Front engine has major advantages for building a kit car and sourcing a drivetrain, specifically the difficulty and expense of the transmission required for mid-engine. Some companies like SuperLite now sell transmissions specifically for their car, but they are very expensive (Graziano for SLC is north of $14k by the time you get the transmission and the other parts needed). Front engine you could buy 400hp V8, clutch, and new Tremec for about that much. Aim for about $40,000 - $50,000 and they would have sold a ton. Then have other models with different options for more. Then they could have also offered them without a drivetrain for those with the means and time to do it themselves. But we all know that would have been a sliver of total sales. Moronic management.

There was one of these that used to run in the time trials at NASA local events. I guess it was fun, once you got past the whole overheating, breaking all the time, and slower than a stock C6 Corvette aspects.
This car does 0-60 in 3 sec. with 505hp. 11.0 sec. 1/4 mile.
Whomever was running that car they didn't have it set up right.
There is a first gen in California that has been racing for 15 plus years and has won MULTIPLE endurance race championships.
@@carbonfiber8071 No doubt you can post links to results and videos. Even if it does exist, I guarantee-freaking-tee you the build and development cost way more than $25k. Like 6 figures. And it they’re actually competitive in the faster endurance classes, the first of those 6 figures is gonna be greater than 1.
@@americanAlienBoy You stuck your foot in your mouth that time. Look up Team PDG. Or you can go directly to FFR's website. Pretty well-known group. And they did it on almost NO budget. You don't know what the hell you're talking about.
3:02 because I like autox. I'd probably go the other way and try to get that 500 hp out of the smallest engine possible.
6:08 Grandma's rusty old Fiero? They have composite panels. You know that right? Lol
I'd like to see them produce a 65/66 Mustang or 67/68/69 or 70/71/72/73 RS Camaro kit over these so-called super cars.
Lets see the corvette do MORE doughnuts!! i don't think i got that down yet....lol
get a hci LS7 MAKING 650WHP in a light car like this, man that thing would fly.
If you are smart, and do all the work yourself including bodywork/paint, you can build this car for 50k to 60k.
That's still a lot though. The K1 attack with a turbo k20 finished it'll be around 30k
If you are smart you will just buy a c5 and boost it .... And you have a factory car that's easy to work on Comfortable and can find parts for it...Just saying ..
@@erikcapozzi3425 They are apples and oranges. You obviously don't understand the difference between a mid-engine tube-frame race car and a front-engine production car that weighs 800 lbs. more. The driving dynamics are night and day. Plus my car is worth over 100k at the moment, can't say the same about a C5.
@@erikcapozzi3425 Some people like it easy, and some build incredible and unique cars.
@@rokk144 Pretty cheap for what it is. Guess you have to pay to play.
Climbing through any office windows lately Burkey?
Please more videos on F9R
I have always understood Kit Car to be something that uses a donor chassis and drivetrain from a VW Bug or Fiero or Boxster, for example.
Not necessarily. It's just easier to keep a build on an existing title road legal.
Now that's nice
Airbags or temp glass
That is a great car for the price!!!
Only the factory R160 ST from burnout revenge comes to mind
It doesn't look too bad
I would love an F9R with a shorter front and rear mounted engine.
Superlite SLC is a better choice for performance and looks IMO.
Factory five is the way to go ,if you want to roll high with low cash spent
Must I use an American car. What if I used a v8 Lexus engine
After watching this and being a "rebel" I want one with an AT now. And to make it a GT...
Sorry Quick, that post was meant for Superlative CG
"850+ horsepower. Thats too much"
Said no one ever
It's a real nice car it's a shame it's leaving I wouldn't mind getting one myself
F9 is canceled, FF5 already stated that they have other projects that they want to spend more time on.
Makes may mouth water ....
but can i put a coyote motor in it?
"Nobody needs that much power in a car"
We are not the same
$24,990 X 2 or 3.
I thought FFR has stopped taking orders as the GTM is now discontinued?
They aren't going to discontinue the GTM until they have an outright replacement for the model. Dave's said multiple times that he isn't even sure the F9R as it currently is will be that model, or if one of the others they have partially developed might be.
This man missed a shift and still ran a 10.70 quarter-mile. Fuck
Also, the GTM and F9R look like they're from Burnout
I took a tour last week.
Any car you have to assemble yourself, should be classified as a kit car 🚗
;-D I wouldn't go old drive train thow... I'd get New Engine and Trans too. Build it over Winter for Spring...
Talked to the factory five guys at sema when lookin at the GTM race car that they race and they are very cool guys. Love the car but the roofline was at my waist so as much as I love it idk how comfortable it would be for me 😂
I looked at one too. I sat in it and couldn't see out of it worth a $%#$. It was like sitting in a tank. Great car, just not for the drivers out there.
The fastest car you will never build seems more appropriate
Depends on who you are.
I like the second gen body style but man the furst gen was so gt40ish
LSX 454 twin turbo 🙊 yep sounds fun
0:55 Sir that's a single cheeseburger not a double quarter pounder. I want my money back.
nooooo someone noticed 😭
@@QuickshiftCars It was worse you used "homemade" car pics instead of actual older kit cars.
i Dunno his brother builds some sweet kits too !! lol
The first mid engine Corvette.
Looks good the cars design and very good looks are great for a kit car at that cost very impressed with the styling
Why wouypu pick it over a Corvette though?
2500lb finished weight. 1.05 g's on street tires.
Go fast on a budget vw beetle
In 1972 , 1966 bug clocked at 105 mph on I-10 at Sonora by DPS. He was not very pleased with my performance.
How about a cyotee
INSURANCE: Yes $$, unless your DIY car is driven more than 7000 miles per year (USA) which is not insurable
So a commuter car/daily driver, is effectively ILLEGAL
They had some great ideas but 600 hours in assembly? They should have started to build them and gradually the operation would have gotten streamlined. Start with a base small block V8 mid engine, paddle shifters, rigid and light weight with a targa top keeping rigidity with the full roll cage shown in this video. Aim for about $40,000 - $50,000 and they would have sold a ton. Then have other models with different options for more. Then they could have also offered them without a drivetrain for those with the means and time to do it themselves. But we all know that would have been a sliver of total sales. Moronic management.
The upcoming F9R is said to be replacing the GTM once launched.
Considering the entire body is going to be made of carbon fiber, unless you've got a TON of money they won't ever be on the same level let alone a direct replacement
@@wingchangwow Agreed and with todays market building one of those isn’t even worth it unless as you said you have a ton of money PLUS ANOTHER TON ON TOP OF THAT!!! They are completely destroying the point of built in house super cars. If your spending out 100k just to build it might as well just get a super car.
@@Darth_Arashi People are spending that much on kit cars anyway so your logic doesn't make much sense. Affordability isn't the only reason people build kit cars. People build them, because they enjoy working on cars, and want something unique. Neither of those immediately translates to affordable as you might define it. On top of the fact that arguing affordability doesn't make sense, as it's not a universal definition. 100k for a car that can compete with something 3 or 4 times that in price is affordable by comparison.
