Would've never thought the Valve intro uses sounds of laughter pitched up and filtered...you guys have a great ear, and I say this as a guy who has worked with a lot of samples! Great job compiling this stuff.
4:59 I always heard that part when it fades out and now we have closure! 5:14 Also heard in the MechWarrior 2 soundtrack. 3DO also made a lot of use out of the Symphonic Adventures in Army Men II and Toys in Space (whereas the first game used military tracks from, I think, Universal as well as Larry's Orchestral Adventure). Saki Kaskas also used a lot of those samples in the track "Flimsy" in Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit, particularly the scare chords and hits whenever you crashed.
This is great, Its funny, some of the songs were I was sure there were heavy sampled were almost all original and some totally the contrary, I hope more sources of the sound files are found, we could have some day a remaster of the original sounds in 16 bits instead of 8 as they where shipped with the game. (support for 16 bits was added later to the engine)
This crap's amazing man... such an eye opener! There's so many parts that I didn't notice in the tracks before. Definitely gonna relisten to the soundtrack with this new knowledge in mind!
Anyone else who bought HL new in shops in 1998? 😉 That orange big box with the folding cover. Some of those tracks, like Alien Shock, sound almost ”Reznorian”. I guess the composer was a real preset hound! And course you gotta always throw in a few jungle/D&B grooves!
11:20 this effect here gives me super huge transistor bass vibes, like EXTREMELY close resemblance to this synth in particular and how it sounds, and if that's the case, then its easy to say they either made it on the fly as a simple tune loop, or it was pitched down, ill have to go through their sample list in FL Studio at some point in the future
I think it's really crazy how much work went into the soundtracks back then But it must have been a tough job for you to figure everything out Half Life was the first first person shooter I ever played And the soundtracks simply blew the game away It's simply brilliant what you can conjure up from samples instead of generating it all yourself or designing the sounds yourself, e.g. digitally via DAW Great job you did Another part of the Half Life mysteries solved Thank you very much In any case, a subscription and a like are on it I look forward to more videos on this topic

The Drumbeat at 7:04 sounds like a processed sample from "Distorted Reality" - The sound at 9:02 sounds pretty much like the "Tron Lightcycle"-Sound that was a Preset in the P5. That drone sound at 11:18 could be the JP8000 (the feedback oscillator has that distinct sound and "feel"), layered with another sound. Also the "healing pond" sound could be a sample from "Distorted Reality"
