Ok to do the tuya to Alexa thing try this.
Using the same routine (without ifttt), if that specific light is detected in Samsung's smart things, you can create a virtual switch in smartthings that acts as a door sensor for Alexa. You don't even have to have a smartthings hub. If you link your tuya account in smartthings you will see many of your items are now supported.
To take this one step further, if smartthings can detect what brightness you have set the lamp to, it can run a different action depending on its brightness. And so make many virtual switches an trigger many routines.

Hey Paul, I have something similar set up. The way mine arms is either by voice command (like when I go to bed) or automatically by geofencing my phone. My camera system is geofenced so the system goes to "Guard" mode when I leave. Which also calls my phone and sends me pictures of what's going on. But ...
I don't rely solely on electronics to "scare the crap out of burglars". The gizmos are just icing on the cake as it were. What *really* scares the crap out of burglars is *_the gaping maw at the business end of the 12 gauge pump shotgun loaded with 3" magnum #4 buckshot_* confidently resting in my hands. I prefer the old fashioned method of burglar interdiction.
Funny thing about that ... Most all of my neighbors use the old fashioned method of burglar interdiction too. Within a 5 mile radius of my house the most serious crime that has occurred in the last 10 years was a mailbox being smashed by some kids. Who were apprehended moments later. It seems like this method is very effective at deterring crime. Go figure.
As always l love and look forward to your Saturday morning video releases. I always enjoy your videos and watch them with my morning coffee, whether what you feature is relevant to me or not. Cheers, keep up the good work.

    • @paulhibbert
      @paulhibbert  2 года назад +1

@@TheHellis Sod off. Seriously. 🤣 Almost all of this system is local. The only thing intimidating about Home Assistant doing this is that I wouldn't be able to achieve all of this stuff in the week I have to make the video, because nothing is ever intuitive and requires endless googling to resolve daft stuff that should work off the bat. Stop pretending to yourself that isn't the case.
I will make a video to prove exactly this, I will take you on the journey as I attempt it and we can all laugh the second that the keyfob is detected as a light bulb, and that I have to immediately pay a Nabu Casa subscription to get Alexa control of the bulbs, or that the geo fencing doesn't work and still thinks I'm in the house even though I've left (yes I've already tried this), or that I have to learn how to use node red because non of the standard automation functionality does what it says it will do. Then we can all fall over laughing when my SD card gives up the ghost and I have to start over with an SSD drive that I will have to learn how to get the Pi to recognise.
I love Home Assistant, and I love what it can do. What I don't understand is why a portion of its rabid fan base keeps acting like it's easy and can't wait to tell me how stupid I am for saving myself the hours of frustration by doing the exact same thing with Tuya in under a day. 🤷‍♂️ It's snobbery and pride I guess.

    • @TheHellis
      @TheHellis 2 года назад

@@paulhibbert all I can say is that everything makes perfect sense to me after using HA for about two years.
I understand there is a learning curve, but if you don't get in there you won't learn to swim.
Nabu casa is not required and you know that. So don't pretend it is.
However I do know it's much harder to use Alexa than Google home.
Google home is just added automatically and TTS is fairly simple to add.
Node red definitely has advantages, and I can admit I use Node red quite frequently when it's more complex automations but none of what you did in this automation would be hard to do in native HA automations.
It's just a bunch of call services.
And because everything (I assume) can be controlled from HA you won't need third party apps to check for light bulbs being on, everything can be controlled in one go from HA.
Making all these dependencies on each other like this is bound to break at some point.
I'm not saying its a poor job, it's just that it will fail on you.
Perhaps I'm wrong but if you unplug your internet then then IFTTT, Alexa and Tuya won't be able to see what the other just did, right?
So Tuya might turn on the alarm light but the others won't see it and therefore not react on it.
And that is the reason why you want your alarm (especially) to be controlled from one place only.
But hats off for finding a way to do it, it's just not the route I would have taken.
Why your key fob is detected as a light bulb is beyond me.
But I'm guessing you're using Tuya integration to HA and not a USB co-ordinator like conbee or similar.
Using other platforms to pair it with means you rely on their information being correct. Adding it directly to HA then it will be just a switch if it doesn't know anything else.

Great video with the Robovac inspiring me to finish off my alarm system. One way to automate a routine to avoid it going off whenever the door is open is through Home Assistant and Life360 (or possibly based directly on your phone's location). It arms when everyone in the house is absent and turns itself off when anyone is home. It can be done through the UI rather than the Yaml coding and you can effectively save the work you've done by the arming being a turning on the Tuya automation.

I always expect fun and informative videos from you, but this was above and beyond! A simple suggestion to make your system more “fun!” As you have multiple speakers around the house, get the sound of a large dog with a VERY angry growl (not a bark as it is very rare to find a speaker that accurately reproduces a barking sound). Now, take that sound clip and play it in one speaker, slowly fading it from that speaker as the next speaker picks the sound up. Have it “travel” about the house. Perhaps even have the “clicking” sound of dog claws (BIG dog claws) circling around with the growling sound… Such fun!

    Some other tips...
    - You need presence detection for the courier situation, and only trigger if not home.
    - Use the siren when the lights get 'switched off' by unwanted fingers and that then only happens once more.
    - Mine has freaked me out a couple of times when the presence detection thought I had left because it also gives a verbal countdown warning (it's a home ass, but we don't need to talk about that)
Oh and I was expecting Reginald to get one back on the ad guy, guess I'll wait for the next one to see that ;)

I have something like this on my todo list. I have one addition though, i would have the 7.2.4 surround sound system in my home theater, start blasting porno sound at max volume. That should alert the neighbours, more than an alarm siren. Because what is your first reaction when you hear a car-alarm? "Turn that crap off!" Right? But if your neighbour starts blasting porno at 120db in the middle of hte night, you are going to get out of bed, and go tell him off!

I took a slightly different approach over the last month or so and built an esp8266 based wrapper that interfaces to my somewhat elderly existing alarm system. It allows Alexa to both set and unset the alarm using a relay output based on either voice commands or as part of other Alexa routines, plus triggers several different Alexa routines using virtual buttons from thomptronics depending on what phase the burglar alarm is in (unset, exit delay expiring, alarm set, entry delay expiring, alarm sounding and back to unset). Like you, I have chosen lots of siren noises that play out of various speakers around the house for the active phases, along with voice messages warning dire consequences. I actually missed the obvious use of triggering house lights , but I will glue those into the routines in a few minutes time !! All of those routines trigger notifications to my phone as well, granting me a monitored alarm system without paying anyone an ongoing fee for that.
My favourite part of the system though is being able to use 2001 references about pod bay doors to the car Alexa as I get near home and have her disarm the burglar alarm, open the garage door and turn on some lights.

I have connected two sonoff basics with one supplying power to the second one.
Power goes to the first one called “Alarm switch” then that one supply power to the second one called “Buzzer switch” and this of course then supply power to a buzzer.
    • If the alarm is disarmed the alarm switch is off and of course the buzzer switch then has no power and cannot be switched on.
    • If alarm is armed the alarm switch is switched on and the buzzer switch is off but have power.
    • If the alarm is activated by a sensor the buzzer switch is also turned on.
This will sound the buzzer and kick off any scene that is setup if the buzzer switch is turned on.
All my door sensors always try and turn on the buzzer switch but can only do so if the alarm switch is on and supplying power to the buzzer switch. Allowing me to arm or disarm the buzzer by turning on or off the alarm switch.
Recon you can also have a scene to insult a burglar only when the buzzer switch is turned on. In my case all lights are switched on.
I have done this in HomeAssistant but recon it should be possible without.
    Hope it helped.

    Hey guys,
because I love Pauls channel and I was looking for some help I just post my problem here :D
So I was wondering whether you guys have any idea how to implement the following scenario:
    Used devices:
    - Amazon Echo Dot (4th generation)
    - Philips Hue Motion Sensor
    - SwitchBot Contact Sensor
What I want to accomplish is building an alarm system with these devices.
Scenario: When I am leaving my house I will take the magentic piece of my contact sensor with me, thus setting the status of the sensor to "left open" and because of that arming the alarm system.
2 possible implementations came into my find:
    1) An Alexa routine with 2 conditions. First when the Motion Sensor is in state "left open" AND second when motion is detected. But as far as I know there can only be one condition in an Alexa routine.
    2) Enabling/Disabling an Alexa routine by tacking the magnetic piece with me (I already have a routine that fits perfectly fine, but I should have a way to enable it only when I am not at home. As far as I know enabling/disabling Alexa routines can only be done inside the Alexa app (voice command or custom command doesn't work. Probably because this is only implemented for the US market)...so this is a little uncomfortable)
Do you have any idea how I can get this to work? It doesn't have to be done via an Alexa routine, I will be happy for any alternative suggestion. I tried using IFTTT, Speech Monkey, etc. but they couldn't do what I wanted to accomplish.
Thanks in advance and have a great start into the new week.
    Greetings from Germany
    Dennis
