What wonderful stories! I can't believe the woodpecker scenario was real!!! Only Carl Reiner could have adapted it to the show & make it so hysterical! I miss Carl Reiner. He was always a good guest on talk shows. Also, loved the story that Larry auditioned for the Potsie role on Happy Days. You could only imagine what he could have done with the part. Great interview. I consider myself an expert on the child actors of classic TV. There were four child stars who were absolutely brilliant: Billy Gray from Father Knows Best; Jerry Mathers from Leave It To Beaver; Ron Howard from The Andy Griffith Show; and Larry Matthews from The Dick Van Dyke Show. (Sorry Danny Thomas … Rusty’s acting was forced and over done.) Out of these four brilliant actors, I have to say that Larry really was the best. I’ve watched every episode of TDVDS 100 times. I no longer watch it for amusement. I watch it to admire the performances. Larry is amazing. Just watch the pilot. His delivery in that one episode stops me in my tracks. He’s so believable and innocent. I don’t think he’s been properly recognized for his talent. Love you Larry!!!!
