LEAVE IT TO BEAVER CAST REUNION

- A local Los Angeles TV station taped a reunion for the cast of "Leave It To Beaver" in 1980 including a rare appearance by Hugh Beaumont as Ward Cleaver. Join Barbara Billingsley, Hugh Beaumont, Jerry Mathers, Tony Dow, Ken Osmond, Frank Bank & Richard Deacon as they reminisce about starring in one of the all-time classic TV shows & the impact it had on their lives.
Ken Osmond sadly passed away in 2020. After the show he was a Lapd motorcycle officer and was shot 3 times during a foot pursuit. He was saved because 2 bullets struck his protective vest while the third deflected off of his belt buckle. Rip Ken Osmond, you were my favorite on the show.
What can I say? In my 60 year old opinion, and as a man, probably the best family sitcom in history! 👍😊
I have to agree with you. I still watch today. It's on METV 7 days a week and its on another channel. I think FETV
The whole series is on Roku also. I binge watched the whole six years in a few months.😃
Jerry Mathers is only one month older than I am!
I'm with you man...also 60. We were past the intended demographic, but we're old enough to realize the sublime quality of the show--of the generation of which we were the tail-end
yea mother was a ball buster
Hugh Beaumont ! One of the greatest TV dads ever !!
I feel like he would have been the same kind of dad IRL as he was on LITB
I don't ever remember seeing this reunion show and I definitely had not seen footage of Hugh Beaumont after LITB .
I never did as a child of course, but as an adult I kinda have a crush on Ward Cleaver. Never thought that would happen. 🥰📺
Mr Cleaver was a busy body at times and caused more trouble for the boys.
@@Brett33 I’ve seen him a movie, but don’t recall the name (maybe more than just one).
The wife and I still watch the old reruns today. Never get tired of it.
Awesome to see Hugh Beaumont in his later years before he passed. He was the best TV Dad ever, & probably a great Dad in real life too.
A few months ago, I read an article about Hugh. His children said he was pretty much the same kind of dad in real life that he was in Leave It To Beaver. Never raised his voice at his children and would have talks with them.
He was also a minister!@@trey87
June and Ward Cleaver were the kind of parents we all wish we had growing up. So sad to realize most all of the cast is gone now except for Jerry Mathers. Watching re-runs of LITB makes me nostalgic for times gone by.
This is one for the history books - especially seeing Hugh being interviewed after his stroke. Priceless!
Hugh actually revived his acting career in the late '60's. He appeared on an episode of Mannix and a few other things
@Tim young also gone through is Frank Banks (Lumpy).
@@janispendleton9734 And Whitey.💔
@Tim young They are all gone except the Beav and a couple of his friends.
Frank Bank was underrated. What great characters these were. Miss and RIP Tony, Ken, Frank, Barbara, and Hugh.
Love seeing Hugh Beaumont again!
He aged very well
As a very young African American little boy born in the middle 50s, this was one of my favorite shows. But because it aired one year after I was born, the episodes that I would watch they were in their teens. But later on they started showing reruns and that’s when I got a chance to appreciate the characters because they were younger and in my opinion funnier. But hands down my favorite character was Eddie Haskel.
there is no such thing as an african American contrary to what you have been told
I agree. Eddie was classic. Just classic. And a part of me felt sorry for him always wanting to be a big shot.
You had a great post.
7:40 - you can see the admiration that Tony Dow had for Ken Osmond by the way Tony is looking at Ken describe his life. That is a look of total admiration and friendship.
AND his admiration for Hugh too, er ah, [pardon the rhyme!!!!!!!
Watching this in Aug 2022, after Tony Dow passed. So amazing to see all of them as adults. I never saw this before. Great post. Thank you.
It was like visiting with old friends that you loved and respected but had not seen in many years! Jerry is the only one left now and God Bless their souls. RIP!
I was born in 1952. Grew up with Beaver. Leave it to Beaver is one of the top 3 TV shows EVER made! 🥰🥰🥰
I didn't grow up with Beaver, early seventies reruns just didn't have this show. I found it a few years ago on MeTV, and now it's as if I did see it as a kid. It's nice to be able to escape into a world where the problems could be solved in 30 minutes. It's tv comfort food.
One of the greatest shows on television, I don't think anything like this can be recreated.
They won't create anything now with an intact family unit where there are morals and respect.
Amen
This must *definitely* be the very last time that Hugh Beaumont ever played Ward Cleaver! Great find!
I watched this show every day as a kid. Ward and June Cleaver were my tv parents
That was so great to see especially seeing Huge Beaumont in his later years before his passing.
So many of my favorite moments were the scenes between Eddie and Mrs. Cleaver when he'd first enter their home
This was a show for the ages. It will never get old and will always be loved. It was honest but funny. What more could you ask for.
Hugh Beaumont was always my favorite TV dad. What a great show back then
I feel like society was much better off in many ways back when this show aired. Family values and morals. Society is missing these things today.
Great times. Minorities knew their place and stayed in their parts of town. Gays stayed in the closet. Women only worked until they met the right man and settled down to raise a family.
You may want to go back to those times, but most of don't.
bingo . 100%
Totally agree!!!
People were being lynched when this show was aired
@@spikejonzelover420 You did read where I said " In many ways " right?
Before I saw this, I would never have guessed that Hugh Beaumont participated in a LTB retrospective interview AND actually played a skit with Tony Dow! Fills in a huge gap for the fans of the show, thanks for posting!
I think you meant LGBTQ Paul.
@@punkanellylovejoy702 LITB.
It sure made ME feel a lot better seeing Hugh involved, REALLY warmed my heart from that knawing feeling...what COULD have been if Hugh had lived to appear in the reunion movie, it made me SO sad that he passed away not long before they made it, and then seeing this a few months ago, THANK YOU for posting the video, they did a GREAT job making it, I love the reenactments, and hearing what everybody has to say, I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!
I loved Eddie Haskell! He was the reason why this show was so popular.
Little but the name of the show was to the point "Leave it to Beaver." All characters put in the show where they fitted but Beaver as a young man growing up is not a ordinary child. He openly says what's on his mind which makes you laugh! Enjoy the reruns!😊
I've never seen this before.
look at Mel Cooley.
RIP to all.
God bless you and thank you for the laughs
The secondary characters, Eddie Haskell, Lumpy Rutherford & his dad, Larry Mondello & his mom, were exceptional.
Watching this you realize how innocent even 1980 was
TV was more innocent, not real life.
So true.
As a child this was my favorite TV show. I remember faking being sick a couple times just so I could stay home and watch Leave it to Beaver. They were the perfect family. 🙂RIP Hugh, Tony, Barbara and all the others who have passed away. 🙏
I mention in my book that I learned to love the show after seeing Jerry Mathers and Jay North (Dennis the Menace) interviewed by Charlie Rose back in 1981 or 1982. Jerry was so thankful for his experience and didn't have one bad word to say about LITB. However, Jay North had nothing good to say about his life, his experience on Dennis the Menace, etc. I stopped watching Dennis the Menace then and began watching LITB. Have loved it and Jerry Mathers ever since.
@@TheWorldFamousBeaverpedia I didn't see the interview but would like to know what Jay North had to say. Always interesting to learn about the "inside" of our favorite shows and stars.
I think just Jerry Mathers is the sole survivor. Heaven has: *Wally, Eddie, Lumpy, June (Mother), Ward (Dad), Richard Deacon (Lumpys Dad), Whitey (Beavers Friend)*
*Miss Landers (One of Beavers Teachers), Gus The Fireman, Penny Woods (One of Beavers classmates) Julie Foster ( Wally Dated) .* There are more... 🌟🎶✝⛪ ❤
@@garychambers5850 Penny (Karen Sue Trent) has not necessarily passed away even though IMDB lists her as deceased. They have her biography totally messed up. I spoke to the brother of the woman named Karen Sue Trent mentioned in the IMDB listing and she was not an actress. That was the first part of research I did for my nearly 500 page book on Leave it to Beaver that has been out for a few months now. IMDB gets so many things wrong :(
@@garychambers5850 Stephen Talbot/Gilbert is still living at 74.😃
I'm 57 years old and this show was already off the air and canceled before I was born in 1964, but I can tell you this, Leave it to Beaver and all its cast members has brought many smiles and laughs to me for many years, and many years to come.....Rest in peace Tony Dow as he just passed away a couple months ago.
I totally agree. I'm the same age as you. I got hooked on the show when it aired in reruns. It is great fun.
I was born in 1962 & still watch leave it to beaver in reruns I just love that style of people the father figure, the respect of the people & crazy Eddie 😂, quotes,👍
Leave it to beaver has always been one of my favorite classic shows . I'm 62 and I still watch it . The episode _ In The Soup is one of my favorites . So funny .@@Lava1964
I'm 54 it was on everyday after school.
best show ever
Richard Deacon was hysterical as well as Ken Osmond.
Mr Rutherford would occasionally call his son Lumpy, but correct himself and say Clarence. Hahaaaa
That was hysterical.
This was one of the best reunion shows I’ve ever seen. Most of them are ridiculous over the top, changing the original storylines.
This was really fun! I grew up in the 50's and 60's and I watched LITB religiously.. I find it hysterical that as a 74 year old man Jerry Mathers can still look wide eyed with astonishment like a little kid!! I sure was saddened that Tony recently left us... these were truly people we invested our time in and had a great deal of respect for. Thank you for sharing this Sweet Memory. ✨️💛
Great show. Great cast. I watch it everyday on
MeTV.
MeTV plays heavily butchered versions of the episodes. If you want to get the real experience, you need to watch it on either DVD or a streaming service that plays it *unaltered.*
Barbara Billingsly speaking jive in the movie Airplane was her greatest role, according to her.
I *highly doubt* that she called it her "greatest role." She probably said something such as that it is the most unlike her real self.
This was so much fun. Leave It To Beaver is still my favorite old show.
This was a treat. A big piece of priceless television history. I watch the show almost everyday.
This was a real treat to watch tonight! 📺 I still watch the old Leave It To Beaver re-runs, I’m almost 60 & have watched this show all my life. Watching it these days always takes me back to a better time in life, simpler days & happier times of childhood youth.
DITTO 😊❤️👍
10:38 - I seriously laughed hard at that. To this day, Barbara talking jive in Airplane is still one of the most insane, humorous things I've ever seen in the entertainment world!
Its nice seeing the cast reprise their roles for this program. They easily fall right back into it :)
This was one of my favorite shows as a kid, always got a laugh out of Eddie Haskell joking with The Beaver
This was super! And sadly, Jerry is the only one still with us from this awesome group. I hadn't seen Hugh Beaumont since the final episode of LITB. That was a treat. What a class guy! All of 'em.
That was great I've hadn't either Great guy and he did do a good job onthe show 👏
He was on petticoat junction 2 episodes
Gilbert was still alive the last I heard..
Lumpy is hysterical even as an adult.
I enjoy this show. I know their reruns but so much love of a family with friends that can humor you. I watch the shows after Sunday church. It brings me joy to watch! It's March 19,2023. Thank you for reruns. 🥰
The re-enactment scenes was a GENIUS idea! It was GREAT seeing Mr. Beaumont! The actors were very talented and was able to easily fall back into their characters. I think it’s skits like this that brought back the series.
Yes!!! Their cadence and timing are perfect. They did fall right back into their characters! It’s great.
Yes seeing Beaumont was the best part, I never knew he had a Stroke only one after the show ended.
And rate of a great ep
iso to seede on living fever I'm sure this one o rape movie cast honest
This is a great interview with all the cast members! Especially with Hugh Beaumont. The only mistake was Hugh Beaumont did not suffer a stroke till 1972. Not 1964. He co-starred on Petticoat Junction and the police drama Mannix in the years after Beaver. Great actor he was! All of them!
This is great, all actors took their roles seriously and their professionalism just shines.
Only the Beaver Jerru Mathers still with us. Love that show and Andy Griffith.
Thanks for the comment Michael.
All are great. I watch MASH also.
I love MASH. So funny until Henry Blake, Trapper John and Frank Burns left. After that, it was never the same.
This is pure gold! Who knew this existed??? Thanks for posting!
I just discovered it for the first time too!!!!!
Yes✌️😊
What fun this was to watch in August of 2022 shortly after the passing of Tony Dow. Only Jerry Mathers is left. Wow. I watched LITB from the beginning and dozens and dozens of rerns as I am just about Jerry's age. Thank you for posting this.
Same
They all seemed to have had many of the character traits, which endeared us to their television characters. RIP Tony Dow ( and of course the rest of cast that passed away).
I could watch this gem over and over again....thank you so much for posting this; what a treasure to watch...
I wish they would have gotten Eddie Haskell calling people "Clem" , "Gertrude" or some of the other names. I never understood that as a little kid watching this show and now I think it's priceless
I know right Bill?. Me too. I'm glad that I just found it.

I still watch it. I'm 65.
Same here! And I'm 68! 😁
I laughed and cried tears of joy watching this. Hugh & Richard especially. This popped UP on YT recommended. It did NOT disappoint.
Hi Michael, I just wanted to let you know that I think you are a winner.
Oh, this interview was great. Thanks so much for sharing. It was great seeing Hugh Beaumont. Great memories. Especially with many of the cast now gone.
Rest In Peace Ken and Tony. 💔
Wonderful cast...little did the actors know when they were making this show that it would go down in TV history as one of the great family sitcoms of all time.
When Tony Dow was asked by interviewer Stu Shostak how long it took him to realize he was part of something special with Leave it to Beaver, Tony answered, "About twenty years."
I remember leave it to Beaver when I was a kid, I remember when it came on about 1957, it was a wonderful shell and everybody worked real well together, and it seem like a real family not just a TV family but they actually appeared to be a real cohesive family. It was nice to see them again after all these years. Thank you
One of my favorites of all time and always looked forward to watching the show. She is right, I think children wanted this family life. I wish we had this life and long for it today. Loved them all. Thank you for this video.
And now the story line comes full circle and remains the same in "Leave It To Beaver" for only Jerry Mathers is alive out of this interviewed cast group. But of course they all will continue to live on in TV reruns. RIP dear cast members, thanks for our wonderful black and white TV time we all had growing up as baby boomers watching the show..
I loved this show. I purchases the entire DVD collection. Every once in a while when feeling off I watch a few episodes and feel better. I'm Tony's age and just watched life go bye really fast. Enjoy life because it really goes fast.
It's great to see someone recorded and saved this video. Many of us grew up watching this show. Learned a lot of good lessons from Ward and June. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic!!! Loved this!! Great to see Hugh Beumont after LITB
🙂
Brilliantly done! Brought a smile to my face and a warm feeling inside.
Man, what a treat! What a great clip! It was always disappointed that we never saw Hugh Beaumont in Still the Beaver. This, at least gives up a small glimpse into what it would've been like to see Grandpa Ward. I suppose it's impossible to think that this TV station still has this clip available. It would've been nice to see the entire things. So cool to see this! Thanks for posting it!
Omgoodness. This made my day yall. Seeing ward clever in that clip with wally all grown up!!
Mastalgic
That's because Hugh Beaumont died a year before the reunion movie. In the movie plot, Ward Cleaver had died in 1977.
There a reason Still the Beaver isn't being shown? AND it would have been great to have had Grandpa Ward on the show. I do remember they paid tribute to him on one scene where June was talking to him at his resting spot.
Yes, they paid homage to Hugh with a cemetery scene in the Movie of the Week and mentioned him throughout the series.
100% pure gold! The addressing of rumors part was priceless! 😂😂😂
All great people. I always loved Richard Deacon he seemed like a genuinely good person.
I grew up watching "Leave it to Beaver". It was great to watch this reunion interview with all the insights into the character formation and the behind the scenes "goings on". Ahh, a simpler time it was back then.
This is so interesting to see ! Especially hearing Eddie Haskell /Kent osmond spoke out of his normal character . Regular people just acting . Talented
Too bad we lost Hugh B. just two years later from a heart attack in 1982, the year I graduated college. I am 63 now. Before there was Mr. Brady, he was the world's greatest dad!!
It was a great and wholesome show. My niece has a friend named Ellie and my mom called her Ellie Haskell when she was a kid because she reminded her of Eddie Haskell. 😁
I love this! My all time favorite show is Leave It To Beaver!
This was great. I loved the show in reruns as a kid. It's one of those shows that have, what I call, a "good feel" to them. You fully enjoy any episode. The reunion clips were hilarious! RIP Tony.
I enjoyed watching Leave It To Braver on syndication during the mid 1960's when I was between six and nine years of age. In retrospect it was nice to see this reenactment footage of the original cast members playing out their roles during this interview. Wally was the coolest Older Brother You'll Ever See On A Black & White Television Set In The World -Tony Dow - RIP. ⚾🌹📺
It would really have been a greater reunion if Larry Mondelo, Whitey, Gilbert, Judy, and Mary Ellen Rogers would have been present during this taping, even though most of these actors have passed on, the imprint that they left in our memories will never be forgotten, thanks for the memories.
I love all the characters you mentioned.

@@kimtrells6046 if I did research a while back, I believe their is 7 or 8 cast members alive. Jerry Mathers is still alive. Sad about Tony Dow.
Maybe they only wanted or could afford to bring in actors who appeared in every season to the reunion. Too many characters would have diluted the reunion for the time alloted. I do agree it would have been neat to see everyone you mentioned plus Alma Hansen and Julie Foster. Stephen Talbot (Gilbert) wanted nothing to do with LITB in 1980.
This is priceless! Thanks for posting this.
always wondered how still the beaver would have been like had hugh beaumont had lived. always thought the clip they showed in the 83 movie of beaver reading the essay about his father was a nice tribute to both ward cleaver and the man who portrayed him. to this day when i see that episode on metv i always cry when beaver reads that essay at the end of it
I'm always choked up when their father opens the package with his hunting jacket. Reminds me of my love for my Papa. We don't really recognize it until after their gone.
Thanks lady and gentlemen!! For the memories you gave me in black and white!!
I saw this when it originally aired in L.A. I grew up on the reruns and I still watch the show on TUBI. Great cast and one of the best shows ever.
Wow this video is absolutely priceless. It was great to finally see Hugh Beaumont in some thing. I can’t for the life of me figure out why they didn’t have more reunion shows. It would’ve been great to have had a reunion show in 1968,73, 78, 83.
Reunion shows didn't become a thing until the mid-seventies. I think Gilligan's Island was the first one.

All one can do now is look back, smile and perhaps cry. One of the finest television shows ever crafted. It taught many of us real-world lessons and morals to live by, but also, it reminds us of a bygone era of innocents, long before the Beatles, assassinations, war, terrorism, political divide, etc... Jerry Mathers is the only one left now. Who knew just how prophetic "Leave it to Beaver" would become. We have indeed, left it all to the "Beev."
What a treat! Had no idea this video existed. Especially nice to see Hugh Beaumont and Richard Deacon. Thanks alot.
