It’s cool that you are about as old as I am and you’ve been around for the entire history of videogames like I have. From the late 70s to now it’s been a wild ride to see the changes take place in graphics and gameplay. It’s been awesome. And it makes me very grateful. Thanks so much. Love yr channel too!! ✌🏻😊
Hi! I am the one speedrunner of OUTBUDDIES DX, and I help route runs for Rebel Transmute (getting a big update soon!). Here's some notes for OUTBUDDIES I'm writing as I'm watching the review. - My favorite part of the platforming personally is the mechanic involving shooting down in the air with your gun, specifically the Seahorse Revolver/green gun. You can use it to propel yourself higher very slightly, and I find its actually a great platforming aid, letting you cross certain gaps much easier, scale things further (esp w/ Charge Shot), and overall adds a layer to the game that I find fun. - The "DX" part is due to how many updates the game got that effectively felt like the game received a "Directors Cut", if I remember the Dev's reasoning - The pixel art is scaleless! The pixel art keeps its fidelity no matter the screen resolution - I do agree that the game does frankly have some really confusing progression to it, the distinct lack of NPCs around the map or very obvious "HEY SOMETHIN INTERESTING HERE" type landmarks/platforms doesn't help it. The Dev tried rectifying this with adding exclamation points on the map in certain rooms to indicate just that, with limited success imo. - The game's bosses are genuinely some of the most difficult parts of this game, especially the final boss. The game lacks any type of permanent health upgrades, with only temporary +5 health upgrades you can get before bosses that cost a Treasure of the Old One each to get. I hope someday, the game can get a sequel of some kind, with a more refined approach to the design the original had gameplay wise, and more lore bits to chew on. Overall, I agree w/ your ranking :-)
Thanks for sharing your insights, especially the exclamation points on the map. I’m not certain if I forgot about those or if they didn’t exist when I played the game.
Should be noted that Rebel Transmute is getting a major content patch on Jan. 6th that heavily updates the base game with inclusions like a new gun, save warping, and a redesigned map.
Thanks for letting me know. I unfortunately had this video finished and uploaded before that update’s announcement, but I’ll be sure to play it and make a video when it comes out.
It's a shame to see this series go, I think it's a bit of a shame you didn't get to replay and possibly re-rank Aestik now that the DLC is out (and some other small things), I look forward to whatever you do next!
I have another series called “Metroidvania Revisited” where I replay MVs that have received updates and re-rank them. I’ll definitely be doing Aestik soon.
Grime is not ugly Wished you would have shown more than just the first part of the game Feels like you only showed that to drive home your opinion. Also loved Record Of Lodoss War back in the days!
I only showed the first part to prevent spoilers. As for calling the game ugly, I guess I should clarify that I meant the character models and some of the environments. But I believe that was by design, so I don’t hold it against the game.
Deedlit is a type of MV i'd like to see more. Really rpg based while we're taking a look at the combat system, we're not getting lost too much and there's not the "what am i supposed to do now" that made me quit sometimes (especially hollow knight. I think this game's really overrated when we look to the whole MV scene developped afterward). Deedlit story actually touched me a lot, it's simple and learns you something. And exploding ennemies is a bunch of fun. I'd recommand it to MV newcomers alongside Gesalt steam and Cinder which was amazing as well.
I would love to see you do a review/analysis of Laika: Aged Through Blood. It’s one of the most unique and best metroidvania games I have ever played. From the one hit/mistake and your dead gameplay. To the excellent and touching mature story telling. And with one of the best soundtracks In any metroidvania game. It’s an incredible game! IMO
Record Of Lodoss War: Deedlit In Wonder Labyrinth ONLY C TIER? Man same assets Team Lady Bug used in Touhou Luna Nights! Why only C Tier? I FULLY DISAGREE! This should be at least A Tier!
It’s cool we disagree. I will say I like Deedlit and think it’s a good game. This list is to just prioritize MVs by their MV-ness. If someone looks at Deedlit and thinks they’ll love it, I say give it a shot.
59:27 2013 Release Metroidvania by Endless Fluff Games, Valdis Story: Abyssal City IS AUTOMATICALLY "S TIER" METROIDVANIA! This should have been the NUMBER ONE METROIDVANIA OF THE DECADE 2010'S! This can easily "DETHRONE HOLLOW KNIGHT"! This game was not marketed properly that is why this is a hidden gem instead of EXPLODING IN POPULARITY GENERATING HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF SALES! Trust me on this one when I say this Metroidvania Players! This is a metroidvania that have lots of replayability, combos, interesting characters because you can play FOUR CHARACTERS and many things for you to back track and to explore! Endless Fluff Games should get a good publisher once they plan to make a sequel of Valdis Story!
I really liked how smooth record of lodos war played so it's B tier for me. Moonlight pulse was tons of fun and a perfect microvania although it's not that small, high B tier for me. I absolutely hate rebel transmute being the 2nd worst MV i played after that terrible game monster boy and the cursed Kingdom. Grime is alright but unfortunately the studio is based in a country that's doing some horrible things. I'm being vague to avoid offending anyone but my conscience doesn't allow me to recommend it and i will not be picking up the sequel before it's resolved.
1:07:30 DUDE I WAS THE FIRST ONE WHO RECOMMENDED AND REQUESTED TO YOU TO PLAY AND REVIEW THIS GAME VALDIS STORY: ABYSSAL CITY PROGRAMMED BY ENDLESS FLUFF GAMES! I recommended this game to you since 2023 in the months of May up to August! I NEED TO FULLY DISAGREE WITH YOU PUTTING THIS ONE ON C TIER as this game clearly can easily match and surpass Hollow Knight! This is easily an S TIER! You contradicted yourself here saying that you are asking for a sequel "LETS GO" Endless Fluff then saying that they are making a Beat 'Em Up now in the world of Valdis Story. If this is not S to you but easily an A Tier! This game have many replayabitliy compared to Monster Boy & The Cursed Kingdom which has no replay value but you put it on A Tier?! YOUR JUDDMENT AND OPINION OF THE GAMES IS HIGHLY QUESTIONABLE! We players have our own preferences, opinions and play style! You should now have a criteria on how you judge and review games before you put it on any tier! I AM UNSUBSCRIBING NOW! Your opinion and ratings of all the games on this video DISAPPOINTS ME!
Hello. Sorry if this video disappointed you. We all have our opinions. But don’t take these rankings as a direct reflection of the games’ quality. This tier list is just to prioritize games by their Metroidvania-ness. Every game on this list has value beyond how well they serve the genre. You mentioned how I should have criteria to judge the games I place on the tier list. I actually do. I have a video I link in every installment’s description. Feel free to view it if you’re interested.
Farewell to this series, and thanks for all the hard work you put into it!
I’m sure I’ll replace it with something new soon. There are so many games on this list I wanna amend 😆

Best dedicated metroidvania channel on the net . I'll miss this series but I look forward to the next 👍

Valdis Story is my favorite Metroidvania of all time, thank you for covering it.

@@MetroidvaniaGuru Oo that sounds interesting, I think the dlc did well for platforming, and optional challenge
love the art style for Valdis Story

That is why it is disagreeable! He explained so I as well explained my reason.
I agree with MVG, C tier Metroidvania.

I heard! I can’t wait! I plan on doing a Metroidvania Revisited video on it.
I hope you retcon Ori blind forest into A tier at least moving forward. The art, music, platforming, level design and story is too good not to.

Sad times 😢
I’ll still be doing a lot with the tier list, so stay tuned 😎
No Hollow Knight? 🤔
It’s coming 😆. I just haven’t covered it on the channel yet
I dont like your opinions at all man, and how come Metroid prime isn't even on the list? nah youre so unserious
Metroid Prime isn't a metroidvania. It's a first person shooter.
Prime isn’t on the list yet because I haven’t covered it on my channel. I’ll get to it eventually.
