummer is a data recorder like a RacePak would be able to pick up clutch engagement data, but then how do you monitor the limits of use of the racepak so they don’t use driveshaft sensors and stuff

    I would like to see how fast factory double hump headed 331 sbc with factory modified transmission would run it seems like these guys are running small lock prostick engines and clutchless Jericho or liberty trans I don't think they had these type engines in 1967 heck the big lock just came out a few years before but I am amazed how fast these cars are I heard there is a car running 5.20 in the eighth mile that is awaome

    Why couldn’t you just put a switch at the bottom of the pedal travel that turns a light on when it’s depressed. And have the light facing backwards on the car

    • @sourkrautracing8108
      @sourkrautracing8108 2 года назад +1

      It's a good idea. but Chris mentioned that. a sneaky driver might move the switch so it trigger the light but he's not really pushing the clutch in. move the switch back after the run. Or they could deactivate the pedal switch and have another cheat switch hidden.

    I think if the transmissions they use in SEGA can be shifted without the clutch … they should be outlawed and go to a transmission that needs a clutch pedal to be shifted. I don’t think you can monitor clutch operation as far as sidestepping or kissing the clutch to shift, or full depression of the pedal. As long as it’s not a clutchless shifted trans, you’re good to go no matter how you shift. That’s how it was back in the day. The guy who could work the clutch and bang the gears the best usually won if he made good power. Put in a rule for which transmissions are acceptable and let tech do their job to make sure it’s legal. Tear downs if necessary. Keep electronics and sensors out of the cars.

    SEGA wants to build these cars “wrong” by design. 1967 and prior type of wrong. Because that’s what they want. It’s their rules and their organization. And they came up with this based on racing history and what many fans want. Some fans are tired of bracket racing, rev limiters and electronic controls that make the cars look like private jet cockpits. They wanted to do it old school. Authentic old school…not just a body shape. As much as possible. And they do a good job and the racing is awesome. If you’ve never been to a SEGA event you just don’t understand. The whole scene is 1967 like. Not just the cars. The times aren’t displayed because that’s a level of authentic they want. For me it doesn’t matter. It’s like watching a street grudge match with each pass and who won is all that counts. NHRA bracket racing fans find it hard to watch without times and speed displayed. And it’s understandable. But it’s the venue that SEGA wanted to create. The 4 speeds of the day needed a clutch. And that’s what SEGA wants. It’s not a stupid rule. It’s just a rule and if a person doesn’t like the rule don’t build a car to run with them. Or don’t even pay attention to their club. There are tons of clubs doing it different by building pro street cars with 4 link, automatics, modern graphics, racing bucket seats, weld wheels, braided AN fitting hoses and billet valve covers…made to look like gassers. SEGA is not paying tribute to 1967….they are re-enacting 1967.
