I've been looking into this as well. From what I gathered you can physically change the 7" panel to an 8", but the problem lies with the wiring. I believe there are extra wires to the 8", especially the screens with the illuminated trim. You'd probably also need to upgrade the HMI module, which you can buy for $1,000. I forgot the exact website, but the module does come with GPS navigation.
From what I gathered, our 7 inch radios doesn't have an HMI module that's with the 8 inch radios, which is located in the glove compartment. Changing the radios is possible, but without adding the HMI, which will require more wiring and $1,000 for the module itself...changing the radio screen will be pointless. If you do change the screens and add the module, you won't have the spectrum lighting on top of the 8 inch radio without more wiring. I want to upgrade my radio, but also want the spectrum lighting. It's possible, but you'd have to go thru the dash to add more wires and connectors. I saw a forum where a guy added more connectors, I believe splicing them with some connectors that were already in his SS. All V8 models, and the 2LT and 3LT Camaros(2019+) come with the 8 inch screens. www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=482871&page=2
The module for the 7 inch screen is built into the radio I wuz told by tech at dealership. 8 inch module is located in the passenger glove compartment.
I can verify that is bad information @terrion Carter the radio is certainly under/behind the passenger glove compartment in a non-amplified model (no center channel speaker, easiest identifier)
Were there any additional wires behind the panel? The 8" radio screen seems to be able to fit, but if you want a radio screen with the illumination around the top, it seems that it needs four additional wires.
Dynamite Custom Sound Solutions do you know if the speakers on the dashboard are connected to the door speakers or are they run separately from the head unit

Dynamite Custom Sound Solutions sorry but I'm one of those with the Camaro 1lt that doesn't have any amp I don't have it in the truck where all the other models have it
If it doesn't have an amp you need to intercept the factory wiring at the "radio" which is located at the passenger glove compartment mounted to a bracket. Two 7mm under the right side instrument panel cover and one under the glove compartment. Which is accessed after dropping the panel covering under the glovebox 4 7mm's around the perimeter swivel socket adapter necessary and feel with your hands. Yel, ylw blk. Grn, grn blk. Blue, brn blue. I don't remember the 4th set off hand. I did a 5 channel in a non-amplified Camaro today.
Btw the two 7mm's at the right side holding the radio bracket max out length wise when loosening them. As in... They will be touching the side of the metal as your unscrewing them. You need to push the plastic bracket with your other hand to flex it inward to gain that additional distance back. And be prepared to struggle like a mother trying to get that bracket dropped down. I cut the factory zip tie when I out it back up because the rigidness made it impossible to maneuver back into place. When you put the bracket back set the bottom screw first to make it easy on yourself.
John Cox hey do you know what color wire to tap into for a line output converter I been looking everywhere but can’t find anything, I’m trying to install an amp to the factory radio but I have the base system
