This is my reaction, analysis and breakdown of Morissette Amon’s great performance of her new Bruno Mars Medley. This featured a lot of classic songs and some great singing. I enjoyed all the power, Morissette’s great musicality, and the pretty diverse choices in vocal placement that we have gotten. This song features some great riffs and interpretations of melodies.
However I have to say my favorite part of this performance would be the incredible arrangement. The hits and the transitions were really well thought out and together. Whoever wrote this chart did a great job, I’m assuming it’s someone on her team.
I am a jazz/R&B vocalist, baritone saxophone player, music educator, and vocal coach local to New Orleans. I have two degrees in jazz/music education and work professionally playing music. Thank you for all the support on these videos! It is such a joy to create educational, entertaining content for you. I think a lot of the growls and stuff you mentioned are characteristic of Bruno Mars so I feel like she kinda had to do a lot of those things to keep the integrity of the songs and Bruno Mars artistic style.
and i think for the most part it's the attitude, the emotions.

Can't blame other people complaining because some of them have their own preferences. Some people would like reactors to react at the end of the song because they want to enjoy the song along with the reactor and see their facial reaction or the emotion felt from the song . Some people would also love the technicals, but some find it annoying if done too much. Note also that not all the subscribers are singers, so it is good to be aware of your audience as well. But overall, I respect your comment but you can't please everyone..

Mori is the best! No one could top her. And i hope Bruno Mars will get together and collab...i think it'll happen. i have faith. Also, when you have time, you really should check out Gigi de Lana! She's one of the singers coming out from the philippines, but they blew up over covid cause they do a lot of Live requests. The band i believe were originally from a Jazz background, so she does a lot of scatting and improvisation through the songs. Morissette was trained by her father which is a rock vocalist.. That's why her voice was like a rockstar... But more than that she explores her singing ability in every genre to develop her singing skills.. And now she's a DIVA..
I do understand your concern on her growls. Maybe it's because of the arrangement like the genre they chose. Nonetheless I really appreciate your analysis. I am learning about legatto, stecatto, glotis and many more. I haven't been in a singing lesson but watching your reactions compared to other reactors makes me learn alot about singing, styles, and placements. You're a great teacher!!!

I can't say I am a Chaka "Fan" But I really Love her and every Classic i Know It's Fire and she was/is an amazing Live performer with huge and obvious Jazz influences, I think her Father was a Jazz musicial or something. Ah Mori she is amazing! Great Performance. She giving me Charice Pempengco (Now jake zyrus) Vibes and ofc I'm hearing the Mariah Influence although she chose the more simple approach, cause we know Mariah would have used alot of staccatos and more complex register changes that can some times getting tiring for some people. I like that Mori evolve more to her personal and real style while she keep her influences there. Most of the problems on newer singers is that they keep of copy their idols and can't find their own identity, Thats not the case with Mori, I think she have found her true sound and its beautiful.Great Video Erika made my Weekend once more :)
One of the things I love about Morissette is that even though she has a catalog of stylistic choices in her voice she doesn’t uses it in every performance. Even though she kept this medley close to the originals songs … somehow she still managed to put her own style and swagger into the performance. Now that is a sign of a great musical artist!

In my opinion there’s not really a lot of growls. It’s just that every song she sings here was the climax with a grit. Anyways her growls are melodic to my ear. Not everyone growls like her.

So I'm going to start with a suggestion.....I feel you should maybe do a full "run through" of the performance first in your videos so we can actually see your physical reaction to the performance BEFORE you break it down. I COMPLETELY appreciate your expertise and knowledge but I just don't get the "feeling" of how you actually feel about the entire performance when it's SO "disjointed" with your commentary. I love the way you breakdown, analyses Morissette's vocals, even the different instruments on this Bruno Mar's evolution medley. In my 2nd language, "magaling ka!" (you're good!). My first language is the Cebuano language (same as Morissette Amon-Lamar. English (American) is my 3rd language.
But, I would love to hear you do a sax solo.... My Way - Sinatra), Hit the Road Jack (Ray Charles), or one, that's best for you. Are you well known already in New Orleans? I like the tone of your voice also. And the segment where you, "she doesn't do this... and you sing the partcular phrase or word. I don't know how to play any musical instrument, even a 3-string ukelele, but the Saxophone, is the best woodwind instrument for me.

Thank you, Erika! This is the longest reaction to Mori’s Bruno medley I’ve seen, and I love it. I was all ears listening to your technical/anatomical explanations in music and singing. So interesting. Thing is, many of our Filipino singers-untrained yet talented-just sing “by feel,” I think. Kind of like someone musically unschooled just playing the piano “de oído,” or by ear, and yet doing it well
This is what I love about Morissette - she's had some training, not a ton, and yet she has the technical facility, polish and professionalism of someone who has studied for years and years. If I didn't know anything about her, I would have guessed she's had more training than she really has. To me, she stands out from the crowd in that regard.

@@erikatorresmusic_ Her dad was a rock singer/musician and she was actually named after two famous musicians - Johann Sebastian Bach and Alanis Morissette. Her full name is Johanne Morissette Daug Amon (Daug being her mother's family name and Amon being her father's). I imagine her dad was pretty serious about music, especially if he named her after J.S. Bach of all people haha. I don't know what kind of training or background he had himself, but he clearly did something right with her.
Erika, since you like Mariah, you might enjoy this video of her former producer Rhett Lawrence talking about discovering Morissette and working with her. He saw some of her videos on RUclips, went to some of her shows to meet her, and they forged an agreement for her to sign with Capitol Records after her then-contract expired and work with him and some other top producers in the US. Hi Erika. First off, thank you for your numerous concerns to the Filipino community in regards to the natural disaster there, shows you have such a kind heart and good soul. Also massive respect to the fans in occasionally communicating in the singers native language. This video you really worked on, such detail in the analysis. It is easy to gain views by always saying "sounds great! Wow! The best ever" like other reaction youtubers, but you really get into the analysis. I can pick up your hints especially when I watch her video again uninterrupted. I admire that you are unbiased by also picking out some parts that you did not agree on eg. "growls". I agree Morissette Amon is a fabulous singer, especially this singing performance. As you said , such energy and positivity she give out, makes me forget all my worries. Keep up the videos.
