In case no one caught it, the code King Cold puts into the panel 4386 is GEVO which is the human name of Android 16, who is confirmed to be Dr Gero's son, which is why the Red Ribbon Army logo appears. Hints that Gero's in the other HFIL team with Cooler?

But why would he be in HFIL? He never killed anyone innocent, and even attempted to sacrifice himself to kill Cell. He should be in heaven.
Edit: apparently that was android 16, who I now recall was fully robotic. Gevo may very well have been a rotten scumbag rotting in Hell for supporting the RR army prior to being killed by Goku in that abridged video since that's the canon we're going with.
And for everyone kindly blowing up my notifications saying "Uh, akcthually, it's GERO that's in hfil", the original comment wasn't entirely clear on that.

I was gonna say that it can't be adorable considering all the evil that Cell has done (Freeza may have blown people to kingdom come, but at least he never DRANK anyone, that we know of), but after hearing that line again, yes it was adorable.

5:18 Note that Freeza attempts to “brute force” the keypad by going in numerical order, while Cell notes the letters above the buttons and makes a few educated guesses. As high class and educated as Freeza behaves, his approach to problem solving is basically “force the thing to do what I want,” in keeping with his role as an unchallenged warlord. Cell, on the other hand, began his life far weaker than the biggest players, and thus had to think and strategize to get what he wanted.
Never mind that his self-centered first instinct was to press the buttons corresponding to his birthday, and then his name, whereas Cell thought about relevant 4-letter words, like “HFIL” and “GURU”. Given a little bit more time and desperation, he probably would have tried “COLD”, “OGRE”, “NMEK”, who knows what else.
Frieza acts exactly like how high class people act. He's not used to doing anything like that - he pays other people to do that for him. Education and Manners are wasted when you think you're better than everyone else by default.
Him acting like a frustrated violent brat when things don't go his way is unbelievably close to the mark.

I love the implicit message that having King Cold around kept Freeza from maturing whereas Cell is much more independent and self-assured because all he had was himself.

The only reason I can think of as to why Cooler turned out more mature is because King Cold played favourites with his children, spoiling his youngest but was harsh on the eldest

King Cold himself even said that he could have done a better job. He knows he spoiled Frieza rotten (Cooler did bring this up when they were having that Christmas/Frieza Day argument) and knows that because of this, Frieza might not ever mature enough to escape HFIL.
An interesting thing to note here about these two villains: Cell was never really given a choice on the kind of person he could be. Frieza had PLENTY of time and opportunities to be a better person.

Cell could of changed. Look at 16. Despite being a Robot programmed to kill Goku he was still able to make his own choices
In the TFS version Cell had plenty of choice. And he wanted to be a Saiyan, when you really broke it down. Bit more tact, but the part of himself he most embraced when he became Perfect was his Saiyan side. He wanted a fight. No more, no less. He enjoyed a bit of mental breakdown manufacturing that's a bit more of his Frieza side, but who he is, and who he wanted to be, was simply Saiyan. In HFIL, he wants out, and if I had to guess as to where he'd prefer to go once he's out, I'd say his first pick would be "where would I go to find Goku? Want a rematch now that we're both dead and fighting forever is possible now. I know he'd be up for it, and if I have a literal eternity I can think of worse ways to spend it."
The code King Cold puts into the panel 4386 is GEVO which is the human name of Android 16, super interesting call forward. Also Devil Artemis's animation work is getting better every episode.

I'm predicting Cell's gonna have his own daddy issues with Dr. Gero making an appearance, Devil Artemis already has him modeled and animated from the DAU.

A nice callback that nobody seems to have noticed is Frieza saying "what is that? What even IS that?"
That line about Cell having no father... the fact that we know now that there are other neighboorhoods... the Red Ribon logo... yeah. We are getting Gero soon.
Gotta say I really hope so, I liked what little extra they did with gero's character from him acting like a flustered intellectual when paniced, to actually having some semblance of empathy with his rebuilt son (and the message from his son creating more backstory for his motives). I honestly kinda hope they'll be some kind of positive bond between him and cell....but I sorta doubt he'd see cell as much more than a tool.
One thing I was wondering why Gero was absent was that, since he's a brain in an android body, would he keep his android body or would he go to the Afterlife with his original body? If the latter, he'd be too weak to have issue with the Soul Scrubber, since he'd just be an old powerless man.

The “I’m going to sleep” is my favorite part because it’s when Cell realizes there’s no point in talking with Freiza due to how difficult he is. It’s what everyone should do with the toxic people in their life.
Really impressive when the 6 year old has more maturity than however old Frieza is.
Not to mention it works as being the most aggravating response he could possibly have given.
It was totally a calculated move to piss frieza off, by literally ignoring what the mighty galactic emperor is saying. He's got frieza's cells in him and is comprised of 10.78% of goku's DNA he knows exactly how to infuriate frieza.

I absolutely love whenever Cell and Frieza have a conversation-
they’re both so witty I could timestamp the beginning of literally _any_ of their interactions in this episode and it would be absolute gold.
Having Cell acknowledge how much of a threat a Super Duper Saiyan presents is both funny and interesting at the same time.
Cell fully accepts the fact that he got taken down, and knows how much it took..

I'm excited for the tournament! Oh my life would be complete if they wrapped up DBZ abridged, movies and all. Clearly their top-notch writing is there, they're great at doing original music now, no fear of copyright. If they were burned out, more than enough time passed now that they got some breathing room. keep in mind this is the dbza universe. They might say movie 9 never happens and Bojack just dies in the explosion when Cell blew up King Kai's planet....which would actually make more sense
I love how organic the dialogue between Frieza and Cell, especially when they talk about their positions/future in HIFL.

There's someone you're not thinking about. "This is so non-canon it hurts" being a line in Episode of Bardock Abridged implies it might not be canon to the Abridged Universe, and even if it is, he would have died many many thousands of years ago. Bardock vs Freeza, Round 2. Raditz and Bardock meeting back up. Bardock being proud of his grandson when he finds out how Cell died. Swap Turles for Bardock and you got some wild stuff at play.
Since Bojack is here that means the events of the movie have already pasted. I always thought that Zangya was Zarbon's secret girlfriend. Curious to see if I was right if she makes an appearance.
Cell genuinely wanting to reform in HFIL feels believable because unlike Freeza who at least has an empire waiting for him in the mortal world, Cell has no one there. All the meaningful connections he's built were in the afterlife
It’d be kinda cool if DBSuper randomly showed Cell in Hell doing something oddly similar to this. Just him actually living after death. 😁

The amount of love I have in my heart for Cell and Freeza's interactions is enormous. The chemistry is so so good.
I like how despite typically being the instigator, Freiza does almost nothing but unilaterally lose these verbal spats with Cell.
Even when Cell tells Freiza he won, Freiza lost aggressively and he knows it.
Basically in these sorts of spats, you lose by letting the other person get under your skin… which with the respective characterization TFS has given them, it makes sense that Freiza would be at disadvantage, with how much less external affirmation Cell needs to maintain his self confidence.
Cell only needs to live up to his own expectations to love himself, Freiza needs other people to respect him (or die, but that’s not an option here) to feel like he matters, so outside the Ginyus or someone else getting involved, verbally sparring with Cell is a losing battle for Freiza every time.
Dunno how much of it got consciously discussed by TFS, but it’s actually really strong work, in terms of character writing

The only way Frieza would do even a smidge of mental damage to Cell, is if he somehow got Tien down in HFIL. And even then that would backfire horribly.
@@bulbasaur15 I mean to remind, Freiza’s wit could be pretty sharp when he was on the ball (Vs Dendei’s family, Vs Nail, etc), it’s just he loses composure (and with it coherence) as he gets angry, and he gets *way* too angry when he can’t get his way (Goku continuing to live on and annoy him, basically everything happening in HFIL)

I love how Cell was so unadjusted to this place for a while and now he's at the point he's more than made himself home in this place.
TFS' Cell just feels way more fleshed out than the regular Cell. Regular Cell was an arrogant anime villain who wanted a good fight; this Cell has that, but he's also been shown to have a sense of humor and even enjoys social interactions (to a point). It makes him feel a lot more like the amalgamation of the various characters that he actually is rather than just mostly a cross between Saiyan Saga Vegeta and Freeza. He seems very much like someone who can manage to adjust to a quiet lifestyle once he gets humbled enough to get over his ego, especially if it's just a means to an end.

@@aimanazminovich3602 I'm not too familiar with Cell in those games. I did play Xenoverse 2 and I think I've played 1, but I don't remember anything special about him there. I was mostly comparing anime Cell to DBZA Cell.
@@Nyzer_ Well, to give you some context then, in one of the Xenoverse games (I forget which), if you got S rank on a mission with Cell as your current mentor, he exclaims "I would totally hug you if that was something I did!"

I was sad when you guys discontinued the Abridged series, but now that we're getting fantastic new material that really lets you flex your creative muscles without constraint I'm actually so happy things turned out the way they did!
Hopefully with the writing block for dba they get their groove back and make dba again

I love the repeating trend of trying to get Frieza to realize he'll be stuck in HFIL forever when in reality Frieza does get out. It adds hilarity to the background of Cell trying to knock Frieza down a peg in this series.
Frieza is going through this entire character arc just to get out in the end. What a legend.

Technically the "4th form" is their base form, Frieza uses the lower forms to help control his power. At least that's how it is in the canon DBZ, idk if it's the same in DBZA. So Freeza doesn't actually have a powerup transformation while Cooler does, which has to hurt.
Also, since King Cold is only ever in his "2nd form" and yet is comparable to Freeza in his power, imagine how strong he would be in his strongest form. Probably on SSJ2 level

Honestly with this animation style, they could very well make their OWN Bojack special.
Main reason they stopped at the cell saga was because future arcs and the bojack movie didn't have much to work on.

I like to think that the only reason why Freiza is so tortured through everything, is because out of everyone in HFIL, he is the only one who hasn’t admitted he lost.
In the sharing circles, everyone else went straight to the point of how they died, even Cell cut out ALOT of fat (most of which was the Ogres letting him go a little over time since he’s new), but Freiza went on this whole tirade (one that I’m sure he has used more than once) and pushed around the fact that he lost.
Also the fact he won’t own up to which Super Saiyan killed him.
It also works from a canonical perspective, since Freiza’s the only one still in Hell by the time Super rolls around.

Frieza having Daddy issues is honestly kinda interesting for me, I don't know why but I can see Frieza spilling the beans to cell about him very clearly being jealous of him and Cell is just like "Dang bro u got issues wanna talk?" And Frieza gets some very clearly needed therapy.

Well, Bojack never got his movie abridged. I guess he got killed by the destruction of King Kai’s planet.
Broly: Second Coming happens after the 7 year time-jump, so it’s possible that Raditz and whoever else can just graduate and go home before he ever comes around.
Very possible he's in a different part of Hell. Boujack and Cooler are clearly in a different part of Hell with their own regimen. King Cold and Dr. Gero also have connections and Cold mentioned in a previous episode that he oversees all sections of Hell that handle rehabilitation. Honestly the only villains I wouldn't expect to see is Garlic Jr or Sr since they're in the Dead Zone. Chilled technically doesn't exist in DBZA if the episode's ending about Gohan dreaming the thing to begin with, but I could be expected that Bardock would end up in HFIL considering his history of planetary slaughter and conquest for Frieza.

Man, the ending of this episode is packed with goodies. Two new onscreen characters, and the suggestion that Gero is around, too... somehow. You'd think that, being dead and without his cybernetic enhancements, he'd go straight through the soul scrubber machine no problem.
Well, Goku took his weighted clothes with him when he died so maybe gero got to keep his robot parts

The animation of Frieza's face during his talk with Cell, especially the shorter clips, are very impressive. I hope whoever did them feels proud of their work there.
Devil Artemis does, he actually does a lot of videos of Cell on his own channel. Infact he just recently updated Cell's textures and are using them here now. If you look, cell's "skin" is waaay more detailed now compared to the early episodes
